One thing to think about though.... Just because a ride has been recently updated doesn't neccesarily mean it's not going anywhere. You only have to look at Cedar Fair's recent past to see that. Serial Thriller ugh hmm I mean Thunderhawk was recently painted and is now being moved to MIA also Texas Twister was repainted to colors that match much more with it's new theme at it's new park. Also when BKF was turned into Dominator they left off the name plates on the front of the trains. I know I'm talking about Geauga Lake items but my point is that they done a lot of prep work on the rides while they were still in operation at it's current park. I do think it's more doubtful that they would be doing that at CP but it's just something to think about.

Very true, new updates don't neccessarily mean the ride is not going to be removed. Remember, the report is that a removal is planned for 2010, meaning that most likely either a "major" ride is in mid-development or a "minor" addition is in the early, planning stages. Knowing CP, they like to keep their park well-kept with nothing looking in bad shape and everything running smoothly, thus the updates.

I would like to see CCMR removed and have a coaster built in its place that would make use of the island that MF travels onto.

However, lets dream shall we.... How about removing DT in order to begin building a 500 foot lift hill that across the parking lot with a drop that will take passengers out of the park and along the causeway. 300 foot second drop, a couple of low-water maneuvers (such as a much less intense version of mavericks s-turn), and obliterating the world-record for air-time. You know if you're going to dream might as well deam BIG

He's also said that Top Thrill Dragster was the biggest mistake he ever made. And the company is facing monumental debt. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 800+ feet coaster from Cedar Point in the foreseeable future.

If they wanted a lot of space for a new attraction though, I have an idea. Never mind, some do say I have a mean streak in me.

I feel disaster transport and the area vacated in the coming months years/ by the ride for sale for a while now , would make for a great new coaster however, maybe just a nice family coaster somwhere like Sierra side winder or pony express at KNOTTS? Cedar Point by all accounts people feel its for coasters and fans of thrill rides however its for family's too:

I thought I remembered hearing that the one kiddie coaster at Geauga Lake was going to be at Cedar Point next year along with some of the kiddie rides. Has anyone else heard this?

^ Yes, indeed I have heard it. I've also heard though that BLMR will not be their new coaster so who knows except for CF really. I can see that going either way though. A ride like BLMR surely wouldn't cost too much. I think when your talking about some of the lower priced attractions when it comes to a park the calibur of Cedar Point they should pay the extra 500k for a new one. I may be very wrong on this but my thoughts....

Where do people keep coming up with this nonsense about CP & SFMM being in competition with each other when they're nowhere near being in the same market?

First off SFMM has been removing a couple of coasters lately,second Discovery channel no longer produces memorial day coaster shows(they havn't done a new one since 2003) so there's no longer a way for either park to mass market their "product line" any longer as in years past.

Now if CP is removing a coaster they've probably got a good reason for doing so,my guess would be due to lack of space for expansion & they're in need of replacing an outdated ride for a new one,but I can assure you that it has nothing to do whatsoever with SFMM's coaster count.

^ Your right and not right at the same time. CP and SFMM are not in the same geographic market. However during what was considered the "coaster wars" the two parks did compete with each other. In fact SFMM added 3 coasters in one year to take the title. No it didn't last long but it was at that time competition. Now SFMM has taken a different approach as well has CP... SFMM is looking to create a more friendly footprint (sound familiar) and CP is going after more of the family audience now.

CP has always gone for the family audience. People just don't look at CP that way. Especially since CP has 3 different kids areas throughout the park.

It is just that since they have more coasters than any other park, people always considered CP to be for the bigger kids at heart, not the smaller kids by size. And media days for new kids attractions/ areas really don't get the same type of media coverage as a coaster would get.

For comparison's sake as of 2007 CP has 23 kids rides while KI has 18 and SFMM has 10.

And as to CP's kids additions since 1982:

1982- Kid Author's Court (removed in 1999)

1985- Berenstain Bears

1986- Sir Rub-a-Dub

1992- Berenstain Bears additions which later led to Snoopy's Playhouse, and is again being changed this year.

I highly doubt that Corkscrew will ever be removed. It's a classic looping coaster, and, if I remember correctly, the first coaster in the world with three inversions.

Not to mention it's one of the most photogenic coasters in the world.

Ever? There comes a time when metal fatigue makes extensive rehab or removal of a steel coaster necessary. And given the financial condition of the current Cedar Point owner, I doubt they'd do that extensive of a rehab. But when? Now? Ten years from now? Twenty? That's the question...

Keep in mind though, how many of those 23 kids rides are unique rides? I think that CP has maybe 5 or 6 different "Hampton" style rides. Or just the rides where kids spin in a circle in a car on the ground. KI has at best 2 like that? CPs kids area is a joke, and I think the crowds in the kids area typically show that, as I have never seen a wait for anything but the kiddy coasters.

Keep in mind though, how many of those 23 kids rides are unique rides? I think that CP has maybe 5 or 6 different "Hampton" style rides. The reason that there is no waiting is because there are 23 of them. I would rather have 3 areas of the park for kids spread out than just one. At KI you can't even walk through the kids area for all of the strollers sitting everywhere. You ever had to have multiple 3-5 yr olds stand around in line for an hour, not happening.

When my son was that age we only went to KI only once because of the lines at the few kids rides they do have, they might be good kids rides but waiting an hour with kids on those rides was not worth it. At Cp there is usually no wait and at that age they do not care if they just go in circles they just want to ride. By the time my son realized that they were mostly the same ride he was on Disaster Transport and Iron Draggon.
