IndyGuy4KI Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Are there any fish in the actual lake of Geauga Lake? Do you think Kinzel sold them as well? 5 Quote
PyroKinesis Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Do you think Kinzel sold them as well? Well he did say Cedar Fair doesn't do animals. 7 Quote

Alright, I admit Im a bit of a conspiracy theorist (and yes i know it was just as much Gary Story's stupidity as it was "the" Dick Kinzels) but thats a good one, LOL. 2 Quote
Leland Wykoff Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 More updates: http://www.auroraadvocate.com/news%20local/2015/09/02/meijer-store-closer-to-bainbridge-deal Seems Meijer backed down from some of the lofty pie-in-the-sky demands. It is called negotiation folks. 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 ...Uh huh. Who is speaking here? The town's consultant who developed the town's restrictions. Why? Either the deal is about to fall through and this is an attempt to pressure Meijer not to drop out or Meijer demanded this explanation after the town's blabbermouths were making Meijer look bad. Some demands were dropped? That could be 1 or 2 out of 37--and the town could be saving face. Meijer has the upper hand here. An empty lot. No other potential known retail. Meijer can go anywhere it wants. The town wants them desperately. There is empty retail built space in that county, in all of Ohio. Read the first paragraphs again. Ask who, why? Someone is trying to keep a deal together. Negotiations are not typically conducted in newspapers. Unless someone is desperate and afraid. Someone is. It isn't Meijer. 6 Quote
westcoaster Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Interesting good for Meijer, good for history, http://www.auroraadvocate.com/news%20local/2015/12/02/meijer-store-could-show-geauga-lake-memorabilia 2 Quote

The Interpreter Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 "Importance of the amusement park to Bainbridge Township" Am I allowed to laugh at that comment from the city? No. It's from Meijer. And THEY mean it. 4 Quote
Outdoor Man Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I've been through that area few times, and there's a giant Walmart just up the road. Is there really enough population to support both? Is there enough of a population to support a mega park?, oh, wait... 3 Quote
shark6495 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Still just so sad. 15 years ago it's a thriving amusement park and one of the largest. Now it's going to be a Meijer. Amazingly sad. I think about how I would feel if in 15 years KI would be turned into an empty field. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 4 Quote
The Interpreter Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Less than 10 percent will be a Meijer. IF Meijer doesn't drop out of the project. 5 Quote
Top Flight Back Deck Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Given how many hoops they've had to jump through given they're buying a parking lot only, I wouldn't be surprised if they just abandon it and move elsewhere. However, if they're willing to develop here, they have reason to. They are a highly profitable and successful business, so wherever they develop, they have good reason to. But I wouldn't be surprised if there is some strain in this relationship. 4 Quote

Top Flight Back Deck Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I love though how they want a landmark or monument/mural dedicated to the old park. If you just look left you'll see an admissions gate, a dilapidated lot, and a slowly disintegrating Miller. 5 Quote
Top Flight Back Deck Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 HAH, Oh the residents make me laugh http://www.cleveland.com/west-geauga/index.ssf/2015/12/bainbridge_residents_give_wish.html#incart_2box Their wish list is such an utter joke. Maybe if you didn't hate the park like you stated you did back in the day and help it grow and develop a tourism destination, it alongside with the supersized growth induced by SIX, the park may have thrived... Now, enjoy your lake of footers. 7 Quote

malem Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 The page is up to $689 now, after the media publicity. The money is being donated to a yet-to-be-named charity "in case the rehabilitation of Geauga Lake does not come to fruition". Cedar Fair still owns most of the site, more than 10 years after the park closed. Though I appreciate this guy's enthusiasm, even if he had the money, it would be very unlikely that they would allow an acquirer of the land to develop a new amusement park there. 1 Quote

Creed Bratton Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I don't think I'd be okay with the $ not really having a plan if not getting enough. Sure, it could go to a charity, but who's to say the charity isn't his pocket? 2 Quote
King Ding Dong Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Also consider the fact that CP is only an hour from Cleveland has become even more of a powerhouse over the past 10 years. On what level could a park compete with that? Even if one were to plop down something the size of KK or HW, could it survive? 1 Quote

Even with a good charity though, he's not getting me. 1 Quote

As petty as it sounds, I don't want some unknown person to me, to make a donation with my money (doubtful it'd would be on my behalf). I hate to say it, but I don't feel like this guy is very well educated on the property, the history (of the post-Geauga Lake days) and the overall world of the area. It'd make sense if he were proposing to open a park like Geauga Lake elsewhere. I don't know him personally, haven't looked into him either, but I doubt his background is in building/running amusement parks. I'd think about giving money to someone who has a history of reviving/building amusement parks, but not to some random guy on the internet who thinks it's a good idea. 3 Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Would his Go Fund me be better utilized for donations on a charter bus up to CP a few time a year? 1 Quote
Creed Bratton Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Dunno, but apparently people are willing to donate....I could try to fund a few trips this year through GoFundMe! 1 Quote
shark6495 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 A local park could maybe thrive around there. Here in Cincy we have one that’s small only a handful of rides. Many feel if Americans had an effort it could have survived. It’s all about knowing your audience and catering to that audience. If you don’t you fail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
