August 3, 200917 yr Could Vortex safely operate with just lapbar?, like the Flight of Fear. lol, cause that would be awesome. HAHA or the does The Bat-wing element not allow it? although Flight of Fear does have a freaky feeling in some of it's dive turns as you hang out the side of the car . Awesomeness in a box
August 3, 200917 yr I don't know if it'd be possible or not, but i'd like it. Maybe with lap bars I could actually put my hands in the air on Vortex...
August 3, 200917 yr Would be very interesting with the corkscrews coming out of the MCBR. I would voth OTSR like those on Carolina Cobra. Secure, safe and no headbanging.
August 3, 200917 yr I can't see why not. Lots of Schwarzkopf coasters operate with just lap bars. They have loops and our own FOF has a corkscrew and it uses just lap-bars. Using that logic lap bars are possible but do I think we'll get them? No, I don't barring a complete overhaul of the ride. I don't think CF is willing to put that much money into a 20 year old attraction.
August 3, 200917 yr Would be very interesting with the corkscrews coming out of the MCBR. I would voth OTSR like those on Carolina Cobra. Secure, safe and no headbanging. Yeah I would want the new OTSR design they used on CC. It seems like a greater possibility than lap bars. Vortex would probably be higher up on my list of coasters if it had new more comfortable restraints.
August 3, 200917 yr I hope so- I hate getting my head banged. If they had just lapbars like FOF I'd want to ride it more often.
August 3, 200917 yr I actually have a trick I use to keep my head from getting banged around so much. thinking of the idea of just lapbars might sound kind of cool. Then I'm sure there are reasons why they haven't converted them. This funny I found this post because I was thinking of making a thread about Vortex myself. I was wondering if anybody ever mistakenly put the restraint down to far. I did yesterday, and boy my legs and pelvic area never hurt so much on a ride.
August 3, 200917 yr If you want a ride on Vortex with no headbanging you have to try seat 5-1. After it being touted so much by other KICers I was a bit skeptical if it was really true. I tried and would have to agree 100 percent (hmm... No percent sign on an iPod. Didn't know that) I recommend 5-1 to everyone I go to KI with and have taken other people on it many times.
August 3, 200917 yr 5-1 On Vortex sucks, it's as rough as any other seat. 7-1 Is the absolute best seat. You get amazing floater air on the main drop, and a smooth ride. Anyways, I doubt Vortex will get new restraints ever. Sadly I could see it being removed in 15-20 Years.
August 3, 200917 yr I feel the same way, there isn't anything "omfg wow" with seat 5-1 as all you say. 7-1 is the way to go!
August 3, 200917 yr I feel the same way, there isn't anything "omfg wow" with seat 5-1 as all you say. 7-1 is the way to go! I honestly prefer 1-1. I like the wind in my face.
August 4, 200917 yr By all means, those of you who love other seats on Vortex, please, please, please ride there. I just wish 5-1 weren't logistically in a place that much of the public immediately gravitates to. Many times, both 7-1 and even 1-1 have shorter lines. Sigh.
August 4, 200917 yr Just as railrider said, i think that the part of the ride where just a lap bar might have problems would be the corkscrews coming off the MCBR before the batwing. The cars coast rather slowly through those and there might not be enough centrifugal force for a lap bar to work safely.
August 4, 200917 yr I think the lap bar on FoF is more comfortable for sure, but like others have said, you go a lot faster through the inversions on FoF, and the restraints probably aren't needed as much as they are in the corkscrew on Vortex.
August 4, 200917 yr No, I don't a lap bar would be safe - on the corkscrews, they go too slow - it would give you too much airtime, and for me (very skinny), that would freak me out.
August 4, 200917 yr Gah, Vortex and Corkscrew are the worst roller coasters I've ever ridden. Anyway, I don't think it would work with just a lapbar...
August 4, 200917 yr Honestly, I think a lapbar like on the Premier trains of Flight of Fear might just do the trick. However, I don't think the lapbars like those on inverting Schwarzkopf coasters would. The ones for Greezed Lightnin' would make me SUPER nervous if they were on Vortex. For the record, I think 4-1 is the magical row on Vortex. I only experienced head banging once in that row and that was going into the brake run right before the corkscrews.
August 4, 200917 yr I would love to see Vortex with lap bars. The rides would be less rough and more room to move your body.

Honestly, I dont see a difference in any of the seats on Vortex, except for maybe the fron tand the back. haha. And, JustinM17, you said you liked the wind in your face.......what about your awesome pink hair?! hahha.
August 5, 200917 yr I would love to see Vortex with lap bars. The rides would be less rough and more room to move your body. And you would gain the ability to touch the other side of the loops. Vortex should get lap bars. And keep the OTSRs, obviously talking sarcastically. It would be more thrilling, in my opinion, and may be less rough. But do I think Cedar Fair would REALLY put in lapbars? Maybe.

Maybe. speaking of touching loops, LOL. when you go up high into the structure on Flight of Fear, i wonder? could put your arms to side, (like you had wings) and grab the support beams, LOL or on The Beast helix tunnel too. lol funny but scary stuff the g-forces at certain points slow your body movement, so you wouldn't be able to draw your arms back quick enough ,LOL that almost happened to me coming out of the pretzel turn around on magnum at Cedar Point. i said (I can fly!!!) then i saw the beam coming, I was so scared. my arms felt so heavy
August 5, 200917 yr I am not swearing to it but I think I did touch the tunnel on The Beast. I felt something slam my hand back and i looked and my finger was black and blue.

LOL maybe it was "The Beast!". it strikes again those night rides through those long silent curves are creepy, feels like your being watched
August 5, 200917 yr How about just get the new restrains? Like the one on Carolina Cobra? That makes more sense.
August 5, 200917 yr How about just get the new restrains? Like the one on Carolina Cobra? That makes more sense. I have never rode Carolina Cobra but I have seen pictures of the restraints. They don't look that comfortable. Are they?
