  1. Okay, so, Park Restoration LLC was the former operator of the Beach Club. Did they also OWN that property? Or did the park own it and just hire them as an operator? Because I don't understand how they can insure something that they didn't own themselves. If Park Restoration LLC owned it and insured it, that makes perfect sense that they wouldn't be entitled to the insurance. Just a lil confused!
  2. This isn't exactly comparable to a person going to Walmart versus Target to save money. Cedar Fair and Intamin have a long history. At one time Intamin was their go-to for new coasters. However, issues with downtime and safety have made their coasters a less profitable investment over time than what other manufacturers can offer. The last ride Intamin built for Cedar Point, Shoot the Rapids, injured and could have killed several riders. That ride is now being removed. Due to these issues, Cedar Fair probably will not work with Intamin any time in the forseeable future even if they can offer a cheaper product. Guest safety comes first. They will gladly spend more money on a more reliable and safe product, AKA a B&M coaster or some other manufacturer with a good track record. Maybe B&M COULD make something like Maverick in the future, they are now branching out a bit more into launched coasters like Thunderbird. You never know. But Cedar Fair probably won't get a CLONE of Maverick as they no longer work with that manufacturer (Intamin). I suggest reading over some of the threads when you have time, people really have a lot of great insights on here. I came to this site knowing almost nothing about this industry and I've learned so much just reading, and because people were kind enough to answer my questions. Heck, I'm still learning something new every day here! Overall, we're not going to know for sure what is coming until it is announced by the park's management and PR. That will likely be many months from now.
  3. What's that yellow track for? The coaster going to China?
  4. I'm more excited to see an elephant just doing elephant things rather than doing tricks. They often have pretty entertaining personalities on their own!
  5. Or "Neighbor of Beast"
  6. Going back through this thread, it looks like a few people had their wishes come true. (A B&M invert)
  7. The thread has risen from the grave! I'm torn between three: 1) KD's Crypt (haven't ridden it yet but it looks so cool) 2) Gatekeeper 3) Disney World's Haunted Mansion
  8. I didn't even know it was possible to be thrown from a Scrambler. Very sad. Prayers for her family and for the other girl who was injured.
  9. Such awesome photos! Sounds like it was a really fun day. Great trip report!
  10. I don't get why this discussion is getting SO heated and personal. Saying a person is acting like a two year old who didn't get cake is harsh, especially considering all of the positive things the OP has said about the park AND them acknowledging that they are grateful to even have early ride time. Truth is, BOTH sides have plenty of good points. The OP wanted to open up a discussion about how this perk could be better. I'm sure they'd talk to Guest Relations if it was a seriously huge deal or if they were actually angry about it. I'm not getting that from reading these posts.
  11. Maverick beat me up last summer. Last time I rode Vortex (which was admittedly a few years ago) it was fine. I guess everyone's experience can be different!
  12. If Vortex left I'd rather see some classic flats in that spot. I think X-base is the perfect spot for a giga. ^Glad to hear it's running smoother!
  13. I wonder what the determining factor is for certain establishments to be subject to ADA regulations? I was at Krispy Kreme a few weeks ago, and the doors were incredibly heavy and only one would actually open. There was no button to push to open them automatically. A person in a wheelchair would never be able to pull them open on their own. And it was the only customer entrance. Is it the size of the company? The number of patrons they attract? Or is this just a violation that hasn't been caught yet?
  14. My point with KI being near a major city is that people already live there year round and the distance from the universities, etc. is commutable. 25 minutes from University of Cincinatti. (Depending on traffic, of course.) Cleveland to Sandusky, on the other hand, is about an hour away. Most people don't want to commute that far for an hourly job. Employee housing certainly COULD be useful for some people, don't get me wrong. It's just that the hassles of maintaining it properly would probably make management think it's not worth the cost. It's cheaper to hire high schoolers who already live nearby with their parents. And cost is a major determining factor.
  15. I feel like since KI is near such a big city, they don't really need housing for workers the way Cedar Point does. Sandusky doesn't have a lot of apartments to choose from and nobody's going to buy a house for an hourly & seasonal job. There's already a large population, a few colleges, and plenty of housing options in the Cincinatti area. It's not quite as isolated as Sandusky. I dunno if it would be very cost effective for KI to build dorms. I guess you could say the same for Orlando with Disney though, and they have dorms. But it seems a lot of their workers take semester-long or summer internship jobs. Edited to add stuff.
  16. The adult unemployment rate is so high, I don't understand why it's such a huge need to hire such a large percentage of your workforce as high school students. Are adults just not willing to take the jobs? I always thought Memorial Day through Labor Day was a good standard for summer break, but class sizes are larger now and schools are less efficient and have stricter requirements than they once did. Here in west Texas, the school schedules are crazy. They have barely any summer break, just a few weeks in July, and they have longer fall and spring breaks. And only one or two snow days every few years, because Texas.
  17. Around the world, I'd expect to see a few. In the US, I doubt we'll ever see more than one or two. I suspect one will pop up in Vegas someday in the future.
  18. What I want it to be: A Wing Coaster soaring among the trees. I'd love to see one come to Kings Island at some point. What I think it will be: At this point, I'm kinda starting to lean towards a Dive Coaster. Valravn is getting so much hype and I wouldn't be surprised if they had planned in advance to bring Dive Coasters to a couple other Cedar Fair parks. Kind of like how the Amusement Dark projects will eventually at each park. What I've ruled out: Nothing. Anything is possible, there's a first time for everything, things that happened in the past won't necessarily follow the same pattern in the future, etc. What I know: Absolutely nothing.
  19. Eh, Google kinda ruined Youtube. Used to be the ads were just on a side bar, then Google bought them, and now there's video ads delaying almost EVERY video on the site. And the ads often are more difficult to load and require more buffering than the video itself. So it takes even longer. At least they have a good search engine though.
  20. 3 words: Touch. Screen. Ordering. The most efficient food place I've seen is Sheetz, which has locations in northern Ohio and Pennsylvania. They have a huge made to order menu, with several touch screens that people can use to create their order exactly the way they want. With an even simpler menu like those of the food stands at KI, this could work really, really well. With this system, when you complete your order you get a receipt printed out and you pay up at the front counter, but it would be even more efficient to just have a card swipe there. I guess that would make it impossible for anyone paying cash, so that's an issue. But for most transactions it would work really well. They make your order, then they call your number and you go up and get your order. The other issue with this system though is where do people wait for their food? It could cause a bit of crowding around the food stands but I'd guess it'd be no worse than the huge lines backing up into the walkways and blocking people from getting to rides. The last issue that I can think of is cost. I wonder what a system like this would cost for 5 touch screens per food stand. Just brainstorming a few thoughts.
  21. Has anyone been keeping an eye out for new name trademarks by Cedar Fair? Edit to add: I know that a new trademark doesn't necessarily mean that's what the ride will be named, like Centurion. But it's always interesting to see.
