CoastersRZ
Yes, Shockwave's operator booth is very similar to how King Cobra's was set up. As for the color of The Beastie, it remained painted yellow through at least the 1987 season, because I have a picture of me riding it back then when I was terrified of roller coasters. They painted it blu shortly after that.
Gordon Bombay
Assuming it was just like Shockwave's at KD Yes! However, I believe the station itself was designed differently.
FOF1996
^^ Hate those restraints! I honestly can't remember KC and I've been to the park every year since I was 5...Oops!
Delirium13
I always read that Shockwave is an uncomfortable ride experience, but I always remembered King Cobra as being a good time and don't remember it being rough, then again I was much younger when I rode it. Those of you who have ridden both, am I remembering this correctly?
The Interpreter
I have never found either King Cobra or KD's Shockwave to be rough. In fact, other than Georgia Scorcher, I have always thought the Togo's were by far the best stand-ups.
rcs
In regards to that Beastie pick from 1980, I thought it was still the Scooby Doo coaster back then. I rode it that year and I am pretty sure it was the Scooby then.
The Interpreter
Scooby Doo's last year was 1979. And Beastie was indeed still yellow when it debuted.

diamondhawk
Great picture!!! Love the discover new thrills at P.K.I. in 2002. I don't think they ever expected what was going to happen to poor TR:TR.
The Interpreter
(Just as those who planned a gargantuan looping wooden coaster never suspected what was to become of it....)
kjkjkj
I miss all the trees in Rivertown. They should just remove The Crypt and put a pond back in, and a log flume
jandyb79
I have never found either King Cobra or KD's Shockwave to be rough. In fact, other than Georgia Scorcher, I have always thought the Togo's were by far the best stand-ups. I never really had a problem with it either (other than the abrupt braking strip hault at the end). My buddies and I used a trick to lower the "bicycle seat" part of the restraint to avoid any mishaps to the lower region. If the seat sat too high the ups and downs could prove quite painful...if you ya know what I mean ~Josh
TOPGUN1993
Airtime on a stand up = bad news... our group learned that on shockwave this summer.
Vortex
Love seeing all the old pictures. The sign from The Beastie was taken at Kings Island during 1980 or 1981.
XGatorHead 8904
As for the photo Vortex posted from 1980, are you sure that's our Beastie? I remember ours having the sign from above right until it closed. That is from our Beastie. I remember that sign being there when I was a kid. 1980 was the first year I rode The Beast ( I was too short in '79) and I thought it was cool that The Beastie had a similar logo, with younger looking claws. DeLorean Rider
Cool shot! I do miss King Cobra. To me, every time I've ridden Shockwave it's been a very unenjoyable ride. Though I haven't ridden it myself, I've been told by many that Skyrider at Canada's Wonderland is much more enjoyable, similar to how King Cobra was. Delirium13
Ah if only that area looked as good today, I really miss that ride, Rivertown would make a whole lot more sense today if it was still around. Thanks for the pictures. Edit - Not sure if this has been posted here before, but I did a quick Google search for Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal after seeing that pictured and found this video of some great raw footage from 1997, amazing how much has changed since then.
