Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
Kenban replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Crazy speculation to link all of the work which we have seen being performed in the park this year. What we are missing is that the path of the train will change to circle most of the park. Since the train tracks to the south of WWC will no longer be located in the current location there is plenty of room for the coaster. The trees are being cut down near The Beast so that the train can pass through. One new station will be located where the old action theater is currently located which is why they are clearing out the building. The second new station will be located in the front of the park next to Congo Falls. Then it will pass over a bridge which will be built in front of the park entrance. The path of the train will also take it down to the clearing behind Banshee where we saw dirt pushed around earlier in the year. This is because we will also be getting a hotel with its own stop on the train. For what might actually happen I would look at trying to figure out the path of least resistance. It appears that this will have to pass over WWC. I would think it would do so as few times as possible in locations which are easy to build. -

Old enough they still say Taft Broadcasting. Just want to add these are just surveys to show the property boundaries, easements, etc. They are likely not that interesting to most people. -

If anyone is interested there are some other good sources of aerial photography of Kings Island besides just Google and Bing. Hamilton County Which I know the park is not in Hamilton but they have photography which goes far enough to cover the park. It is new enough it even has the gliders. The site just says 2015, I think it is before the start of the 2015 season but I am not 100% sure. Warren County The aerial photos are out of date but they have a lot of other information. You can check out property lines, taxes, etc. They even have some really old survey images you can download. -
The most likely rides to be removed in my opinion are Xtreme Skyflyer, and Invertigo. I think of the two the skyflyer is more likely. But I would also not be surprised to see Invertigo moved to a smaller park. I think people are overestimating the costs of keeping Vortex running. Boo Blasters I could see replaced.

I wanted to say thank you for the personal message with the information. I responded to your message. But in short I believe the coordinates are not correct. -

If someone wants to share great. If not no big deal. But when someone says something about the ride I want to see something backing up your comment or at least be willing to explain your reasoning. Otherwise we have no way to check your work. Until I see something I can trust, I treat information as rumor. -

Public does not have to mean easy to find. You need to know who to talk with and what to ask. There is likely a park plan which would have this information on it with the planning office. It might even matter who you speak with. If it is someone who wants to help you then they might be able to lead you to the information you want, if it is someone who is getting annoyed with people asking about the park and plans then they might make it more difficult. -

I went and looked at google maps. From what I can tell the origin would be south west of the park and likely to be in the middle of the highway. If I had coordinate locations from previous projects it would be pretty easy to figure out. But I went and looked at the blueprints to Banshee and the pages which are available online that I could find do not show coordinates they just label the points. The information is likely on another page which I cannot find. -

I will take you up on that. Except I will do it in a completely different method. We know these coordinates are feet from a specific point, which I do not know what that point is, based on another page of the blueprints these coordinates are Kings Island Park Coordinates so you need the origin to plot them correctly. Except two points form a line and to get that we do not need to know the origin. N1 is N 2932.64 and E 4292.23 N3 is N 2900.68 and E 4305.20 That means point N3 is 31.96 feet south and 12.97 feet east of N1. Using basic geometry that means the inverse tangent of 12.97/31.96 will give me the angle between the hypotenuse and the adjacent side which in this case in the north component. That works out to an angle of 22.088 degrees. Which means that edge is pointing south east at an angle of 157.9 degrees. Which makes sense based on the diagram and suggests that the north arrow is accurate. Since it does appear these are Kings Island Park coordinates and not based on any international standard what is the location of the origin? My guess is that if you take the Westernmost edge of the park and southern tip of the park land you would get the coordinate. -

At least from what I have seen, the Exploded view and the area of work are in the same orientation. Which means the arrow should be correct for both the overview and the exploded view. -

I work and live in Dayton, during the hours that the office is open. I want to get a copy and have no issues paying for the copy. I have problems getting the time to do so. -

Yep. I have them all plotted out. Research UTM coordinates Except by definition UTM is in meters. I was trying to use State Plane coordinates. Either way they are just X, Y coordinates from some origin. Which I could be making the wrong assumptions about the origin. For a while I was assuming they were just truncated values since North 492914 usft is a line which would go through the WWC turntable somewhere around the center. But that only works for North, not east. -

