Any word on the shows which will be part of the 2007 season? I worked in the live shows for a few years and we opened the doors the day the park opened in the spring and closed the last day of the park closing. I am hoping the quality of the shows improve this year. Back in 95 and 96 they had the house of groove show and retro repeat the beat at international showplace, it added to the atmosphere when the shows started up and you could here it all over. Now most of the time it looks so bare. Also at international showplace on the sides there are the peach covered door screens. those were sent from the warehouse in S.C. last year i noticed they were ripped and dry rotting, how sad it was to see. Also in Nick at the stage when i was a performer there they had the stage, looks like now they took out all the seats and filled it in with concrete to make a level surface, another disappointment on my end. Bring back the shows in the nature they are meant to be, an awesome, talk-able event they use to be.......

Have some patience. I`m sure they will announce the show lineup for 2007 in good time.

For Christmas, I received the book "Amusement Parks of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky" by Robert J. Wimberg. While I`ve only read the parts on Coney Island, the Cincinnati Zoo, Kings Island and Stricker`s Grove so far, the one theme, especially for Coney and the Zoo, is the amount of live entertainment they had in the parks. Especially from around the 1900s all the way up through the `60s. Every year they would have musical productions and shows, all throughout the season (which was essentially Memorial day through the earlu days of September). Some of these musical performances had casts of about 300 people and were rather big productions. From the book, they seemed to be as big of a draw as the actual rides themselves. The biggest festivities seemed to be on the 4th of July, when they would have huge shows and celebrations recalling war battles from overseas.

It is really ashame that this kind of live entertainment, for the most part, has taken a back seat at Kings Island. True, times have changed, and people no longer want to go to an amusement park or zoo to see an opera (like they used to do at the Cincinnati Zoo until 1971 when the Opera moved to the newly air conditioned Music Hall). But it would be nice to see a remphasis on live entertainment at the park. Live shows can bring people in just as much as the rides. And, the shows can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Wheras some of the roller coasters will alienate the youngsters too short to ride, and the senior citizens who want calmer forms of entertainament.

Well if they do the same thing they do at Cedar Point the Shows will run from Memorial Day (may 28) till Labor Day (sept 3).

Yes. If I recall, Scholl of Rock didn`t even last until Labor Day this past year. It closed down the weekend before Labor day, with the close of daily operations I believe.

They closed it cause they couldnt find people who knew how to play guitar. Its sad kids of today love the sound of electronic drums and a beat from a yamaha keyboard.

This generation dont want to take the time to learn how to play an instrament where it takes hard work and REAL talent. Anyone can dress like a thug, grab your own nuts, and shout profanities in a microphone.

Ask any of those rappers like 25 cents or m and m how to read music and see the dumb look an thier face.

Hey I'd be glad to play guitar at Kings Island on a couple conditions...

A) I get paid a real entertainer/musicians wage

B) I don't have to wear a totally ridiculous outfit

The pay for a musician at Cedar Point isn't bad, and I've thought more than once about an audition, however Cedar Point is a little far for me and to be totally honest, the music in the shows are pure cheese. I've never seen rock and roll classics get more of a hack job than they do at the America Rocks show at CP. Totally cheesed out, totally neutered, and soulless. Did anyone ever catch the horrendous sight of Celine Dion singing You Shook Me All Night Long on TV a few years back??? Yea it reminds me of that. If anyone upstairs reads these boards....please quit crucifying perfectly good music by mixing it with pseudo-broadway crap. If you want to have a rock music showcase, then hire real rock musicians and lose the barbershop quartet (or more) of lead singers.

I also miss all of the shows. People like my father really enjoyed the shows, especially beings they were not able to ride the thrill rides. The shows were a change of pace and offered great entertainment for all. I most enjoyed the clown band and was going to audition for it. There were shows of all types through out the park. When Paramount took over, there seeme to had been a change of direction in live shows, especially the past couple of years. Now that CF has taken over, I think that the direction will change.

Ummm....no, not true at all. They closed the show on that weekend because that is when the show was scheduled to close for this year.

Beyond that I will ignore the comments about them not being able to find people who can play the guitar. PKI found some very talented musicians over the last 2 years to play in the School of Rock show, and the music was live.....not some cheesy backing track like most of the other shows you will find in theme parks (including Disney and Universal).

