  1. Let's compare and contrast how Asia is dealing with it versus USA... My friend lives in China and has been keeping me up to date and sending photos and links along the way. So let's compare how China and USA are dealing with it. They took the stay home seriously. This is one of their downtown areas during the shutdown. That road normally looks like LA traffic... Compare this picture to any of our cities...or even the roads to your local Kroger...or the local Milford kid on spring break with his famous "If I get Corona" quote... During their lockdown in Wuhan 9millon people were not allowed out of their home and all transportation stopped and all shops were closed even the supermarket. Government installed cameras in front of their houses and have security people roaming 24hours/day every day. Many of China's houses are not like the US, most of them are like an apartment- people that have been to HONGKONG or Singapore will know this very well. You are required to have an app and submit all your data to this app that is tied to your ID card, where you live, where are you have been, etc. When you go into any store have to scan this to show them the details. In China there is no private data. Hundreds of people have been put into prison because of not accepting the isolation. The US would never do this. People claim big brother and what not, but the reality is, if you have a mobile device, you are already being tracked…. They all wear face masks in public. To go anywhere you need to go thru multiple checkpoints. Those people with arrows pointed to them are not police, they are temperature takers. Once you get past those checkpoints, you will come across thermal cameras at individual stores that will alarm if someone has a high body temperature: They are constantly bleaching everything, either people dressed in full hazmat gear, or with machines like this...has anyone seen that done in the USA.... Satellite imaging over China has shown a drastic decrease in air pollution during the shutdown...where are LA comparable images....they don't exist... When it is all said and done, our numbers are going to far exceed any other country...we are days from just Ohio exceeding the total number infected in all of Japan...and our country death's are halfway to the total number infected in Japan...wonder why.... The last numbers I saw was that based on other needs in the hospitals due to flu and cancer, etc., that unchecked, the death rate could exceed 15 million due to not being able to be treated due to lack of hospital beds and equipment...
  2. My Kroger is wiped out in the first hour. It is ridiculous how selfish and dumb people are...
  3. When are people going to realize this isn't a hurricane that could physically destroy the water plant or grocery store - in those situations you have to stock up in the event you physically cannot leave your house... There is no need to stock up on bottled water - the water plants will continue to run and operate. Grocery stores will continue to remain open. There is no reason for someone's grocery habits (frequency going, amount purchasing, etc.) to significantly change because of this. You can still get take out or delivery of your favorite restaurant... And it is sad that these stores have now had to make a no return policy for all the idiots that bought all this stuff and now realize they either have to room or that yes the stores will remain open...and they really don't like Chef boyardee and spam and whatever else they bought in bulk that was "non-perishable"... When this is all over, people are going to have cases of Chef boyardee that they will pitch because they panicked and bought it by the caseload and didn't eat one can...The amount of food that will be wasted because of people hoarding and panicking will be astronomical...
  4. Is it because they won't help us or is it because there are not enough and by saying they aren't needed minimizes the panic and chaos that would occur as people realize that there aren't enough....
  5. A FEW of the parks are starting to open with heavy restrictions such as face masks, temperature checks, not all areas opened, etc. Tokyo Disneyland, DisneySea, and Universal remain closed... Japan and China encouraged the entire population to wear face masks as they dealt with this virus, but the use of face masks are shunned in the US....will be interesting (in a bad way so far) to see how we track compared to them ... It is understandable that China leads the number of cases given that is where it started and the size of their population. Japan took quick action and is a fraction of cases: As of today (and this isn't the order just the numbers of these countries): Country Population Number confirmed cases China 1.4 Billion 81,093 USA 330 Million 42,443 Japan 127 Million 1,128 Based on total confirmed cases, China is 1st, Italy is 2nd at 63,927, USA is 3rd (but projected to surpass Italy in a few days), and then Japan is 25th on the list...
