PKI Tamar
Without those brakes, that airtime would be insane. I would like to ride Voyage. I have not been to Holiday World since 2003.
Braves0511
Last time I went was in 1996... I win.
Legend Rider
ok, so you rode Raven, one or two different years? the restraints are different... OK, its come time to view more construction... Yep, Phase "1" Continues... ...The second ascent is being made NOW!! Its going to drop 107 foot, so about 110 foot tall... Notice, 154 foot down, then only 107 up.... about 70% height, AIRTIME!! I cant wait!!
PKI Tamar
Yeah that does look pretty hot! I don't know which restraints were being used when I was there. I was there for Stark Raven Mad 2003. Haven't been back since. Raven with one click rides is pretty good though. I hope to get back there next year for the Voyage.

Face/OffJZ
it goes like sideways its gonna kick a**!!!!!! but The Beast is still better
Legend Rider
it goes like sideways its gonna kick a**!!!!!! Goes Sideways Twice! Once Each Way! but The Beast is still better Aggh! Have you ridden anything else!? Racer South is better than Beast, IMO, Even Beastie (A.K.A. Fairly Odd Coaster)
Vortex
you people are OBSESSED with Beast, It has brakes down the first drop, over the first hill, and in that small brake shed, its dissapointing, then when it gets going fast, you slow it down with another lift hill, where you simply wait, the excitement is lost there, there is more anticipation, but lord! I am so angry with Beast, it lets me down everytime... I know what to expect, but it just doesnt even live up to that!! Back in the old days The Beast was a good ride with no brakes down the frist drop and a lap bar. It has alot of air time. The Beast is still a good ride made with no computers or steal holding it up. TheRickster
Your rides will have brakes when they get older to.
Legend Rider
"...Was a Good Ride..." Vortex: What Airtime!? There is no Airtime on Beast!! The Voyage only has steel structure because, oh yeah, It was DESIGNED THAT WAY! And I hate to break it to you, beast does have a computer... why else would the lift proceed at different speeds? thanks sweetheart, I knew you'd understand... I dont think there are very many rides anymore that dont have a PLC of some scale... Action Zone: All Rides have a PLC, Coney: Most rides do at least have a PLC, for fact I know Monster does, Zephyr, Vortex, FoF, Action Theater, and im pretty sure Scrambler does, its was probably retrofitted in... Rivertown: IJST, yep, Beast, Yes, TRTR, DUH! Shall I continue? at Holiday World, There are several rides with PLCs... Raven, Falls, Legend, Swings, Rapids, Revolution, Howler, Doggone Trail, Liberty Launch. That is it... there are still classic rides they have that dont... Spider, Eagles, and the now defunct Tilt a Whirl. also the Scrambler... So, you can tell PLCs are everywhere, not just coasters, and a PLC doesnt make a ride bad... Raven for instance was better without the PLC, simply because you can do "doubles" but now they cant since the PLC is required to park the train... Sure PLC rides break easier, but that is also the compter's detection of vital components... such as Congo, if the sun is cooking the lens on a sensor on it, then it will go down, it is normal, it doesnt see the boat there.... PLCs are all about safety, and if it thinks it is unsafe, then it wont do it... PLCs are great! Rickster: Just Because Beast has trims and a billion blocks, dont expect that every wood coaster will or should for that matter... Most of you people ARE obsessed with beast, you like to boast its length and talk smack about all other woodies because they arent as long, a moderate sized coaster to any of you PKI folks is tiny, you think that just because it is short it isnt good. well, it may be a sexual note, but its not the size of the ship, but the motion of the ocean, and for me, I would take a nice ride on Top Gun any old day before Beast, I prefer the Gun... Well, I dont think this is getting anyone anywhere, I thought the topic of this post was The Voyage, and Since it is, We should talk about the Voyage... Gordon Bombay
Most of you people ARE obsessed with beast, Because it's darn good thats why. Ive ridden tons of wooden coasters as well as Legend and Raven, none have come close to The Beast. Theres just something about the tunnels, the woods, the drops, and the speed.
Legend Rider
Legend has more tunnels... I just happen to know for a fact that Beast had a small portion of track, about 10 feet, that was removed... for 7 days to be retracked, due to many people returning to the station with bleeding noses!! Scary stuff. So if you want to feed me the bullcrap about beast being so great... and Raven and legend not, and Voyage potentially being a let down... I dont happen to give any concern to your thought on that. Have you met the coaster maintenance crews at Holiday World? Sean and Heath do an excellent Job, and Louise is currently on hand, tracking the Voyage and giving more pointers on how to do so... He has demonstrated with Raven about how to do the job right... Compare the smooth track of Raven and Legend to the gravel rought track of Racer North, Beast, SoB... you get it... stop nagging me about Voyage, just stop downtalking it, Im sure it will be excellent. RailRider
Lets just hope that the steel structure on Voyage does not cause roughness like it does on Villian. Given thats not the only reasson that ride is rough, but it is a major factor.
TheKlockster
Coney: Most rides do at least have a PLC, for fact I know Monster does, Zephyr, Vortex, FoF, Action Theater, and im pretty sure Scrambler does, its was probably retrofitted in.. You might want to check your sources. PLC is a Programmable Logic Controller - it is a high powered computer. Carnie Rides do not have PLCs... LOL They have systems of automation but not PLCs. PLCs are used in multi-point saftey systems and ride enables, as well as multi-block operation. So basically - Roller Coasters and extremely complicated and large flat rides. Legend Rider
my bad, I was assuming that the computers mentioned at the rides were PLC's, Sorry. I can admit...
TheRickster
Once a ride gets to a certain age it has to be it has to be taken down a level some to make it safer, and to reduce the load on the structure etc. Trust me the coasters at holdiay world will get them eventually to. The only ones that dont are the really old out and backs, and twisters that do not put as much stress onto the structure. I would love to talk with you off of here sometime about this stuff. TRTR Guy
I believe most of the coney rides are "hard automated"
Legend Rider
I have heard that the Voyage will only optimize the trim brakes when the ride gets a bit older... there will be trims in the already noted safety brake area, just before the triple down, and thats it... Raven was intended to go no more than about 48 miles per hour-ish, and legend about 55, however, each are hitting and exceeding 60 miles per hour... its as if they have no friction in the bearings. One time I was there and I overheard a guy say "I just couldn't get any more grease to go in the bearings..." Its awesome... the speed of those two are great, just think, if Voyage went 70? King Bowser
I wonder which coaster will have a bigger fanbase Voyage or Everest? they both seem to be huge winners of course voyage may have more airtime while everest will be highly themed to the littlest detail. Legend Rider
Does this look like an Everest Topic? Clearly... Voyage