I will agree with people listening to/enjoying music that has been processed beyond belief and not having any respect for real talent anymore. However....the musicians in both casts of School of Rock have not been those types of people, in fact most of them play in bands outside the park, including 2 or 3 that have played in bands who have signed with labels and have recorded for CDs.

^I'll second what shman said, a lack of talented musicians was definently not the case in any situation at the School of Rock show. PKIC had the wonderful oppourtunity of speaking with Scott Hayward, one of the entertainment employees, many times and got to meet several of the actors. There were a few times in the season when you would even see the actors switch instruments and roles and they always did a fine job. As a musician myself every now and then I would notice little musical slips and mess ups on the guitar but those guys always really impressed by how well they recovered and improvised. School of Rock was one of the best darn shows I've ever seen in an amusement park.

Nor was it the real reason. The real reason, as was stated, is that that is when CBS had planned to end the shows for the year, and Cedar Fair DID NOT change it. CBS was on a real cost cutting binge.

I saw the shows last year at Kings Dominion, Carowinds (many, many times) and Kings Island. I must say School of Rock had excellent musicians at all three. And that those musicians had committed to play for the period at the beginning of the show season and did.

I wish I could say that I know that Cedar Fair will improve the shows at Kings Island. I hope that they do. I can't say that though. You see, I have seen the shows at Dorney, Knott's, Valleyfair, Cedar Point, Geauga Lake and Worlds of Fun many times (I was a passholder at the latter for quite some time). I cannot say that I have been impressed with even one of them.

I will agree whole-heartedly, the park needs more than one show. This past year was very dissapointing, but again pretty much knew that was going to happen with the cost cutting tactics CBS was taking.

I can tell you this much though, we are going to see an improvement in the entertainment department this year. From what I've heard there is going to be more shows.....and the return of somethings everyone is going to enjoy.

BRING BACK THE DOLPHIN SHOW!!! -Hauntguy

Since CP got rid of their's a few years back, I doubt we'll see the dolphin show returning any time soon at KI either. Kinzel also made it pretty clear after the purchase of SFWOA that CF had no desire to be in the "zoo business."

Remember when pretty much every theme park had some sort of dolphin or animal show? I imagine the regulations for wildlife exhibits have probably become so stringent now that it's difficult to do unless that is your speciality...

A couple things,

After nosing around the Paramount park web sites, it looks like Kings Island, Canada's Wonderland, and Carowinds are getting the Ice skating shows. I have no clue as to the Great America Park.

Kings Dominion is getting "Twisting to the 60's" show. This was produced at Cedar Point back in the 2004-2005 seasons. The show won some type of award. The other three shows at KD are kid oriented shows. It would be nice to have another adult oriented show in the line-up for 2007. But, the entertainment department will be a work in progress for some time to come. I realize we probably will never see the 10 to 12 show productions that happened back in the Pre-Paramount days. Hopefully, we will see another show or two added to the season line-up in the furture.

Also, the main stage show, "Twisting to the 60's" is running from Memorial Day weekend through September 23rd. I don't know if KD will have a show during FearFest in October.

Now that's really smart! Why spend the time and money developing the content for a brand new show, when you can "repurpose" a proven successful one at a different park? Especially since the same people who will watch the show at KD probably have no previous knowledge of the version done at CP, and it will be brand new to them.

^ Yeah, "Celebration" ran for at least two seasons if not three. (I'm sure Woofer can remember <g>). That is my second favorite theme park show of all time (with the first being "Festival of the Lion King" at DAK.)

I even seem to remember having a "Celebration" cast album at one point that they sold at the park. (Although, my memory is a little fuzzy on that one...) I need to dig through all the old records at my mom's house to see if I can find it.

I actually have the Celebration Cast Album.

Celebration was the only show that ran for two years in a row. (Other than Salt Water Circus.) The other shows were always under different names and retooling.

American Heritage Music Hall Always had a Broadway Style Show. (There were so many variations - From Rock Around the Clock to Celebration, To Encore) The International Showplace was more of a location for true singing artists. There would be a Country Show, A Pop Show and A Character Show.

Festhaus has run the Gambit. It's run Omm Pah Pah Shows to Ice Shows.

Ahhhh, We'll get back there.
