flightoffear1996 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Has anyone noticed the new Diamondback Roar! When the ride first opened I was very dissapointed that it didnt have that mean B&M roar. I went to the park last week and tonight reminded me to post it. Have you heard the Diamondback roar. Im not sure if cause its broken in now or the park changed something but I like it. Quote

goofywdw Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 ^I just noticed how loud the roar was today! I got back from Cedar Point last night and loved how you could hear Mantis and Raptor from so far away. I was working today and as I walked back on break I really noticed how loud it was. I thought it was because of my trip to Cedar Point and hearing the other B&Ms there but maybe not. Quote

Beast1979 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I remember when the ride first opened everyone was looking high and low for the B&M Roar, but couldn't find it. When I went on Thursday, we were going through Rivertown and I heard it! The train flew down the first drop and Diamondback ROARED! I jumped for joy! I don't know what took it so long, but the snake's finally starting to man up and roar like a big boy Beemer. Gosh, it's so nice to hear that beautiful sound at Kings Island. Maybe some more....... Almost all nouns are either feminine or masculine, unlike in the English language. And the translation for Diamondback into Spanish is "espalda diamantada" or "Back Diamond." Since both words end in an a, they are both feminine. Hence, it would be appropriate to refer to Diamondback as a she if going by that standard. But to each their own I suppose. Quote

KIfan1980 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I also remember the roar you could hear during testing and earlier in the season, but agree with folks that something is different now. I think the roar is a much deeper and more distinctive sound that can be heard more places in the park. I can't believe anything on the ride has changed (except for initial wear-in) to cause this, so would have to assume there is an environmental change (perhaps the cool temps we had after the heat up combined with summer humidity levels - although I really have no idea) Quote

KIBOB Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I also have noticed the deeper roar, before it seemed to just make a loud, rattling swoosh down the first drop. It is the second most distinct sound in the park, after the loud rachet that sob makes/made going up its hill. SoB sounds like a diesel engine thats about to blow! Quote

I was at KI this past Tuesday and as soon as I got out of the car I heard that roar too ... I'm happy to know it wasn't just me that noticed it! On the way to the entrance I was trying to explain to my friends how some B&Ms have sand in the tracks to quiet them down ... they didn't seem nearly as interested in that as I was. :-) Tuesday was also my first time in row 2 of DB ... unforgettable!!! Anyone have any idea why the sound seems to have changed? DB is my first B&M and I've heard a lot about that wonderful sound but this is the first time I've actually heard it. Quote

I thought it was louder during the day on Thursday as well, and when we were riding on Thursday I did notice that the wheels were starting to get worn in. I assumed that was the reason for the louder roar. Like a new set of brakes, as you get them worn in they make more contact with the rotar. I figured with more of the wheel touching the track, it was creating a louder roar. If you are stating it was the same after a new set of wheels added, that sort of blows that theory! Quote