  6. Possible sign to come.... McDonald's is closing their UK and Ireland locations... https://mobile.twitter.com/McDonaldsUK/status/1241824519280566274?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1241856206437675009&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.yahoo.com%2Fcoronavirus-covid-19-news-and-live-updates-120246923.html
  7. The pictures looked to me like some filtering or adjustment or something was done by the camera. I believe it was a high end camera, so maybe HDR or some other algorithm on the camera made the color punchy with a grey cloudy background?
  8. Anyone still think KI and CP will be opening mid-May??? Let's just assume the government gives the "all-clear" which allows a mid-May opening and then we get a second wave like China is starting to see - we will then go thru this cycle again, shutting the park down after only a few weeks of being open or not at all and then repeat this cycle for another two-three months...now we are into August or later... Let's all hope people do their part and some of these promising medicines have an impact sooner rather than later...
  9. Current requirements page: http://jfs.ohio.gov/ouio/CoronavirusAndUI.stm
  10. Basically, if an employer can comply with all the requirements, you can remain open...now obviously some businesses are easier sectors to comply with than others...and some would be impossible to comply with so they have to close...
  11. Ohio temporarily eliminated the sit out one week waiting period and removed a lot of other requirements such as proving you are looking for a new job (that will probably soon be put back in due to the Kroger's and Amazon's of the world making a request for additional employees directly to the Governor...)
  12. With reduced staff to operate a drive thru or delivery/carryout operations only, there is enough room to maintain the requirements set forth in the order. Now whether all restaurants comply is another issue... One of my neighbors works at Pizza Hut and they have two inside employees - one person making all the food in the back and one up front to address the carry-out and delivery people that remain outside... Another neighbor works at Wendy's and they have 3 employees - one employee working on the opposite side of the double-sided griddle as the other side would be too close to the fries person and then the drive thru person. A lot of companies have gone to sealing of take out bags and other measures to try to minimize contamination packaging. The CDC recommendation is to take it home and remove all food from its packaging onto plates at home to minimize this risk.. Yeah many are requesting no cash payments and use apps to pay for to further minimize contact.
  13. Wrong...other states and/or cities have shut down dine-in eating as Ohio has, which was last Sunday, but carryout and drive thru and delivery are still acceptable in the lockdown states (at least for now)... https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/21/coronavirus-lockdown-orders-shelter-place-stay-home-state-list/2891193001/ https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-state-by-state-guide-to-coronavirus-lockdowns-11584749351 https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/03/19/coronavirus-reader-questions-death-age-flu-symptoms-food-timeline/2863776001/ https://www.thedailybeast.com/this-is-what-a-coronavirus-covid-19-lockdown-means-in-new-york-california-washington-and-other-states
  14. A LOT of people that is how they get their food....some people simply don't cook and almost every meal is from a restaurant... And with all the hoarding going on this is the only way some can get food now...
  15. A study shows 3 in 5 people are of this "I'm not letting it stop me" attitude and all that will do is ensure that nothing opens for a long time...and the longer this goes on the more likely we will see martial law enacted...
  16. Ohio Governor just issued a "stay at home" or shutdown Order in effect Monday night until April 6th at least...essential businesses (grocery, fuel, hospitals, food carryout, etc) still open and are looking for additional employees... On Thursday day-care goes to less than 6 kids per room and needs a pandemic license to operate until April 30th... Can go outside and take a walk and go to parks but playgrounds are closed...
  17. History lesson time LOL: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-pacific-16517764 Hong Kong is a territory of China, similar to how the United States has territories that are not officially states (or cities) to the USA. Washington, D.C. would be one of them. In addition, the United States has five major U.S. territories: American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each such territory is partially self-governing that exists under the authority of the U.S. government. The United States also has many uninhabited territories as well... Residents of D.C. can vote for US presidents, but the remaining territories cannot.
