Paramount considering buying Dreamworks

Er thats Finding Nemo and thats a Pixar film not a dreamworks film.

HUH? Okay I'm like totally confused isnt Shrek and Madgascar characters walk-around characters,Rides etc entitled to an exclusive contract with IOA/Universal?

they could be free agents, meaning anyone can use them, as long as they have purchased the rights to it...

Although, I would love to see nemo stuff around too!!

A few things to keep in mind...

1) Universal currently has the theme park rights for use of Shrek, etc. They're unlikely to voluntarily give them up unless someone is willing to pay BIG bucks to buy out their contract.

2) I don't believe that the animation studios are included in this deal--only the live action studio. Dreamworks spun off the animation division via an IPO as its own stand-alone company last Spring. So, they are now actually two separate companies. Shrek, Madacascar, etc. are franchises of the animation studio--not the live action studio.

One of the main reasons NBC-Universal hadn't completed the deal was because the animation studio wasn't part of it, and they didn't think the value of the live action studio warranted the cost.

UPDATE...

Yeah, found this story on Reuters...it is just the live action studio they'd be buying. The deal would give them rights to distribute films from the animation unit, but they wouldn't own it:
