  1. It does seem late to start but its possible this is just a "serving" restaurant and no actually cooking takes place in the facility, meaning there would be much less work to complete. either way, I have little doubt that the construction schedule has been appropriately laid out and this will open on time.
  2. ok, reviving this from the dead with an update. I've booked a room for mid week, mid June, we'll be hitting the park on the 20th and 21st of June (Tuesday and Wednesday) then heading back to the gulf coast to finish our our vacation. I noticed that Tuesday is an extended magic time at the Kingdom, I've read that can lead to much more crowded days, true? Is it worth staying late? I imagine my wife, daughter (will be 5) and youngest (will be 1.5) wouldn't mind heading back to the hotel, perhaps my son would want to stick around. As an alternative, we may all go back and let the two older kids hit the pool while the youngest sleeps. Next questions: 1) it looks like I can't schedule any of my fastpass+ options until 60s days out. Any advice on how to best accomplish this? I've read about hitting the site 60days out at 7:00 am sharp and being quick. What is best to book? My wife, son and I would all love to do Space mountain, beyond that I'm not sure what my wife would love to do, other than enjoy time with the kids. I know my son would love to do splash mountain, as would I. I would love to do Big Thunder mountain, I'm sure my son would enjoy it as well, don't know if I can talk my daughter on to it or not. She'll ride the pumpkin coaster, but won't ride Woodstock express (she's been on it twice, she promises me she'll ride it again when she's five, we shall see in a few months) I don't think the infant can do any of those, but i remember taking out oldest on Pirates of the Carrabean when he was 1 as well as many other rides, so I know there is plenty to do for him. Then there is 7 drawfs mine ride, which I'm guessing my son, wife and I would all like to do, don't know about the daughter and assume the youngest can't. How best to split it up over 2 days? Can I book lets say 7 dwarfs mine ride one day with my son while my wife does the same thing the next day? what about later in the day, similar question with space mountain? I keep seeing that Peter Pan is a popular fast plus + ride, I'm not sure why, I remember riding it 7 years ago and not thinking much of it, other than its a classic. Since we are driving in from the gulf on Tuesday morning, I can't envision us getting there at rope drop, at least not predictably. 2nd question, my wife and daughter are scheduled to do the Bippity Boppity saloon on tuesday afternoon, immediately followed by dinner at the enchanted castle The cost for dinner is $126 and change for the 2 of them, tips and tax included. I haven't figured out if the meal plan is worth it. If I get the two of them the regular dining plan for our 2 days, it would run roughly $183 (I don't know if that includes tax). I believe they can use both "table service" credits, 1 from each day, at the royal table. Is that correct? Then they would have 1 additional quick service meal for each day, plus 2 snacks. Seems like it would make sense for them to do this, but maybe not. As far as my son and I, does it make much sense to quick service dining plan, can we do a different plan? Since my prior post, he's now dairy, gluten and red die free. I've read that Disney is very good at dealing with food allergies, but would his limits limit the use of a dining plan? Staying at the hotel, we can always pack our own snacks that we know are gluten free. Anyone with experience in this regard? any other helpful hints at this point are appreciated.
  3. I haven't ridden nearly the amount of coasters that many on this forum have, no where close, but of those that I have ridden, Renegade at Valley Fair ranks right at or near the top. Its hard to judge b/c I've ridden many coasters at Cedar Pointe multiple times, and all of the coasters at KI more times than I can count plus a handful of others, while I only got to ride Renegade once, but I'd certainly put it above any of their other coasters, including Wild Thing (their Hyper that seems to get the most hype) and on par with Banshee or The Beast (for different reasons) Perhaps it would slide down a bit on my limited list if I had the opportunity to ride it as often as I've been on The Beast, but it completely blew away my son and I a couple of years ago and put me squarely in the camp wanting a CGI at KI. From the double turn drop, thru the station wrap around (fly-by?) to everything in between it constantly felt like you were being tossed one way or another and completely fun. If this is anything close to what Renegade was I'm going to be extremely happy, 4 star rating or not.
  4. ^^^ Ki already has their launched coaster, actually they have 2 launched coasters and 3 launches. Seems like KI was ahead of CP on that mark.
