Oldschool75 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hey just wanted to let you guys know that I am trying to get my hands on some construction photos of the Eiffel Tower.(yes Terpy, the one at KI. lol) My grandfather worked for the company (Evers Welding) that helped build it. I am trying to contact Ray Evers about obtaining any of the construction photos. Quote

I have several pics on floppy in storage somewhere that show the park under construction. Problem is, they are buried in storage somewhere... oh, and the fact that I do not have a floppy drive anymore ;-) Shaggy Quote

Is there any pics of inside the tower above the top observation platform around? I know it is mostly the elevator mechanicals in there but it would be interesting IMO. Quote

Terpy, old enough to remember huge floppies, and formatting same (three sizes of floppies, as a matter of fact...and I have some of the small, hard plastic ones on my desk right now....) Quote

Nice to still be able to transfer media in all fashions even if older. Speed is not an issue just access. Quote

Every 3 or 4 screens, I had to take one floppy disk out and put in another. Each screen took 10 seconds to draw, then the little "Sir Graham" character would pop onto the screen, to the soothing sounds of 2000HZ "birds" chirping. Ah, the good old days! Quote

As for the 5 1/4 floppies, I still have the disk notcher I bought at a computer show to turn single-sided disks into double-sided disks. One of the things I remember most about my early days of computing was attending the latest computer shows to swap bragging tales about what new programs I had just successfully copied (I mean acquired). Anyone ever hear of the Fast Hack 'Em Program series of disk copiers? Mike B. Quote

It wasn't until it was almost ready that adds and news organizations started to show up. I know they are out there, and I might have some. The Commodore Vic 20 was my first...it didn't even have a floppy--it used a cassette deck instead! I still have the Vic 20 and cassette deck in a box in my garage...I've been trying to find some sort of "shadow box"-type display case to put it in. I figure I'll bring it into work--the IT geeks I work with would love it!! Quote
