What new attraction would make the best sense for KI?
SonofBaconator replied to dropdasher's topic in Coming Attractions
It’s not a far fetched assumption though: https://www.incrediblecoasters.com/SteelVengeancePhotos.html https://coasterforce.com/iron-gwazi-opens-at-busch-gardens-tampa/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zadra_(roller_coaster) Upon my internship I saw a piece of wood dangling from SV and reported it. Carpentry came out and stated that was not integral to the ride’s structure and was just left over wood that was kept on from MS. They still shut the ride down and drilled the wood back in place but it didn’t seem like an urgent issue but likely would’ve looked odd to anyone who saw a piece of wood dangling. Again this was just a conversation I had so take it how you will. -

I’m not discounting the potential maintenance issues but you also have to look at 2018. Cedar Point ordered a hybrid with new trains, a first of its kind hybrid hyper with new trains and a first of its kind single rail. Not only that, but having interned there myself, I talked to carpentry and they said that a lot of the original Mean Streak structure was not removed when they converted the ride to Steve Vengeance. Of course I don’t have any source to back up my claim but if you want evidence that it’s accurate, compare Steel Vengeance to Iron Gwazi or Zadra where they are all about the same in height but have significantly different support styles. I’m not discounting the issues that the chain encountered with RMC, but I often remind myself what they asked RMC to do in one season; new technology across three of their parks is a pretty tall order. -

After reviewing how much RMC charges for their coasters, it does somewhat shock me that we don’t see more of them in the Cedar Fair chain. They don’t all have to be on par with Steel Vengance but the one at Funspot in GA cost $13,000,000 and it’s 3,400ft of track. Heck Zara cost $2,000,000 more than that and it tops 200ft in height and is only about 1,000ft longer. -
I’ve thought of that as well. If the pandemic didn’t hit, I’m sure the timeline would’ve been 2024 considering that we lost two coasters and gained one from 2018-2020. On top of the pandemic, I’m sure the Dragster incident changed a lot of things up. Cedar Point can’t really afford to have a ride that size SBNO for multiple seasons with how heavily they rely on destination travelers. We can afford to have a 5 year gap in our coaster lineup- we did it before from 2009-2014. In theory having two Ohio coasters installed in back to back seasons could prove beneficial. The rebranded TTD is going to be a massive project so what we get won’t be anything of that magnitude, however, having two new additions within a year a part of one another on opposite sides of the state might encourage more travel from people in neutral areas.

Ideas for better Chills?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think a daytime parade similar to HalloWeekends would be cool. I also thought using the waterpark was a good way to spread guests out but I understand why it was short lived. -
You’re right, I mixed up the years.
-
My favorite timeline was 2017-2020: 2017: New coaster 2018: General park improvements 2019: Family ride + general park improvements 2020: New Coaster If at least one or two seasons between large additions is geared towards general improvements around the property, I would be happy.

The Amusement Park Railroad Thread
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Next to former Carowinds #2, #17 probably has had the most cosmetic changes of any Crown to date. https://KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/32769-the-amusement-park-railroad-thread/&do=findComment&comment=802165 -
I hear Copperhead Strike didn’t meet expectations but I could be wrong. Years ago it was easier to predict what some of the larger parks would get but now I’m not sure what the future holds for our park when it comes to large scale coasters. During speculations, don’t think people were screaming “INVERT” in 2013 or “GCI” in 2016. Of course people were screaming “GIGA” in 2019 because it was somewhat obvious and fans had been wanting it for years. Now we’re back in the times where, like 2013 and 2016, we don’t really know what we’re getting (unless we peak at the Mason permits.)
-
I agree. I hope that who ever’s next in line looks at what he’s done and carries on that tradition of bringing back and preserving the park’s history while cooking up fun projects for the future.

And then there could be someone who has gone multiple times this season and been able to ride it every time without issue. I just looked at the webcams and it seems to be running fine. I’ve gone to KI on a couple of occasions where Invertigo was down, but when I would be driving down on Kings Island drive, I would see it full of people operating like normal. Just because things happen when you’re there, doesn’t mean that’s the norm.

I don’t think there’s a person out there who doesn’t think it could be better if it was closer to 6,000ft. With the cost of steel going up, I’m sure it would’ve cost a whole lot more to even squeeze in one or two more elements before the final break run. I’m happy with what we got but I always wish the ride duration was a tad longer.

Personally, I would like to see one brought back and placed elsewhere. Maybe painted and with a light package and located somewhere around BLSC since there’s ample amounts of space. Edit: Wow people really don’t miss Slingshot

Adventure Port Officially Opens This Weekend
SonofBaconator replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I like that they fenced things off to the left of the que and spruced up the lawn between the barrels and Banshee. The landscaping seems to improve with every season as well. Compare what that area used to look like before and after Slingshot’s removal and you can see how much things have improved: -
Yes, it’s an industry wide thing at the moment. If everything opened on time with exception to us, I’d understand the criticisms. However, like I said earlier, this seems to be an industry wide issue this year.

I love when our park gets something new and people find things to complain about

What exactly would be a missed opportunity?
-
I don’t know the answer to this question but I do think some slides should be retired. I posted this on another thread but I think Pinapple Pipeline and Tropical Twister should be removed or at the very least relocated. They could allocate the lifeguards to other water attractions and use that area to redo the train station so people aren’t being funneled through the way they currently are.
-
The main difference is- the royal fountains can be viewed from all around International Street; the same can somewhat be said for the pond in Adventure Port. The old Beast water feature could only really be seen by people who are waiting in line for the ride. That’s a lot of money spent on mosquito control, plumbing, electricity, and etc that could be allocated elsewhere.
-
I always thought Fastlane was a genius concept because it’s almost pure profit with the only reoccurring expenses being the physical printing of the tickets. If someone wants to spend money to avoid waiting, why stop them?
-
There’s also a gradient along that stretch of track. I’m not sure where it exactly levels out but I know they open the throttle up when they get towards Mystic Timbers’ turnaround where the back of the barn is. I propose relocating/removing Pineapple Pipeline and Tropical Twister: This would free up space for passengers where an actual shade structure could be built, all while keeping the station closer to the waterpark entrance.

Each owner has contributed a coaster to the kids area of the park except for Cedar Fair. Do you think we’ll see a new kids/family coaster come to Planet Snoopy and if so what kind? I don’t think it’ll happen unless they demolish Peanuts Playhouse and utilize that whole space but even I’m not sure they’d want to have something built right next to Picnic Grove where they host a lot of events. Thoughts? (I said 4th/5th because some people consider Surf Dog a coaster while others do not)

What is the most popular ride at Kings Island?
SonofBaconator replied to italianchef's topic in Kings Island
@Tr0y I don’t think the criticism is necessary. Overall I think people prefer “less speedy” rides. From lift hill to hitting the break run, Diamondback gives about 20 seconds of more ride time vs Orion: Orion is a great ride and I’m happy we have it. Many enthusiasts consider Diamondback to be one of the best if not the best hyper coasters of all time so it doesn’t surprise me that people make that their preferred coaster. -
If you had the capital to invest in Mason
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
I had time to think about this. I’d try to invest into renovation the golf course across I-71 to with the intent to host a pga tournament of some kind. There’s a tournament currently in being played in Columbus so having one in the neighboring region shouldn’t be out of the question.
