DropZone99
This past weekend I went Downtown for two days. Lately I have been going alot, I even have ridden my bike to downtown which is over 20 miles away! We started our day off at "Eagle's Nest" Indianapolis's only spinning restaurant! It stands only about 250ft. tall above the Hyatt. Indiana State House You may have heard of the fire on the canal this past week, well there's whats left. The Lucas Oil Factory as I like to call it. It's ugly and a HUGE waste of tax payers money! Random buildings South of downtown Chase Tower Spire West side of downtown, sorry the roof of Eagles Nest is in the way Soon to be another convention center. Simon Malls World Headquarters Church with Hoosier Lottery in the background Circle Centre is nice IAG Historic Union Station was holding a red carpet event Hoosier Lottery Tower Plaza about 120ft. tall Random Chicken-Limo Key Bank Tower- Indianapolis's sixth tallest building I believe. DropZone99
Sunday Our crappy skyline from I-465 I kind of like our Skyline from this angle Soldiers and Sailors Monument Gothic lamp and Chase Tower Church on the Circle with The Huge Chase Tower It may not look that tall, but I believe it's some where around 900 ft. tall Regions Tower is still being renovated from the tornado's that ran through downtown in 2006. Random sky scrapers City Market Reflections off of Gold Building Me! Construction in Massachusetts Ave. District I forget what this building is called. It's taller than it looks I like how this came out Our downtown has too many blank spots Another cool thing. From Monument Circle Tower Thanks for reading! standbyme
It's nice to see someone who has pride in their hometown...something that is almost impossible to find in mine...but if you saw where I live you would understand! Anyway, thanks for the interesting photos. I was in Indy about 2 weeks ago...I drove by The Chase building a few times at night...I thought it looked cool and wondered what it was...thanks for enlightening me! UnrealNightmare
Haha you must have not gone inside the Lucas Oil Stadium. It's not so ugly on the inside. But when the Super Bowl comes to town its also going to draw in some much needed money for our city. The main reason we have the super bowl coming at all is because of that Big Waste of Tax payers money. If you wanna know what a bigger waste of tax payers money is drive down Keystone Ave. In Carmel and look at the pointless roundabouts that they are putting in. When they close off the intersection of Keystone and 116th I'm probably going to lose my job along with many other people in that area. The cost for these roundabouts is almost 150 million. What a Waste
Avatar
Angrybeaver good to see you made it downtown safe and looks like you had some good site seeing days. Enjoyed the report felt like I went to work as I was reading and seeing your pictures. The Hoosier Lottery building has 2 ice rinks inside and below street level. glad you got that I also noticed in the first picture on Sunday looks like you where at I-65 & I-70 south split and not I-465. I liked the picture that was looking straight up at the Chase Bank Tower and thought you might like a picture in it looking straight down. also one on the other side looking towards the other War monuments. Unrelated; a good friend of ours is one of the window installers for Regions but they have put off working up there till winter is over. From your self portrait it looks like you could still use a good haircut and what gets me is you must have passed 20 barber shops on your way into the downtown area. LOL The monument you did not know the name to is the Indiana World War Memorial and every serviceman that served in the war from Indiana is etched in stone somewhere throughout the memorial. So if you have relatives who did you can go and find their name. Nice report and thanks for taking the time to do it.
Monroe
I forget what this building is called. Thanks for reading! That is the World War Memorial building. Indianapolis has such an interesting history, and it is good to see people like yourself out and exploring it. Good job, and I can't wait for the next trip report of yours. (Avatar beat me, but he has that bending air thing going for him. All I have is a Merlin engine.)
The Interpreter
Angrybeaver, thanks for the great PTR. It's always fun seeing a town from another's perspective. And who says our youth don't exercise? How many of those people could ride a bike 20 miles to their downtown (and, I assume, back)?
tigellinus
WTH?! I'm gonna have to re-visit this PTR later when my comp. firewall isn't blocking the pictures!! Tiggy, working in one of the buildings above as we speak!
IndyGuy4KI
Thanks for the PTR. As you know by my screen name I live in Indy, but never have gone down town and enjoyed the scenery.
indianapolisman
You should know I can't help posting in this topic. I also rode my bike downtown this weekend although only two miles away. Got some upclose photos of the devestation left by the fires. I will post them later when I'm not on my Treo.
tigellinus
^^Was the canal affected much by the fires?? In terms of being able to fully walk it?
indianapolisman
^^Was the canal affected much by the fires?? In terms of being able to fully walk it? They only blocked off about a hundred foot or so on the E. side of the canal. Did you hear on the news this morning. They said it was arson. What a shame!! flightoffear1996
That civil war tower I climbed the stairs all the way up that last August. It was a pain in the butt, but i think it is the same height as the ET @ KI.
Gordon Bombay
Great PTR Angrybeaver! This was a great idea to post. My cousin currently works for Rottmann Architects in downtown Indy and loves living downtown. You should know I can't help posting in this topic. I also rode my bike downtown this weekend although only two miles away. Got some upclose photos of the devestation left by the fires. I will post them later when I'm not on my Treo. Looking forward to this!

