jzarley Posted December 9, 2005 Share Posted December 9, 2005 A few things to keep in mind... 1) Universal currently has the theme park rights for use of Shrek, etc. They're unlikely to voluntarily give them up unless someone is willing to pay BIG bucks to buy out their contract. 2) I don't believe that the animation studios are included in this deal--only the live action studio. Dreamworks spun off the animation division via an IPO as its own stand-alone company last Spring. So, they are now actually two separate companies. Shrek, Madacascar, etc. are franchises of the animation studio--not the live action studio. One of the main reasons NBC-Universal hadn't completed the deal was because the animation studio wasn't part of it, and they didn't think the value of the live action studio warranted the cost. UPDATE... Yeah, found this story on Reuters...it is just the live action studio they'd be buying.
