Well unless I'm wrong, this coaster has been confirmed. The details have not as far as I know, except that it will be made by Intamin. I can't remember where I saw these links. Anyone?

I'm not sure that this is a great idea, unless Intamin has found a way to keep the roughness down, and an ability to keep the ride together. Don't get me wrong, I love SOB, but I think it is a poorly designed ride.

IF and a big IF this is true and the HW longest coaster rumor is true, then PKI will lose everything they have. We already know SFGAdv and HW will get wood coaster, now it is just a matter of breaking the records. If PKI loses both records, the park will just go down hill. darn PKI.

That doesn't make any sense. If we lose some lousy records, the park gradually falls apart and dies. Riiiiight. If that was the case, Cedar Point would have closed down years ago. Every time they break a new record, another park beats it within a year. How long did Millenium Force keep its record, a few weeks? Besides, PKI doesn't care about gigantic record-breakers anymore. They want rides with theming and effects now (good for them biggrin.gif). A freakin' height record shouldn't concern them anymore.

It will be designed by Intamin, but they work closely with another foreign manufacurer of laminated wood track that assembles more like a steel coaster. Here's the link to Intamin's web site....Intamin World Wide

They have already built one coaster, It's called Colossos at Heide Park. Here's the link to pics from RCDB...colossos

Supposedly, it is one of the smoothest wood coasters around.

Sure theres proof that coasters are going to be built, but no one says if they are going to break these records for sure. id would really p**s me off to see Six Flags break the SOB record. SF is worthless these days and keep shooting themselves in the foot and running their company into the ground. Even in they break the height speed and length record we still have the FIRST AND ONLY wooden looping rollercoaster and a better reputation than ANY p.o.s. SF park.

^^They also built Balder at Liseburg, I've heard its really fun as well. I don't know about the new coaster at SFGADV, I mean a wood coaster 250ft just seems too tall and extremely rough. I know the wood that Intamin uses is stonger and sturdier then normal wood but still I don't know. Also, with Six Flags being in such a bad financial state I don't see SFGADV getting another huge coaster next year. I mean they got Kingda Ka and the Golden Kingdom which was over 30 million. I just don't see Six Flags shelling out another 20 million or so the very next year at the same park, but I could be wrong. It would be interesting if they did because then SFGADV would have the world's tallest and fastest coasters in both steel and wood.

^Actually, SOB isn't the first looping coaster. It is the only current looping wooden coaster but there were several other wooden looping coasters back in the early 1900s or around there.

Your right, Im just refferring to more modern times though. I have a book in my room that shows an old looping wooden rollercoaster. Joker, I agree with you about SFGA probabbly not getting yet another massive coaster so soon.

Son of Beast is very close to Beast's Record. If SFGAdv builds a wood coaster that is thirty feet taller than Son of Beast, I would assume that it would beat The Beast's record.

I think its just sad. Not that our records might be broken - but that Six Flags has nothing better to do than copy what others have done and just make them a little bigger. I mean I guess they figure that if they build a TTD clone but make it a few feet taller - people will stop going to Cedar Point and go to GAdv instead. And if they beat SOBs record, people will forget all about SOB. I know there are many out there that would - but still - I must laugh at Six Flags.

If the Holiday World rumor is true - it is different. They would be breaking The Beast's record - but doing it because they are making a good coaster that just happens to be longer than Beast. It seems Six Flags sets out just to break records. Well if this whole thing is true, Six Flags will probably have to sell a few more parks to pay for this and the other upgrades for their other parks. laugh.gif

So that brings up another question. When will they run out of parks to sell? Which parks are their flagship parks that they will never sell? GAdv and MM? huh.gif

The only thing Beast beats about SOB is that its longer. You said if SOB was 30 feet taller that it would beat Beasts record. Thats not true, SOB is already taller and faster and is the 2nd longest woodie in the world. SF is getting sad.

Is Holiday World for sure going to build another woodie? They already have two woodies built by PTC maybe they will put in a steel that would be the longest. I noticed that Raven is ranked as the best woodie in the world, does it really beat The Beast?

