Keton Kove

It was sorta like a LogFlume but more intense and longer..I miss Kenton Keelboat goodtimes goodtimes. smile.gif

are you sure about that, I think he's talking about over on the left. plus the track is slanted downward towards where it is split. I don't remember these too well, so i may be wrong.

There are two tracks so the boats could shift over to one drop, hold while waiting for the boat that just dropped from the other shute and then drop. This was almost never used if I remember correctly. Thats why they have a ride op at the top of the drop like Thornberries. They make sure that a boat dosnt drop right ontop of another.

If you look at the picture you see that the loading platform is just about identical to WWC's. So when somebody gets off a boat, another gets on. If they do this quick enough it can jam things up. Notice the two boats on the lift?

I'm pretty sure that if you had about 4 boats on the lift at once then you would need to use the separate drop.

Right, if they were running the ride at full capacity, they would need to use both drops to allow for safe clearance between the boats at the drop. Naturally, the boats will travel faster at the drop, so it was a safety feature. They almost rarely used both drops the last couple of years, because they weren`t using all of the boats.

I did not get to ride Keton Kove. Was it a good water ride? Did you get wet?

How tall was it. It looks like a fun ride.

No, you didn`t get as wet on KCKC as you do on Thornberrys. Especially with the added effects of the coconuts and that darn elephant. BTW, it is Kenton`s Cove, not Keton`s.

The ride was just as stated before -- more or less Wild Thormberrie's without the extra squirting effects. The ride was fun, but the most distinct thing I remember was how they had the turntable-style loading platform.

Yes, that made for some fast loading. The last couple of seasons, the ride was really starting to show its age. I wasn`t surprised to see it removed. I knew that they would either be having to renovate it or remove it soon. Its always sad to see rides go, but we got quite a unique installation with TR:TR.

I miss Kenton's Cove. I loved how high in the air you were during the ride. It was always a peaceful diversion, until the drop anyway! I rode it many times back in the 80's, and I never got really wet on it.

I do remember that the Wild Thornberrie's flume, long before the Wild Thornberrie's remake, seemed to get you a lot wetter on at the bottom of the hill than it does now. I really do remember that the splash alone could get you quite wet alone. It seems much tamer now, and the actual drop really does not get you that wet. (It is the darn elephant that soaks you now!) But I do vividly remember that drop on the pre-Thornberries flume was wetter in the past. I do not know if they made the splash a little tamer when they did the Thornberries remake, or if it is a function of age (I remember the wetter drops from the mid-80's!)

I road it several hundred times at least. KCKC was one of my favorite rides and no you did not get very wet because at the bottom of the hill was what is called the hydrolaunch, a small hump in the track. This way the boats would not splash into the water. You would get may some drops but nothing major. They hadnt used both sides in many many years. My brother and I used to ride it time after time because you wouldnt get wet. The exit was right where tomb raiders is, right next to RPW.

^Yea, the ride was called the Arrow Hydroplane flume or something like that. It was different from the average flume with the features already mentioned of the revolving loading station, two drop chutes and the ramp that caused the "hydroplane" giving the ride its name, so you didn't get as wet as a normal flume and you traveled further, faster from the momentum of the drop since all wasn't lost as soon as you hit the water.

Cedar Point is getting rid of their version this year as well, so it appears that this style of flume, which I enjoyed more is beginning to disappear.

^I remember when you had all that speed and you hit that hydroplane ramp it was a pretty rough bump.

I really enjoyed the ride of it. You were in the tree tops and just a nice peaceful ride, or at least that is what I thought when I 1st rode it............until I saw a huge drop! wacko.gif

Great Ride that really should have lasted for ever. Very sad to have seen it removed. Maybe they can remove SOB and put in a flume that is similar to it.

what happen there?

This is kind of off-topic, but I noticed on CP's White Water Landing page, they list the manufacturer as Arrow Huss, Inc. (currently Arrow Dynamics, Inc., Clearfield, Utah).

Arrow and Huss used to be part of the same company back in '82??? I never knew that.

Yes Cedar Point will be taken their Arrow Hydroplane flume out after this season. So does Kings Island have the only flume in the area?

Nope, Americana still has what I would consider the most AMAZING log flume in the entire world. That and splash mountain. Holiday world also has a log flume.

Frightful Falls at Holiday World is probably one of the only Log Flumes I have been on that only the Lift and Chute aren't natural looking, should I show in pictures?

Notice that this is somewhat how Wild Thornberrys looks like, it is a prefabricated trough placed with supports, Frightful Falls is not like this, rather it has a concrete trough all throughout the underground tunnel and all the way to the lift. the lift and chute are the only portions that were "Pre-Fab"

This ride could actually be infinitely many reconfigured... since it is only concrete.

That pic is bigger than my Computer screen, you might want to shrink it just a bit.
