Seems strange to stick with a dead brand? It must have been very cheap. At legacy Cedar parks, the IP typically was not used much beyond the childrens area. The majority of the children in these areas are small. Most love a cute dog and a cute bird. The folks that were 10 years old when Peanuts were brought in are now at the age where they had or are having kids...they like the nostalgia. I dont know what the rage is for today's kids, Peppa Pig? There are a couple of parks dedicated to this IP but it too, will be a "dead brand" down the road, as are most childrens IP. The last time I walked through the kids area, there was certainly not a lack of kids there. I think they like the IP.

There are a lot of families that have now grown up with it like others did with Hanna Barbera or Nickelodeon, just not in the same way through watching it on TV. Cedar Fair installed Peanuts, not Paramount as this entirely did not exist in 2010. Weren't Peanuts in the legacy CF parks already before the acquisition of Paramount Parks? Like never. Its nothing of relevance to kids at all in 2025.
rexpostal
And those are kids being dressed by the people who were ten years old when this started. Those people do not care about Peanuts, either.
disco2000
There is never a shortage of lines in the kiddie area. There is a reason KI doesn't offer the pre-k pass. I don't think the kids really care what the rides are called or themed. They just want to ride rides LOL.

It is more about what the parents want because at that age the parents mostly decide what the kids do. So if the parents are nostalgic to peanuts then they will want there kids to like it thus making them go to the park. The theming is more for parents and awards more then anything most people could care less about what the ride is called and looks like and more about what it does. Most kids say they want to ride something because they see what it does not because it is painted to look like something else.
rexpostal
Yeah, I agree. The rides will have people on them no matter what they are called. Getting the Peanuts at a discount makes as much sense as swapping them out to Looney Tunes or whatever. Neither one is particularly popular with people under 10. Swapping to Looney Tunes at this point in time would probably be too much of a financial burden for the company, so when they ran the numbers they realized they could save money in the short term by renewing the contract. Yep, or the grandparents taking the grandkids to KI and the grandparents grew up on Peanuts.... And the grandparents is where the money is at. I see a lot of grandparents around the park wearing Snoopy stuff they bought at the park!
rexpostal
Most of the grandparents are now people that grew up on Nickelodeon and not Peanuts. You are thinking more of great grandparents.
disco2000
The average age of having kids has increased over the years, so there are many grandparents that still fall in this category. Heck there are many parents that fall in that category LOL. Regardless, there is an entire age group that knows Peanuts that take kids to the park.... I think they could go with no IP and the kids would still come. I guess they look at the revenue generated from merch sales and compare to the cost of the IP and make a business decision.

Weren't Peanuts in the legacy CF parks already before the acquisition of Paramount Parks? Big typo on my part, should have read "when it was installed at the former Paramount Parks". I was trying to use it as a differentiator, so I wasn't paying as much attention to how I phrased it. Peanuts came to the Cedar Fair parks shortly after CF acquired Knott's Berry Farm. It replaced/supplemented the Berenstain Bears areas. Changing away from Peanuts or Looney Tunes across most of the Six Flags parks will probably be like changing away from Hanna Barbera (and partially Nickelodeon) at the Paramount Parks. Any arguments of "It's been here for so long" or "Do kids today still know the brand" might not be as relevant if the parks are forced to change because of licensing. Six Flags will do whatever they can to save money where possible. Whatever comes to Great America next year will probably be a good indicator as to what the future will hold for Peanuts at the Six Flags parks — if that project is still happening, that is.
shark6495
I’ve got kids in this age range (and worked elementary schools for a bit). If you’re not talking about stuff not from the big IP (Disney, Nick) then your pickings become super super low. I promise you, that kids do not know nor care about Snoopy currently because he is not on tv consistently. My middle kid really enjoyed the new Charlie Brown movie (2015) but he grew bored of it after a while because there was nothing new to follow. Snoopy doesn’t bring in the crowds but kids enjoy it there. Looney Tunes has at least been on streaming with repeats and new shows/movies for a bit. Would kids come to see Bugs Bunny? But I think this was the same argument we had on these boards 15 years ago when Nick shows were being replaced Ultimately, my thought is the kids (and us adults) don’t come because of a theme but a theme can make it more enjoyable and want to do it again.

Quote of the day, shark. My kids never cared what the theme was of any ride when they were little. They just wanted to get on. My kids just saw Snoopy and company and enjoyed them for what they were. Prime example, look at Holiday World. They have their own characters for the kids area and I don't see anyone screaming for them to theme to a specific IP. As you say though, meeting a character from a TV show they watch on the daily would most definitely make their day a bit more, but not necessary.
