Big Bad Wolf Returning?

Recommended Posts

I was just there yesterday and saw the new footers in the drachen fire area. There's definitely some kind of rollercoaster going in back there. It would pain me to see a cheap rip off of big bad wolf as an arrow suspended coaster that utilized the terrain is worlds better than some family b&m invert that runs across a grassy field. I wish someone would bring back the arrow suspended model with the swinging gondola cars but alas we will probably never see anything like that again. I'm just curious if this new coaster is going to be marketed as BBW 2.0 and while the GP and younger guests who never rode the original might not care, I don't think anyone is replacing BBW in the hearts and minds of it's huge fanbase  including many middle age and older guests.

BGW is a family friendly park. I doubt they would put in a roller coaster called Big Beautiful Woman. ;)

You're cracking me up! Y'all know what I'm referencing. BBW in rollercoaster lingo is Big Bad Wolf just like "riding a woodie" is not what comes to mind for some people. Haha

I didn't see the announcement live but I read about it from various FB friends and BGW pages I follow. That will give me at least 5 new coaster credits on my VA trip next year (2 at KD and now 3 at BGW - possibly even 4 if I make it over to the kids' area and grab the Grover coaster credit). I really wish BGW were closer.

I still have mixed feelings about them building a BBW 2.0 but it being a B&M family invert. Sometimes it's best to leave the legacy of a beloved ride alone... If they had come out with a new swinging train system or S&S had just brought back the arrow model I would have been all for it. However, if the ride or the layout is lacking there's going to be a lot of original fans that are upset that they used the legacy of a beloved former ride to market a subpar one. For me personally I wasn't a huge fan of any of the names but Geisterwolf made the most sense to me. This ride is a ghost of one in the past while "wolf storm" and "wolf reign" made less sense to me... besides aren't DarKoaster and verboten already themed to storms?

Well apparently it literally is being named the Big Bad Wolf: The wolf's revenge.

For me personally, will it be fun? Yes I think so. Will it ever replace the ride of which it's trying to carry on the legacy? No. I think the ride should have had an original theme or at the least not had the same name as the previous attraction unless they actually were going to get S&S or Vekoma to build a real suspended coaster with the old fashioned arrow style gondola trains. You can't replace one of the most famous coasters of the 1980s and 1990s with a B&M family invert...well to be fair you can but did they ever stop and ask themselves if they should?

This would also be true of the discussion about SOB.  It would be akin to building a new ride named SOB but it's by The Gravity Group.  It's a family wooden coaster in The Vortex plot. If you took Mystic Timbers and Kentucky Flyer combined and divided by half, that would be about the size of it.  :)

On the way to a test last week I am pretty sure I saw the track for the new coaster at the steel plant in Batavia. It was getting dark out and I had to primarily focus on the road, but knowing they manufacture B&M track is common knowledge, the track appeared to be the same shade of red as the mock up imagery proposes and the pieces looked like invert track. So about 99.9% sure that's what I saw. Pretty neat either way. Only a coaster nerd could appreciate seeing new coaster track chilling in a lot

Before my move to northern KY, I used to live on the East side of Cincy and would take a ride by the plant every once in awhile to see if I could spot any track outside. Coaster nerds unite! Ha!