  5. Why???? Perhaps because that would leave $45,000 additional to be spent elsewhere. Perhaps because they want to paint nostalgia for SOB Perhaps because it doesn't just save $45,000 additionally it saves money and time that would be needed for a que Perhaps because that is the location that makes the most sense, and reuse, reduce, recycle is their motto. There are other reasons for sure. IF KI were to install a B&M giga, or any other giga in that spot, I can only assume that there would have to be substantial rework done on "the platform" itself to allow for the different style coaster/track to be installed. I'll agree that $45,000 (assuming your number is correct, I have no clue) is peanuts in the total cost KI would have to spend to build a Giga, and $45,000 will not drive the use of the old SOB station one way or another, that will be driven by other, more important factors. SOB's station sits pretty high up, the foundation work and steel I'd have to imagine is pretty expensive. Anyhoo, w/ Mysty added to the lineup this season, I think that gives the park at a minimum 3 seasons, up to 5 seasons before their next major coaster install. I have felt for a long time that a CGI was the right addition to the park and was happy when it was announced. I now feel, based upon KI's current lineup, that a Giga is the right next install. That however could change with time. Should Vortex need to be removed, then a B&M floorless looper would make more sense to me. Should The Racer meet its demise, then something more family oriented makes more sense to me. I'd venture a guess that whomever is in charge of the long term vision for each park has a pretty good idea of what the next major installs should be, not only at KI, but across the CF chain. They are privy to what rides are near the end of their cycle, what B&M or other manufacturers have in their pipeline, what drive attendance, etc.. Would love to have that person's insight, just to know the thinking and process involved in the plan.
  6. The coasters that Valley Fair does have are pretty good. Renegade (GCI) was one of my favorite rides ever, I had no clue what I was in for; it blew my son and I away, we are both very much looking forward to Mystic Timbers; have been pining for a GCI since getting off that ride. I forget the name of their Hyper, but it had a great first drop, incredible floating air time over the second hill, a very mediocre middle and a great ending. A couple of other solid and varied rides. If they could add a good invert on the level of Banshee (I say clear out their dino exhibit and put it up front in that area) and I think it would be a great 1 day destination park. If I'm ever w/n a couple hours of Minneapolis again, I'm going just for Renegade.
  7. reminds me of my favorite carpentry joke "I cut the board twice and its still too short"
  8. that building is the old SOB station, its now a regular haunt during the falls. There is a ton of space around KI that things could be built on, much of in areas that would require a decent amount of site work, some of it an areas that are not quite as obvious to the casual eye. I can't recall anyone stating that they thought KI would build something on the scale of a Mister T where that thing is going; it just wasn't obvious how much space they had there. You also have to take into account that both buildings and rides eventually meet the end of their servicability, so things that seem pretty standard now, are moved or town down for capital improvements. You could fit a good sized coaster in and around the big brown box that once housed TRTR, even use the building for part of the ride similar to what CW did with their mountain. How much usefulness does Timberwolf still have? There is the rest of the land back behind Banshee, there is a decent sized area in and around Tower Gardens that could house some flats or a small wild mouse type coaster. There is the Dinosaurs Alive plot of land, the old action theater, etc... All kinds of areas that could be used from anything ranging from a small flat or two up to a huge Giga or expansive RMC. The last thing KI is worried about is space; they have far bigger things to worry about like keeping Vortex from sinking By they way, AE is "only" a kiddie ride to someone who thinks that a coaster has to be the tallest or have the most inversions to be fun. Its a vastly different experience than The Racers, The Beast, Diamondback, etc... Sure it is very accommodating to families and younger, less experienced riders, but that in no means you can't have fun on it. But what the heck, I have fun on The Beastie, just wish I could get my daughter to ride the thing the way her older brother did when he was 3/4.
  9. You forgot one of the founding principle rules of KICentral, though shall not mess with Adventure Express. I have never ridden an RMC, but I have trouble envisioning what an RMC conversion could do for AE's existing hybrid track (if one considers it a hybrid to begin with and not just a steel coaster that happens to sit on a wooden frame. AE is not rough in the classic wooden coaster sense. It has strong laterals; I would think an RMC wouldn't change that much at all. At that point, you are just spending money to say you are getting an RMC without taking advantage of all that RMC can give you. If/When KI gets an RMC, it should be a new ride from the ground up. Adventure Express works perfect as a solid family coaster that is the first step beyond FAAC for many kids.
  10. Since it was on GCI's website, I assume it was reviewed by his superior's prior to posting, though certainly not guaranteed. With that said, its not like he gave anything away. Of the small % of those who ride next year that truly care what is in the shed and understand any of the coaster science behind a ride, they would have already assumed with a good amount of confidence that the transfer table was going to be in or around that shed. Other than confirming what we already knew, he doesn't tell us anything much beyond they layman's description of how said design is detailed
  11. If you've never been, the burger, nor any of their food is terribly overpriced. The pricing at RHOFG is fairly comparable to what you would expect to pay at most casual sit down joints anywhere in the country. Considering the pricing of most of the other food in the park, its a pretty good value relatively speaking. I've never had much trouble getting a seat, but the service at times can be very slow.
