Diamondback Roar

Diamondback has never had much of a roar compared to other B&M coasters. At other parks you could hear a B&M running from just about any corner of the park. At KI you often couldn't hear if even if you were underneath the ride.

I respectfully disagree. I could hear it as soon as I was out of my car and throughout the park last summer. I missed it yesterday!

All B&M's have hallow spines and the vibration of the ride makes a roaring sound which is where the noise comes from, some parks request for the spine to filled with some type of sand or substance that waves out the sound. Diamondback has never really be very loud, although it still does make that roaring sound there are many B&M's about 10x as loud.

Acually at the beginning of the season last year, DB was very quiet compared to other B and M's, then later in the summer it had the normal loud noise like Raptor and Mantis, then it quieted down later in the season-yesterday the ride was quiet. I think but I am not sure that it might have something to do with the park changing the wheels periodically.

It has nothing at all to do with wheels. There are wheels on the trains that have never been changed and there are wheels that were changed a week ago. There is no say how long wheels can last. They can either last for years or last for a few months. If there is not a reason too change the wheels they won't change them.

Could you get a different roar from a different type of wheel? Does B & M even offer more than one type of wheel for their trains?

I believe most steel coasters use polyurethane wheels. They usually last longer.

The roar really does depend on the weather. Not the wheels.

I can hear it from my house on certain days when the conditions are favorable which is about 2 miles due east.

I think the sound your looking for is the pitch of the bearings as it runs the rails; and it was definitely not there on opening day. It was a flat sound at that as it went all day, sounded like any other coaster. Hopefully it will be back as it warms up.

i heard it a little from up on my perch. not NEAR as roar-ish but there was something coming from DB (and yes I'm sure it was DB lol)

I think it's a wheel thing I believe when DB opened it had break in wheel nylon (harder louder faster) as the ride bearings break in the ride gets faster so to slow it down they change to polyurethane (softer quieter slower ) they left one set on the sound was awesome but rumor has it complaints from the neighbors caused them to go all polyurethane for the quiet sounds just a guess :)?

Welcome!

The ride has ALWAYS have had polyurethane wheels. EDIT: Sorry but the ride also has nylon wheels with it too. It's been awhile since I saw that and forgot.

Mentioned by Brian Kosmac in this video...

I believe this was before opening day. It has been mentioned a few times earlier in this topic that the weather does effect the roar.
