CF Q1FY19 Conf Call (Loyalty Program)
Kenban replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Reading the transcript right now but this line just jumped out at me. That was stated by the CEO. If that is an accurate number and not a transcription error, the estimates on attendance at the Cedar Fair parks from 3rd parties are completely wrong. I have long been told by insiders the numbers from TEA are garbage but its nice getting some proof. Because that puts their estimates off by more then 1.5 million. -
Using the mid point between L13L and L13R then measuring the distance from that location to LS3L you get 351 feet. Using a right triangle with a 40 degree angle you get a height of 295 feet. I might be a little off on the location of the peak because those supports are slanted but they also do not directly support the top. Its a giga but not by a lot. I remember a rumor I have heard multiple times over the years. That Banshee was a last minute design, the original coaster was cancelled and instead of the Giga we were going to get in 2014, we got an Invert that lacks polish. Why? Because Intimidator did better at Carowinds then expected, so they pushed forward plans and built Fury 325 in 2015. It feels like Cedar Fair is now revisiting the giga for Kings Island and is building Leviathan 2.0 instead of Fury 2.0. Although it also feels like it was designed to a budget which was just not quite large enough. The coaster is following a well defined ridge for the lift hill and drop, seems strange to turn it around in the current location when the ridge extends another 300 to 400 feet. But either way this is not going to break many or any records. It still might be a great design, because it is hard to tell from overhead how a layout really feels.

If you look in the middle of your image you can see the angle of the connection plate is already labeled. We just need a higher resolution copy of the image so we can actually read it.
-
Maybe, look to the right a little bit under partial foundation plan. There it says 1 inch is equal to 20 feet. If that 40 foot scale was only 2 inches long I think the page would have been tiny. Like I said I think there is something wrong here. This is why I want a copy of the coordinates page with enough resolution to actually read it. But either this is not a giga or 100% there are mistakes on the plans.

The rule has always been the documents in question have to be public records. Since it sounds like they are not something available from the city then a moderator will remove them and they are not allowed. Likely they will end up on another forum, reddit, or youtube and we will be able to discuss them. But the pictures themselves cannot be posted here.

That is not what my math says. I am measuring from LS1 to a point between that triangular footer and L13L. Comparing that to the scale I cannot get anywhere near long enough for a giga unless the lift is very steep. The lift layout looks similar to Fury although transfer track is before the station and not after it.
-
Does someone have a higher res version of the foundation coordinates? I am looking at the layout and the scale seems wrong or something.
-
The employee must be new, during Mystic Timbers they just left them sitting out because so many enthusiasts were visiting.
-
I am pretty sure it was 1997, which makes sense because if you look at the Warren County permit website it is the last year which has any permits for the park listed.
-
The park is inside the City of Mason, pretty sure they get permits from the city not the county.
-
Viewing the documents is free and unless something changed in the last three years you are allowed to take photos. They only change if you want copies made.

Just drove over to the City of Mason building and Planning offices and asked to see the filing from Kings Island. The office staff knows to keep the coaster documents easily accessible, so it’s a very quick process. How do I know? I left work early and drove over and did it myself. I have pictures of the documents from June 17th for Mystic Timbers. But it’s just a document which shows the footings, it’s enough for a general layout and type of coaster but that’s about it. In the case of this coaster we should get a very good idea of the height based on the length of the lift hill, most B&M coasters use a 45 degree lift. Nope it’s a very general requirement and will need to be filed for this coaster.

No need for an app you can already use the Apple watch instead of the phone. First add the season pass to the Kings Island app which it sounds like you already did. Then open the pass in the app and add it to your wallet. The items added to your wallet will sync to your watch. To display your pass just open it in the wallet app on your watch. As a warning some of the scanners around the park have a hard time scanning my watch, but it does work.

All paint which is exposed to light fades. The color makes a big difference and red and yellow traditionally fade faster then other colors. While blue typically lasts the longest. This is due to how color functions and the energy being absorbed will slowly cause the chemical bonds of the colorant to break down. Just because the paint has faded does not mean it is not doing its job which is to protect the metal. I am not very familiar with the specific paints being applied to coasters, but typically clear coats while they do a good job protecting the paint are difficult to paint over. I suspect its not a cost issue upfront, parks are worried when a coaster does need touched up or fully painted. They are likely looking at the entire possible life of the coaster and realized its just cheaper to repaint it.

