  1. I would love to see them preserve the murals up on top when they finally complete the rehab project
  2. I haven't been on The Beast in a couple of weeks, but the clearing around the drop into the ravine probably has to do with the dying ash trees.Edit- Beaten
  3. Wouldn't RFYLCB already be gone if it were leaving for expansion, or at least have it's removal announced by now?
  4. Paramount removed La Patisserie Français from the French chateau building and put in Starbucks, which is now Yogurt Plus. Paramount and CBS had their share in removing the theming, Cedar Fair, under Dick Kinzel, finished the job. One thing I noticed on one visit was that in the Festhaus, on the flat screen menu boards at LaRosa's, they have a German flag background. Not something that's incredibly noticeable, but a small acknowledgement to the German theming that once was.
  5. My dad and his family were right across Lake Como the night Coney closed, September 6th, 1971. My grandparents knew that was the final day of the parks operation and decided to watch the final Rozzi fireworks show. My father was introduced to roller coasters after riding the Shooting Star. My mother also went to Coney as a child. She never was a ride person, and still isn't (She rode The Lost River during one visit and she tells me how, to this day, she doesn't know how she built up the courage to ride it.), but one day she decided to ride the Teddy Bear in the Land of Oz all day. She has memories of riding the Tumble Bug and the Cuddle Up at both Coney, and at Kings Island in the early years. My mother still loves going to Coney Island because it brings back older memories of her childhood and because it is a quiet, peaceful environment.
  6. Is this a standard procedure for wooden coaster construction?
  7. I like the name "Lumbercat," a mix of Lumberjack and Splintercat.
  8. I've heard them play "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots on International Street, and it was already not one of my favorites the first time I heard it on the radio in my car. I was sitting and eating along side the fountains on my day off and tried listening to appropriate music for the area on my phone, such as "First Introduction/ The Winton Flyer" from The Reivers by John Williams, "Hoedown" by Aaron Copland, and "Italia Mia" by Mantovani and his Orchestra. However I couldn't hear, even with my volume up all the way, because of how loud the loudspeakers were blaring the music. I'm not particularly pleased with the soundtrack choice they play throughout the park.
  9. Woodstock Express- The Beastie Invertigo- Face/Off Congo Falls- Amazon Falls Race For Your Life Charlie Brown- Kings Mill Log Flume Drop Tower- Drop Zone/Demon Drop Backlot Stunt Coaster- The Italian Job: Stunt Track
  10. Most likely thats where they shoot the fireworks from. Aren't the fireworks shot by The Beast? This is nowhere near there. If they were here The Beast wouldn't have to close each night Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk Actually the fireworks are shot behind the Blue Racer's turnaround. See area circled on image below:(Picture of Beast/Racer locations) Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk Wow ummm in 30 years of life, 20 or so years of riding The Beast I never once realized how close it is to The Racer and Action Theater.... No wonder there isn't much room to expand behind the theater, there is a coaster in the way... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Looking to the lower left from The Beast in that image, I'm surprised how close that neighborhood is to the coaster which seems so secluded.
  11. I think I have two names for the new coaster depending on what ride it'll be: Good sized GCI/Rocky Mountain woodie: "Psycho Beast" Kiddie Coaster sized GCI: "Beastie"
  12. Moonshine running themed coaster?Grit your teeth, Bear the load Enjoy your ride...
  13. Unless, of course, they want to expand X-Base, as someone mentioned before. It still gets pretty good lines, I don't know much about Thunder Road's popularity to be honest, but from what I've seen, The Racer seems good ridership wise.
  14. Thunder Road was painted similarly to The Racer and lost it's paint over the years, which compromised the structural integrity of the wood, which is why they had to rebuild sections of it numerous times. Thunder Road didn't give that many riders, possibly because it was much more shrouded by trees than The Racer and Rebel Yell. The Racer still gets large lines even when both sides are running, particularly during the midday/ early afternoon hours, and even gave more rides than The Beast during the 2015 season. At an ACE event last year, Don stated that The Racer is structurally sound when confronted with the question of whether or not the decision to close Thunder Road would affect Kings Island. There were other factors that plagued Thunder Road's existence. As long as The Racer gets a lot of publicity from the PR department, and as long as we all ride it, then The Racer should be okay.
  15. Has it been confirmed that the plans filed by the city of Mason that were leaked online were phony?
  16. Park was busy today. I had to be sent to Coconut Cove in Soak City to help serve food.
  17. I'm starting to think it may be from Rocky Mountain judging by a glimpse at the blueprints. In some areas of the ride sketch, you can see what looks to be wooden support beams that are angled to hold the structure up. The area I didn't notice any were on the short piece of straight track before what we assume is the first drop. Usually a lift hill would have the angled structural wood beams, like The Beast and The Racer, but we don't see that. This could possibly be a launch like on Lightning Rod. If what you said is true, then there might be a lead in the possibility of Rocky Mountain Construction being part of Project 2017. There isn't any way of knowing now, as the sketch is rough and approximate and not exact.
  18. Maybe I'm completely missing your meaning here, but why would "pretty big lines" on a Wednesday make you worried/nervous? Wouldn't that mean the rides are popular? Isn't that a good thing? I remember lines for The Beast stretching well into the park, nobody was worried about the ride, then. edit: speaking of, anybody know of (or have a link to) a pic of the paws painted on the ground for that line? I was a tad nervous about what this new coaster might mean for the popularity of The Racer and The Beast in the future. I figured that the long lines I saw yesterday was reassuring, which is why I called myself a Nervous Nelly, because their future popularity may not be a problem. Never said long lines worried me, I usually breathe a sigh of relief.I'm also sure it'll be a good ride when built.
  19. I'm kind of worried about our current wooden coasters. I was there yesterday around 2pm and saw that both The Racer and The Beast had pretty big lines (Beast Containment Area 1 was partially opened up and the turn gates in The Racer's queue house had to be opened up for line flow, with both sides operating), so maybe I'm just being a Nervous Nelly about all of this as I'm an extremely nostalgic, wooden coaster loving person.
  20. My brother was surprised to see the lights not working and the water features not dancing. Could they be running it down to make way for the fountain work that Matt Ouimet promised?
  21. I heard it getting off of The Racer last season.
  22. That's disappointing. The only coaster from Maurer that I've been on was Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Orlando Resort and it was pretty fun. I guess the demand wasn't there for their rides.
  23. It was probably related to the Food Truck Festival today. I joked with my friends about it being for midget wrestling like at Haunt.
  24. Someone mentioned the possibility of this being a Rocky Mountain Construction coaster because of tight turns and a possible inversion. Didn't GCI say that they too can go upside down, because we already know they can to overbanked curves? Doesn't Rocky Mountain usually have a list of what projects they have in what state/country? Last year they confirmed projects in Tennessee (Lightning Rod at Dollywood), Kentucky (Kentucky Kingdom), and California (Joker at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). With that list, we may have a better idea of what is happening in Rivertown and to Mean Streak.
  25. I have a random question. Are the nightly fireworks still done by Rozzi or are they done by Zambelli out of Pittsburgh like at Cedar Point?
