Outdoor Man
Ok, this may have already been discussed, and if it has, sorry. But I just got off the phone with a Kings Island PR Rep. We were trying to help some family from out of town schedule their time in Ohio to include Winterfest. The lady on the other end of the phone (a Kings Island PR rep)- said the just last week they made the decision to not hold the Winterfest event this year. RIP Winterfest (again). Flying Eagles 1972-2004
A PR rep would not say that over the phone until after an official announcement was made...
TOPGUN1993
I'm sad WF is not coming back but at the same time I'm happy because my WF posters will become a rare PKI thing. Pictures
Flying Eagles 1972-2004
IT IS NOT THE TRUTH YET. NOTHING a phone rep says prior to any official announcements is worth two craps. It's no different than getting info from a seasonal.
standbyme
Not that I am saying that you weren't told Winterfest has been cancelled...but I pre-paid several tickets and so far I have not received an e-mail telling me that it is not happening and that a refund is forthcoming...so i'm still holding out hope. Captain Picard
With what has been said on here I think it's safe to say it's canceled.
The Interpreter
There have been those of us who have been trying to say the handwriting is on the wall for some time. Still, we won't know for sure until a refund announcement is made. . . and that might be a while.
BoddaH1994
Nothing is finalized until it is announced. A friend of mine called a few days ago and they said they would start selling tickets again in October.. but who really knows. Expect an annoucement a lot earlier than you guys are anticipating. The Interpreter
It may not even be final after it is announced. After all, CBS announced they were having Winterfest this year and even sold tickets. . . Then there is the matter of the coaster named Mantis...that is not what was announced! Captain Nemo
This news is very sad to hear. Last Winterfest was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of it. Well, it was great the year we had it, to bad it can't continue.
CoastersRZ
I heard that they have indeed cancelled it this year as well due to a lack of making money. I guess we will find out soon enough. It`s ashame they aren`t giving it another go, with lower pricing. I think that one of the biggest mistakes they made was not including it with the season pass. People were reluctant to pay close to $20 a person and then spend more money on food. If they included it with the season pass like they now do with FearFest, they might have had more in park spending and made more money. Outdoor Man
The person I talked to was a call-center manager. If you want to see for yourself, call the PKI Guest Relations line listed on the PKI site. I even emailed the question to the paramount parks "contact us"- i called because I figured it would take weeks to hear back... but got the email return within hours. I'm as sad as anyone to hear this. it is unforntunate and I hope it is because of the buyout and re-masking details to take place over the off-season and that they'll bring this back around in 07. Browntggrr
If Winterfest was a big hit last year, then there would be no doubt that CF would still have it. Unfortunately, it was not well planned and many were disappointed with the price vs. value factor. CF has already accomplished more than we thought could have happened so far. Taking on a project like Winterfest with the added goal of changing the general public's attitude on it so that it will be well attended would be difficult. It could be for just this year and that gives CF over a year to plan for it in '07. But is it really cancelled? An announcment like this is not made over the telephone. Even though this park representative made the statement, I question what they actually know.
WooferBearATL
Well there was an email from Guest Relations posted last night before the site went down.
italianchef
Until an "official" announcement is made, rumors will fly back and forth. It's best that we just wait to learn the the truth. And my guess is that CF hasn't even "officially" made up its mind yet. Hence, we have this speculation. Have a great day! But honestly, does anyone think that CF has the balls to try to pull Winterfest off?
hauntguy
^ You know how many lawsuits they will have because SO MANY people have already bought tickets to the event! -Hauntguy
The Interpreter
Ridiculous. No event is ever guaranteed. And a refund for an event that isn't even scheduled until December is the most anyone could hope for. Concerts are often cancelled at the last possible moment, for a variety of reasons. Lawsuits? Over not having WinterFest? Chill.
Outdoor Man
You're right, it's not canceled... i made the whole thing up in my head. like I said, you don't believe me... email guest relations... the email address is clearly on the website. Want verbal... call the guest relations line. the email and numbers are clearly listed on the PKI website. I've already been scheduled a refund on my tickets. You want proof on that, I'll post the receipt when it comes in. want me to draw a picture, I'll do that too.... folks, the event is canceled. ragerunner
I really hope that Cedar Fair gives Winterfest a chance. While I agree that it was over priced, it was still great to know that you could go to PKI all the way through December. Anytime an even keeps PKI open long is a good event to me. Since Cedar Point is their flagship park, maybe they will take all othe Winterfest props from Carowinds and PKI and move them to Cedar Point to show the rest of us that Cedar Point is their main focus. Outdoor Man
it will be interesting to see how KI fares with CF at the helm. KI has always been the "favored" child under KECO and PP.... now it is no longer in creative competition with our cousin to the north. Now part of the same family. I can't help but wonder that now that the "competition factor" is gone... how will each try to improve each other? It probably makes sense from a corporate stance to not have winterfest this year. Re-masking, re-naming, letting dust settle from the SOB incident... will there be lawsuits? how many? how much? tear it down? keep it up? fix it? etc... there is probably a lot to go through from November till March and the headache of spending 6-weeks to dress up a park for a 5 week event may be more than they want to pursue this year. Maybe we will have a return in 2007.
CoastersRZ
Well, those may be factors, but I heard that the reason it is likely going to be cancelled is lack of money from the event. Which primarily was a result of them overpricing admission into it last year. A thing that they were rectifying with the admission tickets for only $9.99.
Outdoor Man
for the most part I agree with that. It was WAY overpriced last year... and maybe they will give it another shot... just not this year.

CBS/Paramount Parks never intended to keep selling WinterFest tickets for 9.99. The price was intended to go up as the event neared, much like season pass prices do as the season nears. I think the primary reason they sold tickets at 9.99 was to have something to cite to the as of then yet unknown new owners as the reason "the show must go on." Well intentioned, but it apparently did not work. . .
Outdoor Man
or evaluate the event based on how pre-sales went. who knows. I wouldn't lose hope for 2007 though.
CoastersRZ
Yeah, I definantely agree that it deserves another shot. Whether Cedar Fair will ever give it a second shot is the question.
The Interpreter
Uh, last year was the second shot. You mean whether or not Cedar Fair will give it a third shot is the question... Or a second shot at Carowinds....
CoastersRZ
I know it would technically be a third shot. But I was referring to the fact that it would be the second shot for the latest incarnation of WinterFest that originated under Paramount/CBS, and not the original one instituted under Taft.
