  1. The most reasonable way to cut off the section of track would be to use a few sharp, splintered edged pieces of southern yellow pine from the Son of Beast structure and saw it off........ ...Oh wait.....
  2. Kings Island on Facebook: "The Beast celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. While the park had announced it was building the world's longest wooden roller coaster July 10, 1978, the name of the ride wasn't introduced until 67 days before it made its public debut April 14, 1979." 3. - "Lets hear it for the Mushrooms!" ....TheBEASTunchained, who is hoping that the frog's ending spiel is still a part of the routine.....
  4. Kings Island on Facebook : "On this date 35 years ago, construction workers that helped build The Beast and park employees were the first to test ride it. The ride was officially, and quite appropriately, “unchained” in a steady downpour on Friday, April 13, 1979, for hundreds of media representatives from around the U.S. and Great Britain." 5. Zumanjaro (Big Droppy Thing) will be an interesting ride, to say the least. In my opinion, this ride has made Kingda Ka less of a photogenic coaster and more of a "What in the world is that?" coaster. ....On a somewhat related note..... I see the ride experience on this ride being very, very similar to that of Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at SFMM.
  6. Camden Park on Facebook : "This week's #throwbackthursday photo predates the Big Dipper. Does anyone remember the New Sensation?" Photo : Camden Park via Facebook
  7. Kings Island on Facebook : "Thirty years ago America's first stand-up roller coaster, "King Cobra," was the new attraction for 1984 at Kings Island everyone was talking about." Photo : Don Helbig / Kings Island via Facebook
  8. Bring on the shade.......So they say...... (Image captured from Kings Island's Banshee Construction Cam)
  9. Track work taking place on The Bat this morning..... (Image captured from Kings Island's Bat Cam)
  10. Let there be light...... .......In Action Zone. (Image captured from Kings Island's Banshee Construction Cam)
  11. .....On a side note....... Some of the columns on The Bat are being "touched-up" a little bit right now..... (Image captured from Kings Island's Bat Cam)
  12. Diamondback testing on this date in 2009. 3/30/09 Lift Drop Splash
  13. @SplashinDan on Twitter : "Free pirate ship. Prefers outdoors. Well behaved." Photo : Dan Koch via Twitter I'm not really sure whether Dan is hinting that they want to sell the Pirate Ship or whether they are just glad to have it....?
  14. That was a very well put together article with some nice information. Thanks for sharing this with us Don.
  15. Kings Island on Facebook : "In this March 1981 photo, the original Bat roller coaster carries its first passengers during a test run. They were park employees who agreed the experience on the first suspended coaster in the world was unlike they had ever had before. The ride operated for parts of three seasons (1981-1983), giving 1.8 million rides." Photo : Don Helbig / Kings Island via Facebook
  16. Kings Island on Facebook : "In this January 1979 photo, construction of the world's longest wooden roller coaster, "The Beast," was nearing completion. Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, The Beast continues to rank among the top wooden roller coasters in the world in annual industry and enthusiast polls." 17. Banshee, flying through the first drop....... (Image captured from Kings Island's Banshee Construction Cam)
  18. A new rail is being installed on The Bat this morning..... (Image captured from Kings Island's Bat Cam)
  19. @KIGMGREG on Twitter : This tweet can be found here. ....So any suggestions KIC?
  20. Just enough daylight to be able to see the new lights installed around the Banshee station / plaza area...... (Image captured from Kings Island's Banshee Construction Cam) It also looks as if something was installed / planted in the ground between Slingshot and Banshee......Trees?
  21. I was really looking forward to raising this money for a good cause, and also getting night-rides in on Banshee, but apparently I'm not very good at fundraising.
  22. I believe that the painting of Xtreme Skyflyer was finished today.....
  23. Kentucky Kingdom on Facebook : "With the arrival of Spring, we thought it was only fitting that we show off the progress that's been made on the Pounce and Bounce!" Photo : Kentucky Kingdom via Facebook ....On a side note..... I honestly have to say that the name of the ride pictured above, Pounce and Bounce, is probably one of the worst names I have heard for a children's ride in a long time. It sounds more like the name of something a toddler would use to play in before learning to walk.