Legend Rider
True but voyage isnt the only huge coaster coming in 2006.. However, This is the Voyage Topic, and It is the Closest Huge Coaster, and Oh Yeah, this is not an EE Topic...
King Bowser
well holiday world may be close to you..but for some of us Universal and Disney are closer whats wrong with EE I know I may be getting off topic but EE will totally rock. Legend Rider
Regardless... the Voyage Will be awesome... This is a perspective from the Indian River Canoe Ride, and anybody that has visited the park might be able to see just why this picture makes me sad, there is a small vacant area near the Funnel Cake Factory, there used to be a purple rail and blue floor, a Tilt-a-Whirl was once there, being shipped off to another park/fair. Thus, my home tilt-a-whirl is gone... I'm Sad. Im also more sad that the New Tilt-a-Whirl has been cancelled, so the section will only be Gobbler Getaway and Voyage. However, there is a special Treat Popping up back there...
TheKlockster
So the trains at HW are kept well lubed... So what if Voyage reaches 70? It won't be 78.9 now will it?

Thats not necessarily true. It has nothing to do with the ride's age and everything to do with the Park's willingness to maintain it. Raven is now 10 years old, it still runs like its brand new.....actually better than when it was brand new. I don't forsee either Raven or Legend being toned down anytime soon. You're talking about a park that actually PRIDES itself on having two top ten wood coasters. Funny thing is, back in the day when Jeff was still around at HW, he would always be LOOKING for ways to shave some time off the Legend circuit and increase the speed. We'll never see that at PKI. :-/ Just some thoughts.
