StalkerChick
this kinda worries me.. is it just Carowinds? I got my PP from there and am hoping i dont have problems up here. But i did get in both days there with no problems, even if they had to manually type mine in cuz their scanners werent working
The Interpreter
The fact their scanners were not working is why you had no problem, I bet. I had no issues on day 1. Day 2 they flat out accused me of having already been in the park. At 9:05 a.m. Not only are they not customer service minded, they don't think too much either... CoastersRZ
I wasn`t as lucky. Pass worked fine at Carowinds opening day, and did not work at all the second day. Spent ten minutes at admissions services. I did eventually get in, unlike some people who chose to leave...
The Interpreter
...after 20 minutes of bumbling, no apologies and being all but called a lying thief. Life is too short...I can always find nice things to do down there.
Beast Man
Cedar Fair really needs to get their act together with the platinum passes. On Friday at Kings Dominion everyone with a Kings Island PP would not scan.No red x came up.Just a blank area on the screen where the picture is.A manager just waived us in because we were trying to get to the ert on I-305.On Saturday at Carowinds the passes did not scan again.A manager came over and took our passes, wnet over to guest relations and  few minutes later came back with tickets for us.It had "King's Island Platinum Walk-In" printed on it.(Yes it had the apostrophe on it.)Someone in our group mentioned it was as if they expected this type of thing to happen. We also had an issue with the re-entry hand stamps at Carowinds. They had the logo for Ricochet on them.We showed the attendant our stamps and were promptly told that those were not the stamps being used for today. We told them that it was indeed the stamp and I was going to show my ticket that I received earlier.A manager came over and told the attendant that those were the stamps being used and we walked right in.But I did think that the employees were polite.I don't remember if we got an apology for our trouble(probably not). But I didn't get a feeling of rudeness. StalkerChick
thats just crazy to hear about the ppl there b/c on opening weekend it was the ppl at carowinds that did ir for me! everyone was nice and polite as all heck and went out of their way to say hi and ask us if we were enjoying our time. even guest relations were nice to us when we went to write down a few compliments and even with the whole lap bar situation. i guess not all good things can last
The Interpreter
I wonder how much later after 9:05 a.m. Beast Man was at Carowinds that Saturday. They'd already had a chance to bumble around and not let in another Kings Island guest with a Platinum Pass. Perhaps by then they had gotten a clue? The Interpreter
I was long gone by then. I honestly believe many people would have reacted in a less than civil fashion when confronted with the type of attitude I got there last week. I expect more from Cedar Fair. Especially when I bought something called a Platinum Pass for upwards of $145....
Captain Picard
I bought six Platinum Passes and they better have the gate open when I get there. I was thinking about not buying at all the last two years and a getting some attitude will end my Platinum Pass buying.
GrandsonofBeast
Since I will be processing my Cedar Point Platinum Passes at Kings Island the day I go, I shouldn't have any problem getting into Kings Island right? The real problem will be when I get back home and go to Cedar Point?

If you haven't bought it yet, buy it at KI and get it processed there if you're going before CP

Basically converting the CP Platinum Pass vouchers into Kings Island Platinum Passes that would in turn work at Cedar Point anyways.

