Kentucky Kingdom

Featured Replies

Capacity: 800 people per hour...

That's truthfully about what The Beast gets at Kings Island nowadays.

Now is that on average for the day or is that during one hour when they are queued back all the way out?

Yesterday while I was outside of the fence the site leader from RMC came out and gave us stickers and talked about the industry. That really made my day! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using Tapatalk

  • Back to the topic at hand... I got sneaky and took some pics while at the Fairgrounds this weekend... Enjoy!

  • Guys I received a large surprise from the Kingdom today. I learned I was being promoted to be in charge of the operation of the Thunder Zone. Apparently I have really impressed in the last few months

......According to Kentucky Kingdom's Facebook page, construction on Lightning Run will begin in early January......

Wow, that's a hideous billboard. FinkHeavy really wasn't the best font choice there, and it looks so blank.

Not a great first impression....Lacks imaginatiion!

You have to remember, this is a new park, with a limited budget. I find the sign just right for the public eye and for signage reasons. (If you have an issue with the ride, then you may need to tone down your expectations) (Welcome to KIC {Insert KIC slogan})

Look I get there are limited funds.....a quick fix would have been to a least put the park's proper logo on it.

Besides Ed Hart is in the movie business, producing 12 movies in his career. I'd expect a little more from the billboard.

I think the billboard looks just fine, but thats my opinion...

They're not anything fancy, but they do get the message across. I'm so excited for Kentucky Kingdom to open and Banshee at KI! Spring needs to hurry up!

Isn't there some sort of out of state attendance figure that has to be met as well? If I didn't follow the industry like I do I wouldn't even have known KK was reopening (I live in Indy).

Yes, but Indiana is right across the river.

I assume the park will have to ask for zip codes when selling tickets, not just season passes.

A friend of mine that lives in Indy (I live in Greenfield) called a week or two ago and asked if I had heard Kentucky Kingdom was reopening. She doesn't follow park news at all, so the word is getting out slowly.

I have yet to hear a news link or commercial in cincinnati or Dayton. We may be just a bit outside te market but during Flag days I remember seeing a bunch of commercials

I think it's still too early. Need to hype it the last two months for everywhere within a 2 hour drive. I suspect the advertising budget is small, so hyping it now, would not last into spring when things warm up & amusement parks start coming to mind.

But a poorly planned announcement of a major attraction and little to no advertising has not helped spur season pass sales I am sure. Which is one of the reasons that pass prices have not been raised and are slated to stay at bargain bin prices for the foreseeable future.

I think a marketing team putting way too much reliance on social media is a big part of the problem. Social media is trendy. It's what the cool kids do (so the old marketers think).

It should be additive to, not a substitute for, other marketing.

Here it has one huge advantage. It's cheap.

I agree, and I believe that one of the biggest problems with the Kingdom right now is the way that they are marketing........Or not marketing......

It would be great if the fair board would sell season passes for parking.

They did in the past, by the month. If memory serves, the cost was atrocious. In 1998, I went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom 33 times. A parking pass would NOT have saved me money. In fact, it would have cost more.

Maybe the Kingdom could build a new gate/ with a parking structure of its own in the future, but all that land around them controlled by the state fair board:

Has anyone read anywhere what the park will be like during the KY state Fair? I understand the rides are free for the ky kingdom pass holder:

Parking is part of the contract with the Fair Board. Kentucky Kingdom CANNOT provide its own parking. Mr. Hart tried to get the Fair Board to provide parking or let the park charge for it. The Fair Board adamantly refused.

It isn't all about the resources though. It is the decisions. Announcing the new attractions at 11pm for example.

Haha for coaster enthusiasts you guys seem so cranky! Just relax and let them worry about their issues, just sit back and enjoy the ride! I'm sure they know what they're doing.

As an industry enthusiast I am banging my head against the wall when I watch a park like Hard Rock Park and now the New Kentucky Kingdom follow a path that has been proven over and over to fail within this industry. That is why myself and so many others may seem cranky or pessimistic about their future and the decisions they have or have not made.

Ok, well I can understand that, but you have to understand the two situations are very different. Hard Rock Park's location was not very fit for an Amusement park, the tourist build up within that area was already quite high, plus with the beach being so close there wasn't really a huge desire for people to even want to go to an amusement park. Kentucky Kingdom on the other hand has a much better set up. It's not within direct vicinity of major tourists spots, but there is enough draw that will keep the city's local attractions attendance up, without creating a bitter rivalry among each other, which is what Hard Rock Park had to deal with. Plus with Louisville being named 1 out of the world's top 20 travel destinations, I feel that Kentucky Kingdom has a much better chance of success.

Buuuuut, that's just a simple Igor's opinion...The fact that the park has made it back from where it was just a year ago, to me, is quite incredible itself!

And just how has it done that? The full faith and credit of the Kentucky taxpayer. 2014 looks to be fine. It's 2015 and onward that this plan doesn't look even remotely workable.

And I beg to differ with you. Hard Rock Park had a superior location to Kentucky Kingdom. To claim a park is in a location where it doesn't have to deal with substantial competition is to overlook the problems with Kentucky Kingdom's location that contributed to the park's past failures.

Location...Location...Location...

The failure of both parks can be traced to the root problem of not dealing with the issues presented by their location.

How many times has Kentucky Kingdom failed and have those root issues been dealt with?

How does 2015 and 2016 look to be downward? Unlike Hard Rock Park, Kentucky Kingdom has already set in stone improvements to the park that will be made. Both T2 and Twisted Twins will be returning better than ever. Hard Rock Park opened, but never showed signs of progressing, they were just trying to get by with what they had.