Either something out of order, cancelled, or was skipped. My theory is it was supposed to be for CGA, the park requested FAA clearance, went to the city council looking for permission to build a hyper. Then cancelled everything. I have a few guesses as to why it’s on hold but I suspect give it another year or two and it will show up.

I will admit, I assumed the people speculating it was Fred Grubb were correct, I have had the pleasure of meeting him twice and it looks enough like him that I could believe it was. I was always more bothered by the crazy speculation surrounding a possible visit to the park. Because if you are familiar with the processes surrounding new attractions, I cannot think of a single reason why he would be visiting a park like what people were assuming was occurring.
-
Fred Grubb was at Kings Island to meet with Greg Scheid, you can even see him in the original photo. Scheid at the time was the regional Vice President of Cedar Fair above both Cedar Point and Kings Dominion, which at the time the photo was taken had both recently opened new RMC coasters. Scheid had his office at Kings Island which is why the meeting happened at KI, if his office had been at another park in the chain, the photo in question would have never happened. It would be extremely strange for this kind of meeting to be primarily about some hypothetical coaster that would not be built for several years and even if it was, there is zero need to have the meeting at the park where the coaster will be built. It’s fine to speculate that RMC might build some coaster in the future, but the photo is not evidence of anything.

It’s from the annual presentation for investors, there was a pair of pie charts, one showing revenue, one showing earnings after expenses. You can find these on Cedar Fairs corporate website, but the last year they provided this information was 2016.

It might be difficult to tell from the pictures but both trains are still there. It’s pretty normal for trains to end up just sitting around when a coaster is removed, with the new building next to the boneyard they might be waiting until that is done to move the trains. Saving a piece of track like this is strange. Most likely they have an idea in mind, I expect to see it used in some theming. When Universal Orlando replaced Hulk with a new copy of the ride they also kept a piece of track and put a figure of the Hulk ripping one of the old trains off the track over the entrance.
-
Here you go, I created this using the Warren County GIS website. Purple is already clear, Blue is the path of The Beast, Red is where I think the ride is going. I turned on the topographical overlay so you can see why the coaster is taking this path. This is the flattest area available, which ends in a large flat area perfect for a turn around. Did a measurement using Google Maps and its around 2,600 ft from southern end to northern edge of the old Firehawk space.

While I do not agree with some individual decisions, overall International street looks better than I can ever remember. The light stands are the worst element and just feel out of place, I know there were some before, no idea if it’s same number or locations as before but without the trees they just stand out and do not blend in. It feels weird looking at the fountain without the pedestals. It’s like something is missing. But I agree with the decision, I think it is a logical modernization and once the entire system is operational it will become more obvious why they were removed and a year or two from now it will feel normal.
-
Not sure when you went last year, but I spoke with maintenance during Winter Chillout. The belts were replaced mid-season last year after a lot of problems with them being too short.
-
My guess is MCS is the hyper for CGA which appears to have been scrapped or on hold. Correct me if I am wrong but if I remember correctly they were also out of sequence for the dive coasters at CW and CP. Someone recently confirmed the coaster at Canada’s Wonderland was originally intended to be built first and it was scrapped late in the process and Valravn was built instead. Which I believe how someone knew to ask the question was the out of sequence labels from the track.

Implementation sounds poor, but could be better than it sounds in practice. But I am not a fan of pouches on coasters. The idea of metal detectors that are then followed by enough distance to the train where you could put the items back in your pockets is not going to work. The best way to fix this long term is to redesign the line. Have a space which you can enter from the line right before the station and from the exit with free lockers which have keys on wrist bands. Lock your items before continuing to the station and use metal detectors when leaving this space so you know the guest does not have them when they go to the station. To prevent guests from looping around from the exit back into the line provide guests with tokens or signs of some kind as they enter the locker area and require them to exit back into the line. I have seen this at several parks and I will admit mostly in Japan, but it works.
