Captain Nemo
PKI.com has once again come up with new teaser pics on their site. Avatar can be seen in place and the Planktons Plunge. is seen upright in place. Watch as NU grows! NU March 20th 2006 ~Just noticed that someone made a post in another topic about it, oh well it could use it's own topic. Reclaimer
I'm glad you did make a new topic about it... When I made that other post, the only thing on that page was Plankton's Plunge. Maureen must be putting these up, like, right now. FTP'D!!!
Captain Nemo
Looking closer at the pics I found that what looks to be the Queue line goes under the hump on the Avatar ride. I'm unsure if Planktons Pluge is in it's final place, But thats my judgement that it is right next to slimezone. You can see how big the track really is in one of those pics. Avator may be a ride for little ones, but it's no small ride. lol ~2 pics has been added.~ Edited March 20, 2006 by Captain Nemo
RollerNut
Honestly, I don't think it is a kiddy ride. Just the middle hill is as big as the Carowinds Taxi Chase(15 feet roughly).
teenageninja
Look at all the carnival rides they are cute! Just kidding. Nick U is looking really good, I didn't think Avatar was that big, and I'm glad they have 2 sides on Plankton's Plunge that'll help capacity a lot. CoastersRZ
Yeah, the double sides will definantely improve capacity. If the ride is as popular as the Frog Hopper at Coney, the ride will be a huge hit with kids!
harvesterofyoursorrow
Eeek! Blue track!!

UncleHenry
I don't see how anyone could call those carnival rides. I mean, just look at Avatar! That's rather large for a kid coaster.
teenageninja
If it's a coaster it's a shuttle, it goes up a hill over a hump and back down. Not knocking the ride just not sure if I'd call it a coaster.
PKI Punk
Just for clarification, a Disk-o is not considered a coaster. But anyway, things are coming along nicely. There may be an entire Bikini Bottom area if Slime maze becomes spongebob and Planktons Plunge next to it.
CoastersRZ
Well, the park hasn`t been calling it a roller coaster. And it is not listed on rcdb as a roller coaster. It is sort of a cross between a flat ride and a roller coaster. Now Paramount`s Great America is refering to their Survivor ride as a roller coaster, and the only difference is the ride vehicle. It does have wheels and rolls, but is doesn`t really coast since it is powered. I would tend to say that the ride is a flat ride more than a coaster. UncleHenry
When the press release for NU came out, it was called a coaster. It was on RCDB for awhile, but then word that it was a disko hit RCDB came out, they took it off. It is a rollercoaster though. The official model name for this large disko is a "Disko Coaster". Zamperla calls it a coaster, PKI calls it a coaster. If Superman: The Escape is considered a coaster on RCDB, so should Avatar.
CoastersRZ
Yes. Very true. It kind of blurs the line between what is a coaster and what is not a coaster.
WooferBearATL
Yes. Very true. It kind of blurs the line between what is a coaster and what is not a coaster. Then let me clear it up. It certainly may be a cool ride for kids and family, but it certainly is not a rollercoaster.
UncleHenry
Yes. Very true. It kind of blurs the line between what is a coaster and what is not a coaster. Then let me clear it up. It certainly may be a cool ride for kids and family, but it certainly is not a rollercoaster. And your proof for this is? Just because it is small, doesn't mean it isn't a coaster. Superman: The Escape in SFMM has even less tower/hills, it only has ONE! Yet that is considered a coaster on RCDB because of its size. It most certainly IS a coaster, just a smaller one. BoddaH1994
I agree... I think it's more like a spinning wild mouse than a flat ride.
Firefall Pkd
If the Disk'o Coaster isn't a coaster then neither is Wicked Twister (or any other Intamin Impulse Coaster), and along with what was already mentioned Superman The Escape. Just cause it doesn't fit into the perfect little cookie cutter idea of what a coaster is doesn't make it not one, this industry (ride design) is about trying to step outside the box. Try to think like that.
CoastersRZ
Very good point with the impulse coasters! Is the powered mine ride up at Canada`s Wonderland considered a roller coaster?
Flying Eagles 1972-2004
Powered rides have to have SOME gravity sections to be considered a coaster. S:TE falls back down the towers. So do the Intamin Impulses and Half-Pipes. Avatar will be powered the entire ride and does not count.
WooferBearATL
Yeah, along those lines - Dodgems and Tumble Bug are a great roller coasters! <G>

So do the Intamin Impulses and Half-Pipes. Avatar will be powered the entire ride and does not count. Avatar will have some gravity sections. The hill in the middle will provide it with some gravity so yes its a coaster just a different kinda coaster. Also some free fall towers are coasters also like the one at Cedar Point. I think that one has a lift hill and falls just like superman.
CoastersRZ
But I do believe that Cedar Point does not consider Demon Drop as a roller coaster (nor does RCDB consider Demon Drop as a roller coaster).
UncleHenry
Yeah, along those lines - Dodgems and Tumble Bug are a great roller coasters! <G> Dodgems doesn't have track, or run on gravity... DEE DEE DEE
WooferBearATL
Dodgems doesn't have track, or run on gravity... DEE DEE DEE So what about Tumble Bug? DEE DEE DEE (?)
UncleHenry
Dodgems doesn't have track, or run on gravity... DEE DEE DEE So what about Tumble Bug? DEE DEE DEE (?) Doesn't use gravity if I'm thinking about the right ride.
The Interpreter
You will never agree on what is or is not a coaster. Count what you want. Or not. It only matters to the extent you think it matters. Heck, there are those who claim Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America has inversions, for crying out loud!
WooferBearATL
Doesn't use gravity if I'm thinking about the right ride. Uses combination of both gravity and motor driven trains that go around in a circle.
SharkGuy
So is Danny Phantom Flyers up? Plankton;s Plunge looks okay cant wait to see the area when its finished... but I & the kids gotta admit we hate Avatar why couldnt they themed the diskO to Spongebob? also I am totally let down that the water maze is still standing I hope this spongebob retheme is done well enough to entertain the kids so I can relax.
