New Park Map & Guide for Paramount Parks

After recently veiwing the new Carowinds and Great America park maps, I couldn't help but notice that they copied the current MGM Studios park map all the way! From the main attractions being on the map with the colors of the area their in behind them, to the location and style of the attractions guide and park legend, its a hardcore copy (even the location of the no smoking symbol). All I have to say is: "Yay, its about time! I like the new look of the maps and I think they made a good decision in making this change!" To view the maps, click on the links below:

Adobe Acrobat is needed in order to download the park map. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat download your free copy now.

Thanks goes out to mgmstudios.org for this one!

PS: Who designs the park maps for Paramount Parks?

I bellieve Citigraph does the map design for Paramount Parks, or at least they did a couple years ago. In fact, Citigraph has done park maps for a lot of parks, Michigan`s Adventure, Dorney Park (Cedar Fair), Hershey Park, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Six Flags parks, and Universal Parks. I`m not sure who does Disney, but those two maps are near identical in their graphical layout. I`m not sure if Citigraph is still responsible for the Paramount Park maps. (A couple years back, the maps said "Copyright Citigraph, Inc." But that hasn`t appeared on the park maps for several seasons now.

I have park maps for every season I have had a season pass (1998, plus all the Fearfest maps dating back to 2002. It is really kind of odd to look at the 1998 park map and see how very different the park was back then when compared to now!

I agree with CoastersRZ about how much the park has changed since 1998. That was the first season I ever went to PKI, and the differences between now and 1998 are unreal.

I remember the Keelboat Canal, King Cobra, Outer Limits, Adventure Village, Top Gun red, Amazon Falls, and Adventure Express completely in the woods insead of next to a mammoth wooden giant. biggrin.gif

I am positive its a Citigraph map. Really does any major park at least in the US not use them? And yes Disney does use Citigraph (I think). Was in California last year the Universal Studios, Disney, Knotts, PKI maps are very similar. Makes you think they only have one or two overworked artists.

EDIT: On the disney front thats a guess really. As its not actually listed as being one of the parks they do maps for on the Citigraph site and yes PKI is listed. Its just that they have that look to them.

EDIT 2: OK I was starting to wonder about those Disney maps. So I did a few google searchs. Now I am not sure if its still done this way today but as of only a few years ago they did the maps in house and websites that had old copies of the maps were even able to give the "Imagineers" name. So I guess my guess was wrong oh well.

I don't use them either but I collect them laugh.gif <--Geek!

I'm with you on the "geek squad" with this one!

Everytime I go to a park I get a map to "use" and one when I'm leaving to "save". I actually have a portfolio that I keep all of my maps in--each one in its own sheet protector. My earliest map is a KI visitor's guide from 1982! (KI's tenth anniversary...) I have pretty much every PKI map since 1993. Some of the rest of my collection includes:

SF over Texas (2)

SFMM

Geauga Lake (before SF bought it...)

SFWOA (2)

USH

USF

PKD

PC (2)

PGA

KK (before SF)

SFGAm

Disneyland

CA Adventure

MK

Epcot

Animal Kingdom

Disney-MGM

Typhoon Lagoon

CP (3)

Port Aventura

So...does that make me a SUPER GEEK? laugh.gif

Citigraph has a pretty cool website... www.citigraph.com

Disney has always done their park maps in house (hell, what don't they do themselves?), but take notice to how the Disney maps look more like they were painted and don't have thick outlines like most other park maps wink.gif

CombatStupendous89, I bet you really hate the Cedar Fair park maps as they are as cartoony as they get laugh.gif

Citigraph currently designs the Park Map & Guides for Paramount’s Great America, Paramount’s Carowinds, and Paramount’s Kings Island.

As stated earlier, Citigraph does the maps for both parks, and quite a few others. My homepark, Michigan's Adventure, used to use Citigraph maps until we were purchased by Cedar Fair. Now we use Cedar Fair-done maps, which are not only too cartoonish but also quite unproportionate. The Citigraph maps are very nice and I would take 'em back any day.