Anyone have any luck converting the coordinates. I have no doubt they are real. But the closest I can get sticks them on the wrong side of the highway. So I am making some wrong assumptions or just totally off base. It might also help if I had more of the plans then just a screenshot from a youtube video. I know Oldschool figured it out just wondering what I am doing wrong at this point. -

The coordinates for the footings in the shaded area are at the 56 second mark in that youtube video. I see how Oldschool75 thought the coordinates were fake. I still have not figured out the correct conversion method. -

Sorry to disappoint on the coordinates front. I did not use them at all. I made sure north was the same on both the layout and the map then started scaling it so it would not hit as little as possible and tried to get it to cover the areas which we know are being cleared. So frankly I could be wrong. But I have the orientation correct so either I totally screwed up the scale or I am close. I saw a line of stakes down the banks where I show the ride crossing the water. Several of the zone lines appear to line up with the train tracks. The section where the two sides are together are where it crosses WWC. The two boxes on this section of track are where it crosses the WWC line. The sections of track where the lines are farther apart is likely the sections where the airtime hills are. These line up with the train tracks and maintenance road. So is this actually correct? No clue, sorry. -

That was enough for me. I had actually figured it out and never posted the picture because I figured I was wrong. I have a pretty good idea on where and how big now. Will post a picture tonight. I think the southern tip of the coaster is going to be at the tree line next to the power lines. That section where the coaster goes around something just above the zone 3 text is next to the turn on Diamondback. The section lines between 1A and 1B plus the line between 2 and 3 are the train tracks. -

Typically on a GCI the first building is part of the brake run and is the train storage and maintenance. It is one of the signature items on a GCI coaster and just stands out on the layout as something you would see on a GCI. -

Very possible, this year RMC has four coasters opening, Lightning Rod, Storm Chaser, Joker, and Wildfire. All opening within about a three month window. To my knowledge none have been announced for next year at this point. But I agree looks like a GCI. I would assume GCI will also be doing the work at Cedar Point, I am expecting it to get the Ghostrider treatment. -
The Beast has had trims since before it opened. The reason that they are so obvious today is because the trims were replaced by magnetic brakes which are much more aggressive than the old skid brakes. The question needs to be is the ride actually going slower? According to the park the new trims are in the same locations as the old trims. The park also claims you leave the trims at the same speed as the old trims just the distance over which you are slowing down is shorter so you feel it more. Personally I have no way to verify this. I would be totally fine with replacing the track and trains, and would love for the park to do so. I am not a fan of the PTC trains and when I ride The Beast I either ride in the front row or ride in a middle bench so I am not over the wheels. I have been wondering what GCI could do for The Racer as well. I would keep the design just replace the track itself and the trains, I would think this would also allow the park to run one side backwards again as well, but I doubt Cedar Fair would be willing.

Cedar Point 2016 Talk
Kenban replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
They announced the battle for Cedar Point at Coaster Mania without planning to do so. The parks general manager brought it up and started talking about it then stopped and asked the PR head if they were talking about it yet. Who responded that they had not planned on it but at this point it is a a little too late. -

I have no idea about Mason but in some areas a company can request to keep plans secret for competitive reasons. The park knew this was going to happen considering both Diamondback and Banshee plans leaked before the announcement. There is likely some way the park could have kept the plans secret if they wanted. -
Yes but make sure when the screen asks if you have a meal plan you select the correct type. There are seperate buttons for season long, all day, and single meal. As long as you select the correct type it appears to work just fine. But if you select all day and then scan a pass it gives an error.
-
Please do not misunderstand I wanted to say some issues appeared to be due to programming issues. For example I saw the screen go grey and stop allowing input more than once for the party in front of me. At the same time I also witnessed people selecting the wrong type of meal plan which caused the kiosk to want a wristband when they tried to use an annual pass. If you have a meal plan there are three icons one for each time single meal, all day, all season and you need to pick the correct option.

Jukebox dinner installed the self service kiosks that have been showing up at Cedar Point. But there is an important difference these have barcode scanners and work with the dinning plans. There are only two and people seemed to be having problems. Some of which appeared to be caused by the user and some were not. Overall just wish they had more than two. There is enough room for at least one more. Also the food was actually pretty good. Fries were fresh and the burger appeared to have been freshly made from ground beef and not a formed frozen party.
