For those of you who have seen the construction where Swan Lake used to be, how do you feel? Are you upset, are you excited, indifferent, or perhaps a combination?

That's kind of how I feel too. I really was surprised though, I thought I would be upset at the area but I'm not at all. I saw it and felt ok. I think I'm trusting that CF will do something excellent with that area. I'm also hoping, and slightly assuming, that they will bring back the lake once everything is said and done.

While Swan Lake was nice, I really can't tell you how many times I walked by it on my way to Beast and didn't even glance at it.

I go to KI to enjoy the rides. Sure, the atmosphere of KI is made by things like Swan Lake but ultimately it's the rides that make the park. When I go to Niagara Falls, I expect to see the natural beauty of what the falls is all about, if the falls were not there or if some moron decide to block the prime viewing area for the falls, it wouldn't be worth going. The same goes for zoos, I go to a zoo to see the animals in their (somewhat) natural habitat. Now if a zoo would just have an animal in a cage w/o anytype of natural surrounding, I would not like it.

It is sometimes difficult to understand why an unpopular decision is made. I still don't agree with the removal of KCKC for The Crypt, it wasn't worth it. I did feel the same way about the removal of WWL for Maverick, until I rode Maverick, and then the sting of not having WWL anymore was not as bad.

The 2009 coaster has the opportunity to be a really good coaster. Now if CF has decided on a flop coaster and removed Swan Lake, much like Paramount decided with BLSC with the removal of the 'tiques and flyers, then the complaints will be numerous and loud. If it turns out to be a great ride, people (and myself) will be more apt to accept it.

Don't worry the lake will be coming back just a little smaller.

Along the same lines; where exactly does the fencing start; does it block LaRosas and The Beast?

Thanks,

Maria

The fencing starts on the other end of the walk way across from LaRosas. You can still get around in that area. I will take more pictures next time my camera died on me someone forgot to pug it in where they where done using it.

I never really looked at the lake. Back in the 1st year Cedar Fair owned the park I saw Mr. Kinzel and some of his higher ups pointing at the lake and talking amongest them-selfs. I didn't think anything of it but maybe they were talking about this.

My dad really misses the lake but he is more of an old school type person when it comes ot amusment parks.

If you recall when IJST was built, they closed the path between the current Sunt Coaster Site and swan lake. The fences currently block that same path. I have heard that we can expect that path to not make a return.

Well, I assume a B&M hyper coaster is being built, and KI severely needs a metal hyper coaster so I have no problem, however, it would be nice for them to put the water back in Swan Lake. They already removed enough water and scenary from Rivertown. From the Shawnee Landing(Canoe ride), to the entire Beast pond, to my favorite defunct water ride (can't you tell?), and now swan lake??

I agree with Browntggrr about the concept that if the new ride is awesome, people are quick to forgive. Might I ask Browntggrr.... Have you ridden The Crypt?? I just did. Let's just say as the ride stopped you could hear a pin drop from the gondola, followed by complaints.

In defense of the decision to put the Crypt in place of KCKC, the ride was getting old, suffered from quite a lot of downtime and spare parts were becoming scarce. Such has been the fate of many, many Arrow hydroflumes across the nation.

I'm no engineer, but it looks like your wish may come true...

How do you know that it will indeed be a steel hypercoaster? Is it just an accurate statement as Cedar Fair's CP specializes in them or do the footers somehow tell?

OK. I`ve been good for a long time and haven`t mentioned this recently. But I have to just once. The correct terminology is footing.

And no, we don`t know exactly what Kings Island is building for 2009. But what is clear from the concrete work that has been done on the former Swan lake site, is that it appears some sort of water element/feature will return to the site. Exactly what and how it interacts with the 2009 attraction remains to be seen. At least they will be returning some water to that site!

You've actually been very good in holding off on telling people that the footers are footings.

OK, now back to the talk about he footers.

Actually some of the speculation in this thread is based on very strong footings, while other speculation is based on shifting sand. Interpreting which is which is the rub.

Terpy, who wonders about the imminent arrival of cranes.

Send in the cranes.

There ought to be cranes.

And now it's next year.
