The family was planning on heading to KI for a fun day on the 4th, but with the weather forecast was not looking good so we decided not to make the drive over. My father in law called and wanted to know if we wanted to go to the Indianapolis Zoo with him and my sister in law and her daughter. So, we all headed for downtown Indy for the Zoo.

Our zoo is not very big and I personally refuse to pay to go myself, but since the in-law was paying we went. I figured I would share some pictures of the animals we took!

My son Korbin petting the sharks!

The Indianapolis Zoo is great, I don't like it as much as the Cincinnati Zoo but I do like the Indy Zoo. Lots of good animals and a great place for a good time! I haven't been there since the "shark petting" exhibit opened to the public a few years back. I like the pictures too IndyGuy and it looks like you guys had lots of fun! :)

The Indy zoo is currently building an orangutan exhibit which will open next year, featuring a monorail-type ride through it. While nowwhere near the size of say the cincy zoo, it is easily done in a half day (including the 4-d, carousel and coaster) without breaking the bank. The dolphin show is fun too. I last went this previous fall with my kids on a cool, rainy day. the zoo was empty, but the animals were VERY active! (lions roaring constantly, tigers prancing all around, etc.) def better than the way they look on most hot summer days (lethargic).

I was at the Indy zoo late last week. Its definently smaller than the cincy zoo, but dare I say that it felt more immersive??? The rhinos were maybe 5 feet from us, I like how they extended the bridge out to a canopy that puts you more in the middle of their area. My son enjoyed their coaster, mother was kind of blah (essentially a bigger version of the great pumpkin coaster at KI, even goes around twice). Dolphin show wasn't all that impressive, they spent too much time talking, not enough time showing off how high the dolphins can jump and flip; that part was free, so tough to complain, but I wouldn't do that 20 minute show again. The Dog show was awesome, had dogs catching frisbees, doing stunts, even had a beagle sniff a mother's sweatshirt that her son had rubbed his hands on. The kid rubbed his hands on it, then went and sat down in the first row, they brought the beagle out (he's used on a search and rescue mission to find missing people), he sniffed the sweatshirt (the kids were now sitting approx 3 or 4 rows in front of their mother in the first row), walked out to the middle, outside of the roped off area, immediatly turned left towards the kids, sniffed along the row of people in the first row, went past probably a good 50 people and jumped right up on the bench next to the kid who had rubbed his mother's sweatshirt on his hands. Really, really impressive.

The desert (reptile area) was closed, the new construction for the orangatang exhibit looked impressive. It appears they are going to have some sort of skilift type ride that takes you up near platforms where the animals will be hanging out. Definently looks like it will be cool. The shark petting area was cool as well.
