I hope the train gets a facelift- I think The Twelve Days of Christmas has overstayed its welcome.

Because if Home Depot can have Christmas items for sale in October, surely we can talk about Winterfest.

Knotts Berry Farm Discussion
SonofBaconator replied to YoungStud's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Knott’s is an interesting park to look at. They have a lot of great themed attractions that are on par with Disney and Universal but then you also have great thrill attractions that surpass what you’d expect from a land locked amusement park. As the years go on and the industry changes, I wonder how their business model will evolve. Will they add a hyper or some other high thrill attraction to bring in more thrill seekers? Will they add more themed attractions to try and be a more affordable alternative to Disney/ Universal? Will it be a mixture of both? -
I feel like if you communicate your issue with the park, they would throw you a bone if it’s a required medication. I don’t legally think they can deny people to have their medication handy but maybe there’s a loophole.

New B&M coming to BGT
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I’m not saying there’s direct correlation but Brightline (Florida’s newest passenger service from Miami) expanded to Orlando with plans to expand to Tampa, so it’s possible that SEAS sees a potential opportunity there but I digress. With SEAS trying to build a new identity, I could see them continue to want to invest in parks- especially the ones in tourist heavy Florida. -
New B&M coming to BGT
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
What surprises me is that Williamsburg hasn’t gotten a B&M since ‘07 as they’re direct competitors with Kings Dominion. I wonder why Sea World Entertainment didn’t throw them a wing coaster sometime during the 2010s. -
This. Call me biased but in terms of ride associates- everyone should be trained on the train so they don’t have to cut the passenger cars down to 3 like they’ve had to do on some days. I think with regards to train ops, something that happened recently affected it in a negative way: Mystic Timbers. The old White Water Canyon path went over the train tracks but now it had to be rerouted to accommodate the coaster. The problem is, now the pathway is on level ground so there has to be someone at the gate. That might not be a big issue but that’s one less person who could been used to monitor the back part of the train and allow for 6 car ops.

No but without regional guests- their attendance is subject to tank. Imagine if you took Cleveland and Toledo metro guests out of their attendance numbers….yikes. I always considered CP to be somewhere in between a destination and a regional park- much like KI. You have your regional guests who come, then you have your guests who live within a 2-3 hour radius, then you have your travelers.

New B&M coming to BGT

Plus it would be pretty difficult to incorporate onboard onto a train that’s already swaying -

New B&M coming to BGT

They could be referring to the layout as it does look like banks a lot to the left and right. -
I personally don’t think that was a smart decision. The Kinzel era had a lot of similar projects added around the same time: Intimidators, WindSeekers, Dinosaurs Alives.
-
I think you can predict who’s getting what based off of geographical location. KI and CP aren’t going to get big projects the game season, same with CP/CWL, CWS/ KD, KD/ DP, or KBF/CGA

But what about the people who just want to enjoy the night rides?

I used pixlr and just picked random colors

What are some takeaways you all have from this season (regular, fall, and winter when it comes time)?
-
I’m gonna break each option down then say what I voted for: Vekoma Launch- we did start working with Vekoma again so it’s possible that KI would be interested in some of their bigger products. CP did this with Zamperla afterall. Mack Extreme Spinner- this would be something truly unique to KI and would keep the park competitive with Herschend (not sure Dollywood would add an extreme spinner if we got one). The only downside is that spinners aren’t for everyone. B&M Surf- this is what I personally want to replace Invertigo and Congo Falls given their close proximity to King Cobra (the park’s original standup.) While I wouldn’t mind seeing a Surf replace Vortex, I feel like replacing one replace Invertigo and Congo would kill 3 birds with one stone. Zamperla multi launch- this, like Vekoma, is a possibility considering they’ve already done two coaster projects for the chain already. I’d think CF would want us to trial Vekoma since CP is trialing Zamperla. Mack multi launch- I hear that Copperhead Strike underperformed at Carowinds. Of all the launched coasters on this list, the traditional Mack multi launch seems somewhat inferior by comparison. B&M dive- arguably the safest option on this list. CF has bought 3 of them in the past 8 years with them being GP pleasers. Ground up rmc- arguably not the safest option on this list. CF worked with RMC on 3 projects in one season and from rumors circulating in the community, the relationship hasn’t been great. Personally I think a ground up RMC would upset the balance of ridership at this current time but that’s just me. In terms of what should be the park’s next coaster- I think a high capacity Vekoma multi launch would be great. With how KI fits in the CF chain however, I know that they don’t like to take risks so it wouldn’t surprise me if we got something from Mack or B&M.

Well that does promote brand consistency. How can you claim to be family friendly when you host scary events?
-
So here’s my take: When it comes to Haunts, KI actually competes with some pretty big names like Dent, USS Nightmare, Land of Illusion, etc. These attractions are only open for a few weeks (Land of Illusion is a different story) so they pull out all the stops- if you want a good scare, check those out. Truth be told, there aren’t a lot of family friendly Halloween events to do in Greater Cincinnati at night; I think this is where KI comes in. If they can focus more on their night rides and atmosphere while offering the haunts as a side dish, they’re able to bring in a wider range of people. Sure this will upset those who enjoy a good scare, but as mentioned previously- you’re more than likely to go to actual haunted houses if that’s your thing. Knott’s kind of has the opposite problem. While I’m sure there are plenty of haunted houses in the LA area, their target market isn’t families. If you want a family friendly Halloween event to do at night, you’re going to Disneyland/California Adventure. When it comes to haunted parks, Knott’s has to compete with Universal so they’re going to pull out all the stops to stay competitive- KI has no amusement parks to compete with when it comes to fall events in general. TL;DR: Cincinnati has a competitive haunted house market but not a competitive family friendly Halloween market so they’re going to opt for the market they don’t have to put as much effort into attracting.
