Probably no more than storms closing down rides, extra security at the gate, and other unforeseen and random events give the park a bad reputation. Meaning, there are some who want their negative biases reinforced and never would go to the park anyway, others who have a bad experience that the park would be unable to prevent yet blame the park anyway, and the media which is thirsty to make even normal safe operation into a negative. That is all going to occur no matter what actually happens at the park. As long as the park continues to operate safely as much as is within their control, they will continue to have as good a reputation as possible within such an environment.

You all make it sound like there is a vast media conspiracy against theme parks, specifically locally versus KI.

I can almost guarantee the media does my want bad things to happen to KI. There is no blood thirsty media turning normal operations into negatives.

It has 100% to do with revenue and ad clicks. If a reporter is there and sees a ride down, they call it in. If they hear it over the scanners, they report it.

I would venture Very few of you on here have ever set foot in a media center let alone worked for a media group. The few who have worked in media will understand me standing up for my media family.

If you think it sounds better, "media thirsty to make a non-eventful safe operation of a ride sound like a negative to garner page clicks and ad exposure", then ok. I will say that instead.

If however you take issue to my saying something negative about how a newswriter conducts their business due to how I personally see the results (people freaking out in the comments about how unsafe KI is when what happened was completely safe, and specifically done for safety), and that I am unqualified to speak against any business in which I have no experience... Clearly that newswriter had no experience in ride operation. Were they qualified to write a news story about it then? Shouldn't they have actually contacted anyone who knows anything before plastering it on their Facebook page? If being first and getting clicks is all that matters, I think you have made my point better than I ever could.

I'm with Magenta Lizard on this- Fear Sells.

I'm going up this week to hop on some rides, and I'm a neurotic fearful person by nature. Can't stand the highway, but I'll pile on DB without a shrug, seat belts or no.

KI is safe, as evidenced by FOF being closed until the problem is solved.

Lately, there's been some pile driving on this park for no reason. Banshee 'stalled' on the track? That's something to write about? A safety precaution is written as a flaw with the ride?

There's no competitor around these parts to fuel the bad press. I dislike this recent spate of slow news day smatter about the park I love.

I have more than once gotten sucked in by the idiots who post on local news outlets and their fear-mongering stories on KI. I always tell myself to just ignore and move on but there are always certain posts that make me chime in and then it just ends up me ****ed off all night thinking about it.

You make a few good points ad they are understandable. However, in this day and age, a first to print mentality rules and there is no time to wait for a response.

Viewers/readers/listeners are very quick to turn the channel to get info. So if station A waits for a call back (which could mean a two-6hour wait) while station b puts it on air right away. Station b will get the viewers, viewers bring ad revenue.

When stations reduce their news operations, often 1 reporter will cover multiple sources (entertainment, legal, political, etc).

Te media is not so much to blame as it is the viewers who switch channels

Putting on my Nancy Drew hat, I think it is a very good possibility. FoF had been down at least a week, it finally opened, and a couple hours later, the entire section of the park lost power. And when the power came back up later that night, FoF didn't, and hasn't been up yet since. Whatever the electrical issues are going on with it, they seem to be ongoing.

Think it may be time for the entire thing to be rewired, and I heard "rumors" that it could be possible the ride to be closed the rest of the season, I hope not I haven't even had a ride on it yet this year. I hope this is not the cause.

My only worry now is with all the problems and press could potentially cause the park to want to remove it.

Think about Wildcat at CP. Was certified for the 2012 year and everything, but bam, gone. Only thing we could guess was the press it received due to the collision.

I highly doubt this would happen to FOF, however, it is a thought in the back of my head presently

There was a collision on Wildcat?...I did not know that!

I would love to live next to Kings Island.

So would I. It would make that long 6.5 mile drive home after working Haunt so much shorter!

(Just kidding... kinda. I'm very fortunate to live as close as I do to the park, but I'm physically worn out after working Haunt, especially on Fridays when I've put in a full day at my regular job before that. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again... Haunt is exhausting work, but completely worth it!!!)

Many minor employees there, and for rides, they are unable to bring cell phones in the park with them. How are they going to coordinate that, or the extra hour of work that could warrant another break.

Gee, how did we ever manage working later than planned when I was a minor working at the park back in the late '80s and early '90s, before cell phones were common, not to mention the nearly two decades the park was open before I started working there? Oh yeah, we were allowed to call home using the park's land lines to let our parents know to pick us up later! :P

I have more than once gotten sucked in by the idiots who post on local news outlets and their fear-mongering stories on KI. I always tell myself to just ignore and move on but there are always certain posts that make me chime in and then it just ends up me ****ed off all night thinking about it.

I know what you mean. I used to get sucked in by comments made by the uninformed, especially on Facebook. That's why I rarely, if ever, look at responses to the park's posts anymore. It's just not worth getting worked up over, especially after trying to correct someone and having them just display their ignorance even more in return.

"Recent String of Ride Related Malfunctions at Kings Island not stopping customers"

http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/warren-county/mason/kings-island-recent-string-of-ride-related-malfunctions-at-kings-island-not-stopping-customers

Am I alone in imagining that this guy:

Facebook user Lenny Kedanis told WCPO Sunday he will not return to the park.

“Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance,” Kedanis said. “If you're raising your park entrance prices, don't just stick it in your pocket. Invest in your park maintenance or you'll lose what you have."

Looks like this:
