WhoDeyForever
So I was riding Beast about to go up the hill and I was responding to a text message .. All of a sudden I hear out of the speaker from a ride op to put my phone away..I promptly put my phone away as soon as I heard..All of a sudden, the car stops at the beginning of the first hill and the guy walks out to grab my phone from me. He asked me rudely to give him my phone. I told him I had no idea that it was a rule and I put it away as soon as I heard. He then wanted to cop a little attitude and yell for the phone saying it is Ohio law to be using a cell phone during the ride and if I didn't give him the phone he was going to get security and kick me out of the park. I then proceeded to give him my phone because I wasn't going to get involved with something so stupid like that. For an employee to be so rude to a guest is unacceptable. After the ride was over, there was a security guard waiting for me..He said because it's private property, the employees choose who stays and who goes regardless and they can't control what their employees do. MAKES SENSE RIGHT? (sarcasm) Anybody ever had a problem like this before? Never had a problem with a phone on a ride or an employee in general. The Interpreter
Loose articles are not permitted on the rides. They can easily become flying objects and injure others. Some years back, a guest was seriously injured at Geauga Lake by either a cell phone or very large rocks.
afkifan
I don't know about the rules/laws etc when it comes to them taking the phone away. I could see verifying that it is secure though. I will say this... I was sitting behind someone TALKING on the phone on Adventure Express yesterday. I kind of wish they had taken his phone away. The Interpreter
What's very rude? Having a cellphone out where it can injure someone? I agree. The ride op? I do NOT agree. Customer safety is paramount at Cedar Fair.
TombRaiderFTW
The ride op might have been nicer about it, but honestly, I'd much rather he ruin your day than have your phone ruin someone else's. Even if you might have felt that it wasn't going to go anywhere, accidents happen. TombRaiderFTW, who can explain in great detail the usefulness of the zipper pouches on a nearby crypt... LongliveKingsCobra
You couldn't wait till you got off the ride to respond?? Interesting.... I fully back the ride-op. Even if he was rude I'd be ****ed too if I had to leave, walk up the track and get a phone from someone that had it out....that is justifiable...you having the cell phone out...not. 5 years ago I was on Magnum XL some jackass had his lighter out...we were half way up the hill....the ride stops a ride op comes walking up the stairs takes the lighter and walks back down....the park police escorted the kid off the loading platform after the ride, and took him out of the park... CedarPointer
Don't act like you wouldn't raise hell if you got hit by a phone on a ride because some valued customer decided that they needed to respond to a text message on the ride. Just because you pay to get into the park doesn't mean that you are free to do whatever you want, especially ignore the POSTED WARNINGS.
LongliveKingsCobra
Which isn't that, in the stat of Ohio a crime? I thought Terpy said that once....
markr
WhoDeyForever, with all due respect, how would you have felt if someone, perhaps someone's child, got seriously hurt if that cel phone had flown out of your hand while you were riding? At Geagua lake, for example, a woman's skull was fractured as a result of a cel phone falling out of a rider's hands on The Villain. The rules against cel phones are posted. I am not condoning rudeness by the ride attendant but I have experienced first hand other riders showing absolutely no regard for my safety by doing anything from taking photos to smoking while riding. PKIVortex
Im sorry if this is going to sound rude, but it should have been common sense that you weren't allowed to use your phone while on the ride.

bkroz
So let me get this straight... You truly thought you were allowed to text message on a roller coaster? I mean... Really? I'm sorry, but the fact that anyone may think that at ALL is absolutely absurd. I always thought it was a joke that ride operators need to take the PA system in the station to announce that cell phones are not allowed on rides. I suppose you've proven that they do it for a reason - there really are some people dense enough to try it. Even if you didn't know it was strictly against the rules, did you think it was a SMART idea? Claim you didn't know it was forbidden if you must, but to act like you couldn't have come to the conclusion that it's a poor decision by yourself? Be realistic. KIfan73
When I read the title to this thread, I assumed it meant that the original poster couldn't believe someone was talking on a cell phone on a ride...

pkiboy
That Crap wont Fly at Cedar Point I cant tell you how many times I get stoped on CPs Coasters because people cant seem to put there phones away!! Thats the same as Texting wile driving the messege can wait!! Kings Island doenst follow this policy as strict as they should not that hard to turn off the lift and go up and get the phone If the magnum crew can climb a lift hill to get a cell phone than The Beast and racer crew can do the same!! but the excuse I hear all the time is we cant catch every one on there phones!! I didn't even keep my cellphone in my pocket while there. I left in a locker because I was worried it would fly out of my pocket. I didn't use the bins by the rides because I would have probably forgotten to pick it up after the ride. Never mind actually using it on the coaster. I didn't want my phone to end up in the Diamondback bin! Still, texting on the lift hill? Seriously, why? Is it so important to respond to a text that you can't wait a few minutes for the ride to be done before replying??? If you don't respond, will your girlfriend dump you or will you spontaneously combust or something? Sorry, but given the circumstances, I defend the operators stopping you. sccard01
I remember back in 2007 on Flight of Fear, this guy behind me in line had a basketball. When I got off the ride I went to the On ride video souvenir shop, and once my video clicked off, the guy who was standing behind me video had clicked on. The guy had one hand in the air with this basketball in the same hand while on the ride as it launch from 0 to its max speed.
The Interpreter
Too bad the park didn't have him arrested or at least throw him out. All the evidence it needed was captured in that video. I know for a fact that Hersheypark would have prosecuted.
MarketingExpress
WhoDey, was that text so impotant that you couldn't have waited another 5 minutes to respond to it? You need to realize that your disregard for the rules is what started this whole incident including the reaction from the ride op.
RaptorGuy
Dude, you are lucky you are not in jail for this. Maybe the ride op was harsh, but maybe he wanted to drive the point home that you could've killed someone. I was with MarkR last year on Beast and someone was flicking their Bic and lit a cig. THAT could've killed us. I've seen kids taking pics on Adventure Express, too. Use common sense and ride safely! This is why I wear a fanny pack to keep my phone and camera safe! muppetfan1999
While I don't understand why the operator went up the hill to take your hill even after you had put it away it's still against the law.

jdawg1998
Unfortunately, this has happened twice on The Beast. Once for someone bringing a whole Icee on-ride, AND a cell phone. We were stopped for about five minutes. The other time was for a drink. That's what I don't understand. Someone bringing a drink on the ride? What would they have been thinking? The Interpreter
Years ago, a little girl took a clear plastic glass of lemonade on the SFOG mine train. I ended up wearing it ( I was behind her ). And her mother was FURIOUS. At me. Go figure. I was not amused.
Tanna
My first thought was of that incident that occurred about the time of the Darian Lake Incident, where a passenger's cap flew off and stopped the car short. I don't know what a phone would do, but I wouldn't want to come face to face with one during FOF launch. I'm so possessive of my stuff I couldn't bear the thought of losing my phone on a ride. The rest of the ride I'd be screaming about my precious apps.
MrSaturdayNite
To drive the point home, A backpack fell on California Screamin' on Friday, stopping the ride and forcing an evacuation. Rutgerskev
Hopefully Whodey gets the message that it's probably not a good idea to break the law and then complain about it. When I was at the park Saturday I heard a few ride ops talking about phones on both The Beast and Stunt Coaster. Maybe it's a point management has been stressing recently.
