Took my 3 year old on the Teddy Bear at Strickers this past Saturday and here is the result...

She's very cute, my little beasties' are 3 and 5. My 5 year old daughter loves fairly odd coaster, but my 3 year old daughter should be hitting 40 inches sometime soon.

I personally like the fact that she announces its not scary then gets the most freaked out look I have ever seen on a kid for awhile.

This is adorable! She is so cute! She did much better than I did on my first rollercoaster. I was on The Beastie and was scared to death!

And lets not forget about the Teddy Bear's neighbor, The Tornado. You know, the coaster that a DOG has ridden!?!?!

There are just some things that you scratch your head and just say, "Ok......"

Tornado is amazing. There is a ridiculous ejector airtime drop at the end of that ride.

Awesome video - some of my favorite amusement park memories are captured in the photos of the kids (currently 5 and 3) enjoying rides (first FOC on-ride photo, FOC photo taken from JN Atom Smashers line, Swiper's Sweepers).

Your post also reminded me that I wanted to confirm the opening dates of Stricker's Grove so I could get one on the calendar (I haven't been and was hoping to make it this year). The following link takes you to their website, but the interesting things was it shows 3 public open days this year

- 4th of July and 2nd Sunday in August as usual

- Also Labor Day. The normal 3rd day has typically been in October from what I understand which leaves the question: have they moved customer appreciation day or will they have 4 Public days this year?

The Tornado is a great ride. The air time at the end has to be illegal.

That's a first....I have never seen a dog on a roller coaster.

The "gentleman" in the front seat with the dog later tried the same thing at Holiday World. Mrs. Pat Koch herself escorted both him and the dog out of the park. He apparently had somehow snuck the dog in...Ralph Stricker let the dog ride. Pat wasn't going to put up with such tomfoolery...

And to throw in a bit of Coney trivia, here it is.

The Teddy Bear is based off of the ride of the same name that opened at Cincinnati`s Coney Island in 1935. It was designed by Herb Schmeck of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and operated until Coney "closed" on September 6th, 1971. The ride stood 40 feet tall, which is actually two feet taller than the height of the Fairly Odd Coaster!

Actually Teddy Bear and Fairly Odd Coaster are not the same except for height. And Fairly Odd Coaster has been modified several times...while, oddly, its kindred at Kings Dominion, Wonderland and Carowinds have not had such extensive modifications (adding tunnel, removing tunnel, reprofiling, removing a hill, adding brakes...but all have had substantial train modifications to add seatbelts).

I'm going to have to venture over there in August with my little beasties.

I don't remember fairly odd ever have a hill removed, I do know that they took out the tunnel when the rethemed it from beastie to fairly odd which to this day I still think is fairly odd. That was the worst thing I had to do when I was working with Creative Environs, I felt like I was going to fall thru the roof for the photo booth.

The final hill right before the brake run into the station was removed. It was located immediately adjacent to the queue for Jimmy Neutron`s Atom Smashers. Now, instead of the last drop, there is a prolonged and gradual incline up into the brake run.

It must have had some airtime on that hill...like a few that come before it on that coaster. Did I mention that I'm also a Beastie fan from the back seat? It's much better with no trim...couldn't resist.

Anyway, Teddy Bear at Stricker's was based off Teddy Bear from Coney Island, but actually isn't the full 40' tall. Tornado on the other hand is 55' and provides a fabulous ride that puts many coasters larger than itself to shame. The aforementioned airhill is around the middle of the ride and is best experienced from the back seat with a loose seatbelt...and I highly doubt that it is illegal, but remains a very fun spot on the ride.

I've never been to Stricker's Grove. It's a shame that it's only open to the public several days out of the year.

The day we went, May 30th, it costs $10 a person and this included all the ice cream, snow cones, popcorn and soda you could eat/drink. Plus they fed us an all you can eat grill out lunch of burgers and hot dogs. The best deal EVER if you ask me!

And it hasn't been all that long ago that Strickers Grove was not open to the public. Enthusiasts were sometimes allowed to ride Tornado, if they asked Ralph very, very nicely. Some all but demanded to ride, and were turned away! Ralph was a gem, and he is missed.

Now and then, the park's primary business was and is company picnics, and they handle them very well.
