KI Guy
Whoever is responsible, I'm glad for it. I had given up on going this year until I saw the changes. For the foreseeable future I think the waterpark is its lifeblood, if it stays open.
The Interpreter
Oh, my. During the Fair, only the dry park is open. Hours are: Aug 14-24: M-F 4-9 Sat, Sun 1-9 41 hours a week? Really? After the fair, the park is not open past 7 at all. Really?

The Interpreter
Kings Island. And the year is 2014. Mr. Hart trying to run Kentucky Kingdom like it's 1998 is much of the problem. It isn't.

stashua123
KK is not going to survive. It's a shame, really. How do you know it is not going to? Its in a better situation than Americana was in 2001 and SFKK was 2006-2010. While it is still doubtful I think it will survive for a little bit. Even if people flock to Holiday World next year there are so many people in the Louisville area that would visit KK due to its closer proximity. Yes KK does need to up their game but I would not say it cannot survive.
shark6495
With all due respect how is KK in any better situation than Americana/LL was in 2000? Americana experienced a slow but steady death from about 1990 till 2003. KK was killed and left to rot for a few years before Hart showed up to give it CPR. Americana gave it a go but the owner saw the writing on the wall and didn't want to see his money go nowhere. Hart is playing with other people'a money and we are only in year 1. What happens in years 2-5 will tell if this is a successful venture. Americana at least owned the land it sat on. What would you consider a success for KK? I would say if/when it makes it to year 5 we can say the gamble worked. Year 10 we can say it was a huge success.... Anything less than 5 I would think has to be considered a failure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AintNutinElse2Do
Dream scenario Kentucky Kingdom is the first to install the S&S Free Spin. The advertising potential to take focus away from Holiday World could be there. I imagine a commercial leading to the line "wait theirs doesn't do that. " I love Holiday World but I could definitely appreciate a stronger competition. I hope the park thrives and as long as the gates are open it has a chance.
BB1
Staffing issues or park security/safety? I would think that the LifeGuards are going to be transferred to be security for KSF. Maybe, maybe not.

Dieseltech20
The shorter hours are most likely due to the fact that the majority of their work force returns to school soon.
jcgoble3
...except the hours will only be shortened on Saturdays, when most teens would prefer to sleep in the next day anyway. The already short Sunday hours will remain the same through the end of the season.
The Interpreter
Really? The park has not opened til 4 Monday through Friday before now? A part of a State Fair midway...and it opens at 4.
jcgoble3
I was referring to fall season hours. A fair midway not opening until late afternoon does not seem unusual to me. My local county fair two weeks ago did not open rides until 4pm Monday through Thursday. I assume that past attendance figures show that the majority of attendance is in the evening and it's not worth opening until then.
The Interpreter
I wonder what time the carnival midway will open...as there is both Kentucky Kingdom AND the carnival.
The Interpreter
I did some checking. When Kentucky Kingdom opens at 4 weekdays during the fair, the carnival midway opens at 2. Interesting. VERY interesting.
jcgoble3
I wonder is not opening until 4 was a restriction imposed by the Fair Board, so as to give the carnival midway a couple hours to operate by itself and thus not take away too much of its business?
upstop
I wonder if the fairboard is dictating the operational hours to the park so that the potential park guests aren't distracted to spending dollars at the fair. edit: great minds think alike...LOL

Not a bad idea, however, if thats the truth, then that puts KK in a very bad deal.
The Interpreter
And explains a $9.99 admission to the Kingdom. Note also that this year the fence between the midway and the Kingdom, which had always been removed for the fair, won't be.
jcgoble3
From the park's Facebook, posted here without comment: Oops…..we messed up! Those late afternoon storms, that crossed over the park Monday, presented management with a reason to consider closing the park an hour earlier. Due to internal miscommunication and confusion, we did close the park at 6pm verses 7pm Monday night. Little did we know that the skies would clear and the sun would shine again. For those that may have been inconvenienced, you have our heartfelt apology. Moving forward, management has adopted the policy of honoring the posted hours. We look forward to seeing you again. The Interpreter
I wonder if that policy will prevail if, say, it storms and all the guests leave the park but for 17 of them.
shark6495
One of the best pieces of advice I have heard was this: Don't put it in writing. You can say it but the moment you have it written down people can call you out on it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
