The city's firefighters were called to the park at about 9:30 p.m. because the amusement park's own firefighters were not there. As dry as it is, thats a real concern. Yes, that makes me think twice as well. I'm not a fan of indoor attractions either-i.e.boo blasters-I want to be able to get out if need be. It is also probably why there is an entire day of training at Haunt rehearsals about how to handle a situation if there is a fire in your attraction. It is made worse by how tasteless and uncaring the park seems to be about the entire thing. Even having a virtual reality game titled Castle Escape. Each year around this time, I usually make some reference to this tragic event...as sad as it is, those who do not remember history are sometimes doomed to repeat it. In Kentucky, there was the truly tragic Beverly Hills Supper Club fire...in the park industry in relatively recent years, this fire at Great Adventure is among the worst of incidents... On a side note, whats up with this bogus Wikipedia stat: It was constructed using 1.7 million board feet (4,000 m³) of treated Southern Yellow Pine, and if stacked one in front of the other could span the US from Washington DC to Sacramento just over three times. While that is a ton of wood (roughly 321 miles, if measured as board-foot = 12" x 1"), its nowhere near the 7,000+ miles stated in the article.. Of which has already happened before here at our very own park back in 2004. Some idiot guest lit a cigarette lighter in an attempt to manuever their way through ToT and lit up a massive chunk of burlap starting a fire. Thankfully, no one got hurt, and the portion of the maze in question, dubbed the Burlap Cave, was removed. The cage-like structure with all of the random junk inside (refrigerators, hubcaps, washing machines, etc) is where said Cave originally stood. While I know you weren't really saying it was a ton (measure of weight) of wood - your comment did make me want to calculate how much the wood actually weighs. My calculation shows: 4000 cubic meters at 660 kg/cubic meter (~ southern yellow pine density) = 2,640,000 Kg = 5,820,204 Lbs = 2,910 tons.