  18. and now China is getting the second wave... https://www.yahoo.com/news/hong-kong-records-biggest-rise-110818953.html
  19. Let's face it, people are gonna complain about making them whole no matter what CF does. It is especially easy to complain sitting behind a computer... I think the ones that potentially get hurt the most are the platinum pass holders, especially if their planned visits to other parks were over spring break. Granted for those in Ohio, you could probably get a few visits in to the park on the other side of the state (depending where you are located) to make it worth it, but I suspect there will be many that have a platinum pass this year and only now make it to one park. But I am sure there are gold pass holders that can make the argument and have a past history to prove that they got their value in April and May and their work prevents them from visiting other times of the year. In fact, I know some in that situation. We really don't know what is coming ahead. What if travel restrictions occur across state lines, or the Canadian border? I could definitely see a situation where a park is open but travel restrictions prevent a pass holder from getting there. I do agree that at the end of the day the pass and meal plans are a tremendous value and I have stated on this forum before that I would be in favor of increased prices if it would eliminate the Fast Lane and allow for smaller crowds and better overall experience while allowing CF to make as much money as they would with the current model of lower prices and higher attendance numbers. I am sure I am in the minority in that statement...But the October crowds at KI and CP diminish the value of the pass in my opinion. But these are small potato's in the big scheme of things...
  20. I feel for you! It is very easy to blame someone or something else. The fact of the matter is nobody really knows for sure. Saw a recent study that said kids were 67% more likely to develop autism if their grandmother was a smoker...something along the lines of it being due to some sort of epigenetic modification that the grandmother passes on to the mother when she’s pregnant. Every person I know that is on the spectrum either has parents that smoke or their grandmother did...so let's see if this forum has any outliers, which it will because almost nothing is 100%... Jenny McCarthy, probably credited with the whole anti-vax movement (whether true or not I don't know), but certainly very vocal about it is you guessed it...a smoker....but she will not entertain that could be the reason why her child has autism. Some of my friends that are smokers are quick to blame their child's autism on anything but their own habit... It could be due to anything - smoking, drinking, chemicals in the ink in tattoos that get into the bloodstream, environmental factors, what the mother ate while pregnant...the list goes on and on and you can probably find a study somewhere that would substantiate your viewpoint...and many of these studies are also not done scientifically, which then further erodes and propagates wrong information...
  21. What does she think now? Or hasn't she put it together that this is what happens?
  22. Whether you like him or not, he certainly does try to help when there is an issue that captures the world... https://cleantechnica.com/2020/03/21/elon-musk-should-have-1000-ventilators-next-week-250k-n95-masks-for-hospitals-tomorrow-cleantechnica-exclusive/
  23. Now THAT I agree with! And with that your thought process, it should be more than one ride! Exchanging say 10 warm weather and all rides running days with 10 cold-weather days with no major rides running isn't an even trade... I am actually shocked that they made such as statement to begin with - way too many variables beyond their control... I get that they had to make a statement, but they could have left it vague at this point like the second part of the announcement... Based on latest projections (that get worse every day), I do not see them opening mid-May. On Friday, Ohio had 169 confirmed cases when KI and CP announced this delay of opening day...and today jumped to 247. Now without getting into the whole "but they don't have enough tests" and political comments, and given most colleges in Ohio cancelled the rest of the semester before we even had 5 confirmed cases, I do not see much opening until we are well on the decline of new daily cases. At what number of new cases do we say "it is now safe to go back to normal activities"? Is it 5 days of no new cases? What if we go 5 days of no new cases and then go 3 days with new cases increasing 10% daily, do we start this cycle over? So what happens if mid-May gets pushed to mid-June or mid-July, or even longer based on this timeline? At some point, CF will not be able to add new days to make up what is lost unless they simply scratch the whole season and say 2020 passes are good for 2021. I wonder how many people realize what we are experiencing would be our new normal without vaccines...
  24. Plus Winterfest is basically a bonus season as reflected in prices because the season pass prices and meal and drink plan prices did not go up exponentially as a result of adding Winterfest... But it is amazing how many "enthusiasts" one does see at Winterfest trying to add to their ride counts...and how many first-world complaints KI gets about not having more coasters open...
  25. The Ohio Governor gave a stern warning yesterday and asked for businesses to do the right thing or he will shut the state down...you can thank places like this when it happens....https://local12.com/news/local/laser-tag-in-hillsboro-refuses-to-close-its-doors-cincinnati