I don`t see Holiday World adding anything BUT another woodie. I made my first visit to Holiday World this past weekend and had a blast. There two wooden coasters (especially the Legend) are awesome. While I don`t think they will break a record (although it wouldn`t completly surprise me if they do), I think it will be another high speed excellently designed coaster. I have an inkling that they may not have drifted too far when they picked who to design the new coaster, if it is in fact a wooden coaster. While CCI may be gone, there is another company that has popped up that is getting attention for a ride that just recently opened.

I have a question. Since when does it matter who holds the "record"? SOB holds a record, but it's a mediocre ride at best. What does it matter if The Beast's longest wooden coaster record is broken? Why are amusement parks (and fanboys) so hung up on having record breaking rides in the first place? Thunderhead at Dollywood isn't a record breaker, but I dare say that it contends for the best wooden coaster title in the country. It doesn't matter if a coaster is the highest or fastest or whatever, what matters is if it is a good ride. Having a good coaster comes first. If that coaster happens to be a record breaker, than great. If not, who cares....just market the crap out of it and it will sell as long as your park is a good product. If Six Flags wants the record, they can have it. I would much rather go to PKI and have some scenery and theming and decent food and customer service....than go to a McSixFlags park, wait in line for hours for their one train operations, wade through trash, choke on their food, and ride coasters that are rougher than they should be because of poor maintenance. PKI may or may not have the "record", but at least PKI has personality.

Another thing. The Intamin woodie may be coming, but who said that it would be 245 feet tall.....it's a rumor...just like the new Holiday World coaster will be the longest woodie is a rumor. We've barely started the 2005 season and rumors for next year are flying already.

I disagree about the Holiday World thing. Taking into account the cost of construction in the amusement industry today, there's no way they'd make their money back on it quickly enough for it not to hurt. Clearly the industry isn't looking for record breakers anymore, which is why PKI, with very few records left on the books, is the highest attended and highest rated seasonal theme park in the world.

I wish the best of luck to any other park that would like to break our records, but I still have my doubts. I don't think that people come to ride The Beast because it's the longest in the world, but rather because of the reputation that it has developed over the past 26 years of being an awesome ride.

On the other hand, it goes to show what monkeys are running Six Flags if they want to recreate our mistakes by building hyper-woodies.

Well, whether you guys want to believe it or not, it IS confirmed that SFGADV is building a wooden coaster next year. I don't know if it will break any records and neither does anyone else as the stats of the ride have not been released.

"On the other hand, it goes to show what monkeys are running Six Flags if they want to recreate our mistakes by building hyper-woodies."

But, you've never been on an Intamin Woodie and neither have most if not all people here. It is supposed to be THE smoothest wood coaster around. If Intamin can make a hyper woodie and it is rideable, then it can't be a mistake.

Ernie's got a point: i would much rather go to a well-themed park with GOOD rides than to a record-breaking, coaster-filled park with rides that dont even work.

the reason why Cedar Point and a few other parks with other record-breaking parks haven't died is because their coasters are actually GOOD. Six Flags coasters are a total piece of crap, and they just want to keep building more and more roller coasters until they have only one park left (which would probably be Magic Mountain).

holiday world is a perfect example of why record-breaking coasters don't have to be built; the Raven and Legend coasters are both some of the best well-designed rides I've ridden on. i believe that more parks are starting to shy away from "bigger, taller, faster" rides (the only exceptions being Kingda Ka and SheikRa) and are now creating show rides with amazing special effects and detailed stories. the best examples are Revenge of the Mummy at USF and IJ:ST here at PKI. Both rides, while not the fastest or biggest around, still pack a punch with their innovative design and attention to detail.

^Yes there is, check rcdb.com it confirms it, now the specs of the coaster are what hasn't been confirmed, its not actually sure to be built by intamin, although its very likely because the prefabricated board being sent to SFGADV is built by the company that Intamin uses for their wood coasters. Also it will occupy the land that is being vaccated by Viper, which is being torn down because its a TOGO piece of head banging crap.

HAHAHAHAHAHA WTF? Really, WTF. Since when did amusement parks need records to survive? PKI will not die because of a broken record. Also, RCDB says NOTHING on any of these rides beating any records at PKI. CoasterBuzz banned discussions of "Beast Killers" and I think we should to. Too many bleeping stupid people.