indianapolisman
As promised earlier here is some photos of the condominiums that set fire last week. This picture was taken three days after the fire started. The fire dept. is still fighting hot spots as they tear open the walls with cranes. These are photos of the condos located directly on the canal. The steel is warped and there is almost nothing left. This one was taken this past Sunday. The clean-up is still under way and road closures continue. Luckily these were still under constructin and no one was inside of them. As for the rebuild I hope it goes through as reported. Fall of 2010.

clbehymer
I was just downtown today at the convention center. We were there for the food buyers show. Since they provided us free parking at the zoo, we took advantage of the nice weather and walked back. We ended up taking a detour through the NCAA Hall of Champions on campus. If you're in Indy and enjoy college sports, its worth the $5 to get in. Not huge or a day long trip, but interesting nonetheless.
Guest rcfreak339
Good Pictures! But I have to disagree with you about Lucas Oiler Stadium, the stadium is beautiful, and one of the nicest stadiums in the NFL, Plus ask almost any Indianapolis native and ask if it was a waste of tax payer money, most would say it's not. People in Indy take pride in there football and they wanted something new and fresh, and thats exactly what they got. How in the world is Lucas Oiler Stadium more ugly then the RCA dome? It's the ugliest building I have possibly ever seen.
tigellinus
^^Except when the roof is open at Lucas Oil people complain about either being too hot or too cold!! Also, Indyman, those canal fire pics are crazy!! That's just a wowza!! Anyway, I got to go back through and check out your PTR, and it was pretty good!! I have mixed feelings on Indy to be honest...yes, it's small, but for me, as a world traveler, it always feels good to be back after traveling to other different states and cities out there. indianapolisman
I have to agree tigg. Indianapolis's skyline is a great welcome home after visisting other places. No matter how much fun I have elsewhere I always really enjoy coming home.
The Interpreter
As Dorothy said: "There's no place like home." Terpy...who won't start singing that 'annoying' Disney anthem again...yet
XGatorHead 8904
And for me, when coming home from places to the south, there's no better "welcome home" than traveling north on 71/75, coming around the bend and being suddenly hit with the Cincinnati skyline, especially at night. What a sight!

bsktgrvy
We have visited Indianapolis several times and I think it is a great city with a very nice downtown area. While Cincinnati has been wasting time all of these years Indianapolis has grown into a thriving city.
westcoaster
there is nothing like in the middle of the night to come up the skyline of cincinnati, i've been a lot of places still so impressive!!! But wait, cincinnnati has the banks, coming!!! and don't forget,,, there will be, a carousel and a park below the banks.... and cincinnati will get there: cincy still has Kings Island , the beach, coney island, wake nation, great wolfe so whats' indy got:
XGatorHead 8904
Uh oh... it wasn't my intention to start a Cincy vs. Indy war... And I'll believe in The Banks when I see it...