They have a barcode on them. So I just take them and my drivers license to Kings Island to process right??? I'm nervous now I'm going to get there (4 hours away) and be screwed... Ohiocoasterman
I was wondering what the 2010 platinum pass looks like? Does anyone have a picture?
XGatorHead 8904
A topic that is close to my heart, since I spent 10 years in Admissions at KI (back in the Paramount days). Those problems that people experienced at Carowinds are pretty unexcusable. Sure, technical problems happen, I've seen many of them and have had to deal with thousands of guests with issues. But if one is there at 9:05, and the park opened at 9:00, they should have had the good sense to not accuse that person of already being in the park. Gate Central has the ability to see when a pass is swiped and where and by whom... or at least it did as of 2004, which was my last year of using it, and I don't see any sane reason why they would have gotten rid of that feature. This feature wouldn't have been available at the turnstile, but just a quick trip to the computer in the office and the person dealing with the issue could have seen if it was swiped or not. It sounds like by the time Beast Man got there, they realized they had a problem. But when Terpy was there, it sounds like they definitely could have handled the situation much better. There was always a lot of quick thinking involved in Admissions. Whenever we ran into a problem, we'd have to move quickly to find a solution. We tried to make sure that our supervisors were empowered to make decisions on their own, and if they had an issue they could not readily find a solution to, a manager was either close by or a quick phone call away. Of course, this was at PKI, so I cannot speak for Carowinds under CF. The re-entry ink is another issue. I was very disappointed with the stuff KI used last year. The first time they put that on me, I washed my hands and it almost completely disappeared. After that, I made sure to not get the handstamp wet at all. Sure, the UV reactive ink we used when I was there was fairly expensive, but IT WORKED!... and it stayed on! At one time we tried a less expensive UV ink, but it was nowhere near as good and we quickly went back to our original brand. Hopefully KI comes back to their senses and goes back to the UV ink! frisbeefan
I was wondering what the 2010 platinum pass looks like? Does anyone have a picture? There is a picture of it here. This is what my pass looks like, however when people in my family processed their pass there's was the old style with Delirium on it. Coney Islander
Bluntly and matter of factly telling the customer that he is incorrect and that he has already entered the park and cannot re-enter...by three different employees. Let me see if I've got this correct... You may not reenter a Cedar Fair Park without a hand stamp, even if you have a season/ platinum pass? That policy makes no sense... I've just got to say Coney Island's customer service is wonderful, compared to the Cedar Fair parks. Multiple times last season, I (and friends, family, etc.) have decided to go to Coney Island on the spur of the moment. Even if you leave your pass at home, Coney Island guest relations can give you a placeholder pass that works for the day...
mtl2013
the handstamp policy has been there for as long as i hav ebeen alive. IMO i think its fine. and at KI, you can get in the park if you forget or lose your pass, but you can only do it up to three times. Thats just the rule.
Coney Islander
If Cedar Fair passes still had years and photos on them, this would not have happened. And who decided not to put that information on the pass but only in a computer system that doesn't seem to function all that well? Cedar Fair...of course. I feel the same way about school... Some Cincinnati school board has decided to start using this horrible online grading program, called "Power School." My grades are almost always incorrect, it takes teachers hours to put grades in, and the site is down almost half of the time... And from what I've heard, the City of Cincinnati spent over 2 Million dollars for it. Last year, we had a different program, 'Parent Connect', and there were never any problems... It markets itself that you can get into the park as many times as you desire during the regular season... What would the point of the 'Hand Stamp' policy, besides provoking the customer...? And its good to hear Kings Island has the same 'forget your pass' policy. (Coney Island tacked on the '3 times' rule last year, which I can understand.) Coney Islander
All I can say is that many of these Cincinnati School boards do not think... My sister goes to Mt. Washington Elementary School, and the school board recently banned wearing clothes with Zippers, and Hoodies to school... This cost my family over $100, as my sister had to give away and replace most of her clothing. Mt. Washington School is in a poor neighborhood, so many of these families could not afford buying new clothes for their children. The children whose parents refused to have their kids follow the new 'dress code' got suspended, thus losing valuable learning time.
Oldiesmann
The crappy online grades system costing $2 million sounds about typical for Cincinnati - spend a ton of money on something that doesn't work very well. If they really cared, they'd invest in Blackboard. I'm not sure how their K-12 systems are, but the college one is pretty good and the professors (teachers) have a lot of control. If that's too expensive, there's always Moodle (which is completely free).
jrstacy98
Terpy, That's terrible what happened to you. I have had the good fortune to be able to visit most of the Cedar Fair parks, I've had a couple cases of having to wait for a ticket to be printed up so I could get in (MA and CGA), and at Knott's I was actually just waived in by an older gentleman who saw my pass (he didn't scan it). I'm always a little nervous at a new park, and in the end, if they tell you 'No' what can you really do? 20 minutes seems a fair amount of time to wait - I prolly would've stayed all day just to make my point and I've been known to be a little stubborn. I hope you do contact Carowinds and explain the situation, how you were treated, and that you'd like an apology. Assuming you have a KI pass I'd make sure they know how their customers are treated at a different park and find out who to share that information with at Cedar Fair proper. Hopefully they will do the right thing and make it up to you somehow. -John
