rcs
I know there is another topic right now featuring retro Kings Island pics and I'm not trying to steal TOPGUN1993's thunder, but I have finally got around to scanning my own classic KI photos. Some of these were taken I believe in 1975, when my mother went there with a group of her friends. The others were taken in July of 1980 when my parents took me there shortly after my fourth birthday. There are lots of Enchanted Voyage pics and pics of the dolphin show, with a few other attractions mixed in. I'll try to post one a day and welcome all comments and insights into these photos. They mean a great deal to me and hope you all enjoy them. Our first pic is of the double Ferris wheel, the Zodiac. This is a pic from 1975 I do believe.
standbyme
Very cool! I really look forward to seeing the Enchanted Voyage ones. I also think it's good to string them out...otherwise the fun is over in 1 viewing. I'm not trying to steal TOPGUN1993's thunder.. As in Thunder Road?! CoastersRZ
Awesome picture. I eagerly await the rest of your collection. Keep them coming!
rcs
Todays pic is from the Enchanted Voyage. This photo is from 1980. I have always wondered who the two dudes in the boat are. Anyone have any idea?

standbyme
Thank you for sharing these photos! I still have fond memories of The Enchanted Voyage. I must admit though, all of the videos and photos that I have seen of it don't quite seem to live up to how I remember it. I tried to figure out who the 2 guys in the boat are but couldn't. The design of the outfits look a little Speed Buggyish...but I know it's not them. I think I know all of the "classic" H-B cartoons...so i'm guessing that these guys are from one that fell through the cracks.
dr_humor
I believe that is "Tom" and "Tub"... If memory serves me correctly. From the "Mighty Mitor" cartoon (or something like that). There would be very short "shorts" of a Moby Dick cartoon inserted into epsiodes of Mighty Mitor. Tom and Tub were rescued by Moby Dick; hence, the whale. standbyme
Thanks for the information dr_humor. I do not remember this cartoon...but obviously the outfits match. I learned something new today...but I doubt it will ever come in handy anywhere else but here!
kingsrattler
^ You can always count on Boomerang for good cartoons.
dr_humor
That memory came from a very deep place in my brain. Wierd how something can turn on a light somewhere that has not seen the light of day in decades.
rcs
Thanks for the replies guys. Never heard of Mighty Mitor or Tom and Tub. Love H-B cartoons, don't know how I missed out on them. Todays pic is from the dolphin show in 1980. No dolphins in this pic, but it gives you a good view of some of the area around the water tanks. standbyme
That IS a nice shot...most of the pictures I run across seem to only be close-ups of the dolphins and not much else.
TombRaiderFTW
Great photos, rcs! They're great new angles on things that don't seem to have many photos online. (For instance, I don't think I've ever seen that sort of close-up on the Zodiac wheel. Most photos I've seen of the ride are either from the Eiffel Tower or are super close up shots of just one of the carriages. [is "carriage" the right word there? The only other thing I can think of is "basket".]) Can't wait to see more!
Thrill_Biscuit
[is "carriage" the right word there? The only other thing I can think of is "basket".]) Can't wait to see more! I've been calling them 'gondolas' for decades. I could be wrong, though. Maybe 'canopies?'
TombRaiderFTW
^ "Gondolas" seems more appropriate than either of my ideas. Google's alternative definition for a gondola (besides the sort of boat you'd take in Venice) is "a cabin on a suspended ski lift," which isn't too far off from what most ferris wheels have. So I'd call them gondolas.
rcs
Todays pic is from 1975. We see a couple of KI employees taking a break with one of the characters, who I believe is from the tv show The Banana Splits. In the background you can see a couple of the trams the park used.
standbyme
rcs, this is by FAR my favorite photo that you have posted so far! What a great shot! I have never been able to remember all of the old Hanna-Barbera parking lot names. Looking at your picture I tried to figure them all out...the ones is yellow were either a guess, or some that I wasn't 100% positive were right. Anyone out there want to verify or correct any of the yellow ones? The toughest one for me was the second one down on the left. It appears to me that the second word starts with a "W". I google'd a list of HB characters...the only 2 that had a capitol W in the second word were Hokey Wolf & Ding-A-Ling Wolf. My problem that I have with my guess is that in your photo, the word preceeding the capitol W word does not look like it ends in either a "y" or a "g"...anyone know what the answer(s) are? Thanks again for the photos!
rcs
I'm glad you like the photo. I wish both signs were clearly in the shot. I guess mom was more concerned about getting the Banana Split guy in the shot. lol Your right, it doesn't really look like Hokey Wolf on that sign, Maybe someone else can come along and clear that up for us. And who in the heck is Blabber Mouse? Thats another H-B character I have never heard of.
Snowman
LOVE the pics!! thank you so much rcs for sharing these. What would be in the background today of the dolphin show shot? I'm trying to get a bearing on which direction that is. standbyme, your attention to detail is as amazing as ever. I cracked up at the thought of after an 11 hour day at the park trying to remember if we parked in "Shag Rugg" or the Hair Bear" lot. standbyme
And who in the heck is Blabber Mouse? Thats another H-B character I have never heard of. He was in the short 5 minute type cartoons. I have such fond memories of watching tons of Hanna-Barbera cartoons on WTTV back in the day. Kids of today really missed out not being able to sit down every day to watch cartoons with a host who introduced the cartoons...read letters from the viewers... My favorite was Cowboy Bob at lunch-time...there was also Janie in the mornings before school. Good times. (Which I am guessing Avatar, IndyGuy4KI 7 many others on here can attest too.) rcs...sorry for sidetracking your thread.
Guest TombraiderTy
Could it possibly be Motor Mouse, versus Blabber Mouse? I remember one of the small flat rides at park opening was named after him.
standbyme
Could it possibly be Motor Mouse, versus Blabber Mouse? I remember one of the small flat rides at park opening was named after him. I eliminated Motormouse because it is supposed to only be one word...and the M in Mouse on the sign is capitalized...but it wouldn't be the first typo on a sign. rcs
Todays pic is from the Enchanted Voyage in 1980. I'm not sure which Hanna-Barbera character this skeleton had to do with, though I suspect it was more than likely part of a Scooby-Doo scene on the ride.
standbyme
This is a fun thread...I am seeing things that I know that I saw LOTS of times back then...but had forgotten them long ago...at this point in time at least I still remember that there even was a ride called Enchanted Voyage. My uncle, who owns Magic Makers Costumes, remade "Beeper" costume, when it needed updating. For those who do not know, Beeper was a mascot character in the vain of the Banana Splits. I wish I had a photo to share.
THE_BEASTmaster
Here's one from the 80's as well. Me being an amateur puppeteer, I'd always try and catch one of the shows as a kid.
