How to apply for a job at kings island and cedar point

Correct if I'm wrong, and I'm sure somebody will, but I thought Cedar Pointe had lodging available for workers that were from outside the area. I don't believe King's Island has lodging available, which means you'd be on your own to find a place to live or somebody to crash with for the summer.

Otherwise, I believe KI has a hiring fair sometime during the offseason. Best route for either place is to try and get some face/face time with somebody inside PR so that you're not just another application, but somebody they have a history with. As with any job, its often who you know, not always what you know, and since you're young, you probably don't have a ton of work experience to draw from that will scream "hire me" so its you verse a bunch of other young potential employees without a ton of work experience trying to get the same job. There are many people on this site who either work at the park or have worked at the park in the past; they may be able to help you get in touch with the right people.

You are correct meford about housing for workers at Cedar Point. Kings Island does not offer housing for the employees.

In all honesty, I don't believe that the best way to get a job at the park is to get as much face to face time with someone inside Public Relations as they do not hire for anyone other than their department. Trying to get face to face time before the park really starts hiring can be detrimental to the process as each department has a lot on their plates before the hiring season begins.

Just remember applications for employment are conducted online at the park's web site. You do have three choices as to your top three job preferences. If you want to get a chance on being hired, don't limit your choices. Always use any position as your third choice. Just don't limit yourself to three jobs only and only those three jobs. Unlike getting hired in the outside, where training and experience are the major factors in getting hired, the park is after people willing to show up for work on time ready for work each day. They will train you and you will advance from there to other jobs in your job area. Once you are hired, if you do well during the year, the odds are you will be rehired the next year.

CP you have to be 18, no exceptions unless you're local and will work in foods/merch/games, rides is 18+ only (as it should be IMO)

KI is free reign for minors and majors...So yellow tag it up :)

Minors at KI, what job is that and age?

You can be 15 and have the Admissions Associate, Games Associate, and Character jobs.

Back in the summer of 1973, I saw Charlie Dinn walking in the park and I ask him if I could come work for him in maintenance and he said, yes. Come over to my office after Labor Day and you can start. I was hired as a full time maintenance helper and worked with the carpenters constructing the Lion Country Safari mono-rail. But after it was all completed, there were lay offs and Iw was one of workers let go. It is very hard to get hired full time and it is very competitive. Especially in the high skilled areas of in the maintenance department (HVAC, trades, mechanics, landscaping). The number of full time is not that many and they do have seasonal workers during the operating season.

I'm bringing this topic back, as I'm sixteen in a month and want to apply for a job next summer. I'll be living five minutes away by that time so I just have to get a job at Kings Island!

Can you experienced KI workers give me some ideas of what I'm doing? How the interview is, how it'll be starting my very first job at Kings Island (if I get it), if it's as fun as I think it is (to be honest, I wouldn't even care about getting a job as a sweeper..!)...or should I just get a job at Kroger? ;)

Unlike getting hired in the outside, where training and experience are the major factors in getting hired, the park is after people willing to show up for work on time ready for work each day.

That same rule applies to the "outside".

I've fired people for not meeting that requirement.

It is very hard to get hired full time and it is very competitive. Especially in the high skilled areas of in the maintenance department (HVAC, trades, mechanics, landscaping).

Again.....this same rule applies to the "outside".

Pro Tip - Require skilled trade training prior to entering the workforce.

Sweeps might be considered as one of best "lower level" jobs in the park, but it is also one of the higher paying , seasonal jobs in the park, outside of full time positions. My very first positions at the park in 72 was as a sweep and I was a sweep again when I came back in the 90's and again in 2005. We took great pride in what we did and considered it as one of the best jobs at the park.

As in any interview you have for any job, be it at Kings Island or other companies, always send a thank you note to the interviewer.

In my last job, I interviewed over 10,000 people (I was a staffing recruiter/senior manager) and have only received 4 hand written thank you notes. I have received 7 thank you emails. That thank you note really goes a long way in my opinion. It makes you stand out a little more than others. In fact, there was a young man (maybe 22) that really had minimal skills and I placed him in a position because he wrote a thank you note to me. He has been with that company now 7-8 years and is now making good money.

I once interviewed with Great American Insurance during my senior year at The Mount and I sent him a thank you note after the interview. During a job fair at the convention center, I met the same interviewer at the Great American booth and he remembered me and we had a very good chat. It was because of my of this professionalism that he recommended me for another position with the IT department at Great American that I did not even apply for. I had a great interview and was called back as one of the top two people in line for the job. The interviewer was very impressed with me because of this and my credentials that I received from The Mount (College of Mount St. Joseph). Note: Soon, The College of Mount St. Joseph will be known as Mount St. Joseph University due to the number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that they are offering.

Biggest thing for interviews. Sell yourself, give the company a reason why YOU should work there over other people.

As for sweeps, at your age, I'd say go for that. I'm not big on minors in ride operations, but still. Now I will say something I hope supervision is really finally pushing farther than in the past. It was something I promoted once I got put in charge at my attractions. Your job there aside from daily functions all stem down to one thing only. You're there to help guests have that best day of the summer feeling. Always go to lengths to make sure guests are happy, enjoying their day, and not having any problems that you can't help correct. You keep that mentality everyday at work and it will take you far with Cedar Fair, and will help in future jobs/careers as well.

Also keep to the core values...err Cornerstones..I still remember them...or both..

Slowly realizing Cedar Fair was/is somewhat military like with it's corporateness :D
