  1. It's a strange world we live in where Kentucky Kingdom is adding hours and Kings Island is setting the stage to reduce hours.
  2. And here is my prediction for the ad campaign for Kings Island next year, coming from our communication director:
  3. I hate to agree with you @super7, but for once I can. It makes no sense if you have decreased attendance to do things that further decrease your attendance. That's why you need competent people in leadership roles to bring people in. But in their infinite wisdom, they get rid of an industry veteran who knows how to keep people coming back and keep one who advertises attractions that are no longer there, does not proofread posts, and blocks people on social media.
  4. I knew you are a good man. And a great lesson for the son. Thank you for being honest.
  5. However....is this some of the marketing done out of Charlotte? If so, it demonstrates the downside of centralization and economy of scale.
  6. If anything, this new blast coaster needs to go to Kings Dominion instead of Canada. They could build the volcano big enough for future rides and attractions to. Wonder Mountain would be well taken care of by Cedar Fair, I think, with a blast coaster, but would you loose guardian, thunder run and Vortex? And fire blasting out would be tacky.
  7. Did you not pay for the milk?
  8. I could see an overhaul of FOF because it's a major coaster and tied into area 72. The junkyard...I don't see a value unless it's completely redone and could be marketed as a new attraction like ttd is.
  9. expound on fix up please.
  10. I think Dominator was destined for KD, the name is perfect.
  11. Spill the beans...
  12. So, can we assume that my KI gold pass, with passport, will get me into Cedar Point Shores, Knott's Soak City, Knott's Scary Farm, SCarowinds, etc? The things that passholders are excluded from currently? They added a specific Scary Farm season pass recently. And at some parks, parking is not included with a pass IIRC.
  13. Laws a mercy, tarnation. But new blood can bring new energy to Oldfarts like you and me. I think I can use that word here, No Legs Larry says it in the show!
  14. I think add ons will increase in price. If they are smart, they will. But you could see a model where add ons are not valid at other parks. So you have a ki gold with passport and all the extras. But you go to KD and you get into the park, but you pay full freight for your meals and drinks.
  15. No, I've had more than five years of memories. It's been quite the ride through time, actually! As I was driving home from my workplace tonight (takes an hour and a stunning drive this time of year) I was reflecting on a conversation I had with a coworker today about being successfully employed at the same place for almost 16 years, but each day being a new challenge. Makes me appreciate the warrior @SonofBaconator is with all he has been through. Overcoming obstacles to a successful outcomes is what winners do and @SonofBaconatorpersonifies this.
  16. There's more, trust me.

So we are now promoting the fact that the ride is shorter and has less capacity than the ride it harkens back to. Wonderful way to communicate how great the ride is! Also, this is nitpicking, but Sol Spin is not where Skylab is. Skylab was to the south, roughly in the area of the Coke Marketplace and basketball game is iirc. Flying Dutchman was roughly in Sol Spins plot. Our communication director really knows and applies his history!
  18. Did they rehire dick kinzel? While other industries do this, it's usually for cruises or tours, not a $40 ticket to an amusement park. Guess holiday world and Kentucky Kingdom will be see increases in attendance when people find out Cedar Fair will not allow you to choose a different day...but hey, they already have your money!
  19. Made my day! I know people give you a hard time but I'm glad you can laugh about it.
  20. For all the Matarese fans out there...
  21. All I know is that each day I have been this year, it's not been busy the vast majority. We all love those rain days when the park is empty, but that is not sustainable. Generally, addition is better than subtraction. So if (insert reason here) Kings Island is down by 20000 guests the week of June 7, what can we do immediately to get attendance up? What can we plan for the next few weeks? How can we reach more people with Grand Carnivale? That's the job of an effective Communication Director. Don has not said if he retired, moved to a job with Buc-Ees, or anything. That's his prerogative. But it reeks of corporate jealousy and sabotage. Who's next? Mike Koontz? I'm not saying people are throwing others under the bus, but when times are bad, people will do bad things.
  22. Antique Autos were a modest investment. Besides enthusiasts, many people loved it. And I got a flyer about it in the mail. It pulled the nostalgia string. Much like the 2 new flats harken back to nostalgia. The whole thing was bungled from Choads end. When attendance started to slip, he should have been reaching out to markets away from Cincinnati to bring people in. These are the once a summer people who will spend money and some will stay at places like camp cedar...but because of that fiasco, Cedar Fair will not make a dime. And about overhyping...a good campaign is not just about what's new, but it's about your favorites. Granny might like to come watch the Enterprise and barrels to think back, but she also might want to take a ride on the flume and enjoy the view from the tower. So while Choad is not responsible for lowered attendance directly, he bares a large burden because he is not getting the word out there.
  23. But Disney and universal have other businesses in their portfolio to soften that blow. Cedar Fair and their peer group don't. I do think that a competent Communication Director would be a major part of the solution in regards to weather, wildfire smoke and the other issues you mention: Get guests in the turnstiles to enjoy world class indoor shows during this heat and haze. We acknowledge that things are challenging with behavior today, that's why we have implemented the chaperone policy and publicize our security number. We want everyone to have a safe, good time.... I'm no wordsmith, but that is the job of one...to turn a negative into a positive and get more people in the park. When your #1 guy isn't doing anything to drive attendance
  24. If only we had a competent Communication Director who could have, well, communicated about Adventure Port. Yes, it might have been last minute. Yes, it might have been delayed. But overall it was a great overhaul. But, besides social media posts, it was not promoted well inside the greater Cincinnati area and not at all in other markets outside of the Cincy area. Instead of working with some of the parks biggest fans, Choad wants to scurry up and shew Brad away from an interview with the park GM . But at least he didn't want to try and grab a selfie with the park GM! The chaperone policy, even if directed by corporate, could have been spun in a way to drive attendance if we had a good wordsmith doing his job. Instead, it was silence. Maybe Choad was too busy snapping selfies with security? Because he is either not doing his job, or does not know how to do his job, he should be at the quarterly report for his role in the horrible attendance numbers that will be reported. I don't think he will want to take selfies with the unit holders!
  25. I don't think so. In 2-3 years it will be forgotten. A special event..think the grand carnivale of soccer, would probably be the ticket.