  12. ^^^ Cedar Pointe, Kings Dominion, Carrowinds and Canada all have Giga's, it makes sense that Cedar Fair's other major seasonal property would get one as well, kind of like it made sense that KI got a B&M invert, like it makes sense (in my mind) that KI is getting a modern day woodie that is a little more family friendly in the intimidation department. I don't know exactly how Cedar Fair views the "competition" b/w KY & the Pointe, but the with the multi-day passes available for both parks, its obvious that they see a symbiotic relationship b/w the two, not only for people w/n the state of Ohio, but also for people traveling to Ohio for a summer vacation of amusement parks. So with that in mind, I wouldn't expect a winged coaster any time in the next few rotations as the Pointe's is still fairly fresh, especially for those traveling for a once in a decade adventure thru the 2 great Ohio amusement parks. I have no insider information, but I believe in my heart of hearts, that a Giga will be KI's next major installment. FWIW, I said multiple times on here that while I expected a Giga w/ the current installation, I really felt that a modern day GCI woodie was what the park needed. A coaster with no loops, not a ton of height, something that mom and dad won't be too hesitant to ride with their teenage son/daughter and something that their 8 year old can get on as well. The last 3 installations were a flyer, a Hyper and an invert with a ton of loops and inversions. I think Mystic Timbers plugs a huge gap in KI's lineup and will be a great addition. My experience on Renegade up at Valley Fair a couple of summers ago is what put me on that train of thought. so anyhoo, no rumors that I've heard from either good sources or bad, just what makes sense to me at the moment. As far as rumors, I've read that Valley Fair is working w/ the Army Corp of engineers to repurpose the back of their property to expand the water park and rides lineup. I think the water park expansion may be happening, but I'm not certain, I haven't checked on what they're getting for 2017 in quite some time. I believe that park could use a B&M invert, if and when they get rid of their dino-land, I think that area would make a great spot for an invert, especially if they can turn part of the back of the property into a parking lot/second entrance focused on the water park.
  13. thanks, just hoping that he's alright; not sick or anything. I don't know him personally, couldn't pick him out of a lineup, but miss his posts around here.
  14. Anyone know if Terpy is alive and kicking? He hasn't posted a thing since October, a pretty long stretch for one of our most active and insightful posters.
  15. not sure about phantom theater, I assume it used the same layout that boo blaster does today. I thought the prior boat ride used that portion of the building as well as the Boo blaster's portion. Somebody will confirm. Wasn't there a stage in there ate one point, perhaps still today hidden behind Carn-Evil?
  16. I saw deer just off the track on The Beast. Thanks to the fencing in that area there was no threat of them jumping on to the track, but it does give you a physiological thrill for a second when I first saw them and thinking "oh crap, please stay right where you are at"
  17. we were there several sundays ago, and used the fast pass. Lines were very short in the fast pass lane when I took my boy and a friend. next train on AE, next train on The Beast, short wait for Stunt Coaster, no wait for The Racers..... My son's friend is just over 48" tall, so we didn't try Diamondback or Banshee
  18. both? Either Both? Either? just asking because we are soon to be double those numbers.
  19. I would just settle for the guns all working properly.
  20. I've seen people fail to get on The Beast, mostly b/c they couldn't get the seat belts around them. If you share your size, you may get people w/ similar sizes to give you a rough idea of what to expect.
  21. yes, so it would never happen. Put aside the timing aspect of it, which would require the train to leave the station at precise intervals w/ no regard to who is seated (which is not going to happen), but that would also require either very slow dispatch times on Mystic Timbers, or losing the effect on a large majority of the rides. I don't know how often the train currently intervals, but lets say its every 10 minutes, which seems reasonable based upon my past experiences, though I'll admit I've never timed it. Each train on MT holds 24 passengers IIRC. That would allow for 6 trains, or 144 passengers per hour, which would lead to extremely long lines and very angry customers. Unlike NJFTP, these 2 rides may be located next to each other, but they are not going to going to cycle one ride based upon the other.
  22. They may make you turn off the necklaces, but they don't prevent 4 year old (my guess, but close enough) kids to walk thru the mazes. Spent the first half of Field of Screams in close proximity to a group that included the close to 4 year old, plus a kid that looked to be about 6 or 7. The scareactors, rightly toned things down when they saw them, but it ruined it for the people I was with. Once we were able to get a little bit ahead, we got some good attempts at scaring us. For the life of me, I can't figure out why a parent thought that was a good idea, the little girl was predictably crying at the end of the maze, her mother was predictably also asking why she was crying. Common sense ain't so common.
