Kings Island's Wurlitzer 157 Band Organ Plays Again!
Magenta Lizard replied to hosscat's topic in Kings Island
Btw, people figured out your current age from your original post where you said what age you were in a certain year It wasn't actually people spreading rumors. I greatly appreciate what you've done with the organ. It sounds fantastic. I don't remember if I posted it here, but I know I have told others in person, that when I first heard it after you worked on it, at first I thought I was mistaken that it was running and it was a recording. Because when it was running last season (finally), it was cool to have it working but it sounded kind of awful. Now it sounds truly beautiful. I know you did it out of love not for money, but it feels churlish that the park would "let you" fix the organ without showing their appreciation in at least some sort of compensation. A couple free tickets, something. -
I just want to mention how much I appreciate the change of when the National Anthem is sung in the mornings, from 10 to 9:30. Last year, I often couldn't hear it or didn't even know it was happening until halfway through because I was in line or on a ride during ERT. Now, I can always hear it, and people are generally quiet and respectful, and we can even be sure to see a flag while it is going on.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: The Make Up Day 2
Magenta Lizard replied to stashua123's topic in Trip Reports
If it makes you feel any better, last week when I was at Kings Island, the train did close due to inclement weather. -
My Little Pony or Angry Birds would be cool, but I think that the longevity of Peanuts is a good thing.

I was curious too: http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2015/05/01/399842082/whats-inside-a-derby-pie-maybe-a-lawsuit-waiting-to-happen -
I just got official word (through the @KingsIslandPR Twitter account) that the new Flying Beagles (or Woodstock Gliders if you prefer) will not be open during Haunt. I think it is a huge mistake, because the ride would be very popular among adults on those late night opens.

Yeah, I did. So at least there's that.

I had a fun little run-around this morning getting my ticket for the show. I think that Accesso $6 fee for buying anything through the website is ridiculous, especially when I'm coming to the park twice a week anyway. What am I paying for, the "convenience" of typing in all my own info, and using my own ink and paper to print my ticket? So, I decided to go to the ticket window. The young man working the window clearly had no idea what I was talking about but his supervisor promptly popped forward to help... by telling me those are sold online only. But, I can come down to their online sales window and order through the website! I asked about the fee, and she told me I'd have to pay it but she could reimburse me in Beagle Bucks. Since I really want to do this, but being charged that stupid fee or not was my deciding factor, I decided it was acceptable. So, I went down, waited for the computer to boot and connect, and tappy tapped all my info in. I just really hope it is secure. Afterward we had to walk over to guest services (and I had to go through metal detection) to print my ticket. Absolutely ridiculous.

Don't feel too bad. They've been throwing them since almost the beginning of the season, I generally see six shows a week, and I've never come close to catching one However, I did find one thrown on the ground in the mulch beside the exit path one day, that apparently someone had caught but didn't want. So I have one, at least!

They hijacked it (somewhat literally) for the most disappointing (in my opinion) Haunt attraction, Tombstone Terror-tory There is one line for entry to the train, then it takes you partway through its circuit (you can see the handicapped ramp for where it stops if you watch when you ride the train), and you're forced to get off. Then you wait in another long line which barely moves because Fright Lane holders from the trains after yours arrive and go to the front. Then you finally get to walk through the White Water Canyon trail (I think) which has some of the most obvious "hiding" places and most bored scare-actors, back to the park, and wonder why you just wasted an hour of your life on that. I'd much prefer just normal train operations, even without added theming, but simple Halloween decorations would be a bonus.

To me it is a little weird to still call it a "Coaster Campout" with this implementation. From Picnic Grove, you can barely even see any coasters (camping out in the grassy field by Diamondback would be way cooler). One coaster available during evening ride time, two in the morning. I'm not really sure who this is supposed to appeal to. Not coaster enthusiasts, who are likely to already have passes. Not families, who are likely to balk at not being able to bring in food.

The last few times I've ridden (in 7-1) I've had almost no trouble, except for the neck-punch. For some reason that alarms me more than it should. I keep worrying I'm going to bust my jugular.

I've been thinking about this apparent bias against single riders. Let's say, on every train, you have two singles (or thirds, or fifths) who don't care where they sit (or you think singles or thirds or fifths shouldn't have the right to choose what row they sit after the same length wait as pairs, or no one should ever get to choose rows, whatever). So, the line micromanager pairs them up (hopefully not holding anything up in doing so). Now there's a whole extra row for pairs. If that occurs /every/ train, perfectly, you've got an extra dispatch every twelve to eighteen trains (depending on the ride). Is that really worth it? For taking away single riders' freedom to choose where they sit, and potentially making them exceedingly uncomfortable depending upon who they are sat with? Not to mention it would never work perfectly, and the micromanagement involved would inevitably slow things down every dispatch to the point it would fritter away any added overall capacity. I think some people are imagining single riders (and uneven groups) to have a /much/ bigger affect on their perfectly paired day than they actually do. I've seen three or four full train dispatches "wasted" when someone vomits on a ride (not to mention the copious time used cleaning before each time the whole train is sent empty). When are we going to add a vomit tax to those people, for the inconvenience encountered by those that are behind them in line?

A hint for keeping cool, for the women who visit the park on these sweltering days: Get one of the little cups of ice water. Drink the water. Dump as much of the ice as will fit in the cleavage of your bra and just let it melt over time. It really helps with cooling off.

Lean forward during the head banging parts. It can help.

Yep, what he said. A few minutes after bows, a handful of performers come out and will sit for pics and questions. You line up in the left-center aisle to wait.

I never even stayed for a meet and greet until last week, despite seeing approximately six shows a week since it started this year. And only then because a kid in my group wanted to (and I didn't ask any questions or get my pic taken).

Welcome to KIC!

Aww, no Planet Snoopy means no Woodstock Gliders! Another reason for me to be upset they put the ride over there.

I think part of the intrigue is that you can't get it just anywhere. Places that have soft serve usually only carry vanilla, occasionally chocolate as well. I've heard a few stores have blueberry but nowhere close to me. Heck, I'm still nostalgic for when McDonald's had a vanilla-soft-serve/orange-sherbet swirl and that was 25 years ago. But I can't get it anywhere, so it stands out.
-
I hope not. Have you ever noticed how many Woodstocks there are in Planet Snoopy? I noticed one at the top of a sign a couple weeks ago, then I started to realize they're everywhere. You could be a potential target from almost any location in PS if he has that kind of aim

It's driven me crazy too. I always thought it sounded like "je pas" something. I looked up once, and found a reference to a phrase "poisson-parroquet" (fish-parrot) that I think they use a bit like we use scaredy cat, and thought maybe he shortened it even more but I'm not convinced. Then there is also "plank de bastooo-oui!!!" before the teeter totter. It may be "plank de Bastille" I suppose. When he goes to explain how it works, I kind of think he says "ca va 'cool', oui!" or roughly "it'll be cool, yes!" I am so rusty on French and had so little to begin with, that I don't have a chance of understanding it, but I feel like I should.

The restroom scene in Club Blood is the only thing I found actually horrifying at Haunt
