Top Gun THeming

I vaugly remember what was underneath...The main thing was a mock (I hope) of some fancy bombs in cases on either side of the que. As you pass by, fog rose up an into the station (pretty sweet effect). Aside from that, generic aircraft carrier theming.

Well, originally, the area underneath the station had a height check station. This was staffed by a member of the ride crew. The height check station was rather pointless since it was so far into the line. Needless to say, it was decided to not staff that height check area and hence the area underneath the station was closed off to guests. I don`t know the exact year, but I want to say around 1997 or 1998.

Yeah. But as I said in my post, it doesn`t make much sense to have the greeter/height check stand so far into the line. Like on Son of Beast and Flight of Fear, they are stationed at the beginning of the line. Which makes sense if there is someone too short to ride, they are told by a worker they are too short before waiting in a line.

Does anyone have pictures of the old queue? I've never seen it and would love to.

When they 'changed' the queues, did they just take out the part below the station, or did the queue used to go through the bottom of the station and then go up to the loading platform a different way?

As you go towards the actual ride structure itself, you'd make a left instead of a right. From there it would zig zag through the area under the station and would let out at the bottom of the same steps we use today.

Whenever you walk through the line and get ready to go up the stairs you can look in and see where you use to go in and the under the station to wait in line. In the past it has had fog and other special effects when you leave the station. It was supposed to simulate an aircraft taking off from an aircraft carrier.

I remember riding Top Gun soon after it first opened. It was a pretty neat experience. Cool TG music throughout the queue, the billboard had jet coming out of it, everyone in flight suits, going through all the effects in the queue building. It was neat.
