The Interpreter Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 For whatever reason, we are again being hit by a multitude of spam posts. Some hints: 1. Never, ever click on any link in a spam post. It just may download a free gift...a virus. And yes, you may have anti-virus programming, but someone has to be the first victim. Don't let it be you. 2. Don't reply. It just makes the spam newer and subjects it to more users. And often, the user is a robot. Even if it isn't, the user couldn't care less about you or your opinions. 3. Report the post to the mods, using the report button in the nonmobile version. Terp, not a spammer! 1 Quote
standbyme Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Don't reply....the user couldn't care less about you or your opinions. That's disheartening...does that mean that they really don't care about my partner's satisfaction? 5 Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 These things make me less likey to buy thier product since they annoying me so much. Quote
CedarPointer Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 1. Never, ever click on any link in a spam post. It just may download a free gift...a virus. And yes, you may have anti-virus programming, but someone has to be the first victim. Don't let it be you. But the offer of cheap online meds was just so exciting! How could Viagra4U5695 be anything but reputable? Quote
thunderbeast1968 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I am Thunderbeast1968, there is a spam on my topic of trip tips to Six Flags over Georgia. Please don't click on the spam. It is a virus, and will destroy your computer. I wish there was a way to rid and delete this crap. Please be careful. Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 There is. A mod will get it. Earlier, there was much, much more. Read post 1 above. Quote
thunderbeast1968 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I noticed, thanks for the information. Is there a way to delete the account of someone (or thing) that is putting this junk on the websight? Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Yes. The mod will do that as well. Sadly, the bot will probably just create another. We go through spells like this from time to time. Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It always seems like this happens mainly over the off-season, too. Guess the spambots get bored in the winter, too. 1 Quote
CoastersRZ Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 For those of you who hit the report button over the last several days, thank you! I believe I have quelched all the spammers` posts, topics and suspended the offending accounts. On the behalf of myself and the rest of the KIC staff, I do apologize for the large amount of spam over this past weekend. Again, if you see a post that is spam, simply hit the report button and do NOT reply to it, as it makes cleaning up the forums more challenging. 1 Quote
Thrill_Biscuit Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Why apologize? You guys always do an awesome job (and this community has some real dead-eyed deputies with their quickdraw on the report button, too (yipee ki yay...))! (Some topics can look like spam, but be perfectly fine; like the time someone had a topic about the "Mirth Mobile" on here a few years back. I thought it was spam for a new wireless company (reading the accent on the o instead of the i in the word 'Mobile'). I had forgotten that this was the name of the car on "Wayne's World".) Quote
mccarthysnerd Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I did happen to notice the four spam posts this morning but I was very happy to later discover that they were deleted. Quote
KILateNighter Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I know they are very iritating but, it might be a good idea to introduce C.A.P.T.C.H.A. to KIC before you can become a member, this might be limited as are board software probably don't support it, but if we were to have a redirect on KIC that would have CAPTCHA before you can even access the forums it should cut down or even eliminate the problem. For those who don't know what a CAPTCHA is: It stands for: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. All they are is simply randomly generated distorted text that is requried to be typed in before you can gain access to a page or website, humans can read this text but robots can not. EDIT: After doing some research there is a downloadable Add-On to IP.Board forums on the IP. Board/Invision Power website you can actually find it at: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/2705-login-captcha/ Which would be a great idea to add to the forums as it should cut down on the spam. LongliveKingsCobra Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 at least they are putting it on the Off Topic section... Quote
rotag Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Don't reply....the user couldn't care less about you or your opinions. That's disheartening...does that mean that they really don't care about my partner's satisfaction? so they do care some? rotag, pullin' a terpy on terpy. Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Nah. They either could NOT care less or are careless. Terp, who has to get used to Southerners and try to figure out what they really mean when they say: "I don't care to." He really hasn't a clue and isn't fixin' to any time soon. Quote
Coney Islander Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 ^ This website, it seems, will answer your question. http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/53/messages/1097.html Quote
Monroe Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I like spam, a little bit of mustard and some pickle, you all don't know what you are missing. 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 I'd prefer green eggs and ham! Quote
kingsrattler Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Spam with mustard is great, I have never tried it with pickle. Quote
Thrill_Biscuit Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 You know, if you slice spam thin enough and fry it, you'll have a meat lover's delicacy that eats like potato chips. Quote
benred23 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Dip it in some batter, deep fry it and serve it with some bbq sauce.. Mmmm, Deep Fried Spam.. Quote
Bennett Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Can I have Spam instead of the baked beans then? Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 So, for you, Spam is no Treet? Quote
Snowman Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Cut two pieces the size of a thick cut french fry, pan fry them, put on a hot dog bun, add mustard, Skyline chili (available in the canned chili section of your local Kroger store) top with shredded cheddar cheese, and danged if you don't have a chili dog good enough to smack the Monty Python cast with. Quote
kingsrattler Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 ^ Skyline Chili also available in the Frozen section at your neighborhood Kroger. Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Not my neighborhood Kroger. Not Publix either. Quote
