Firehawk 2007 - Going Up

I drive by KI every day on the way to and from work. It's cool to see the track sitting in the parking lot, half painted, half not.

I noticed on the way back from Home Depot yesterday, that the cranes are working overtime in the distance. I also spotted some curved track rising above the park. I'll try to get some pictures today, but to the right of the Flight of Fear, you can see part of the curved track already assembled.

In the parking lot, most of the track has been painted red, though some is still green. There are also some supports left.

I drive my wife crazy driving down I-71, "keep your eyes on the road" she says as I'm constantly looking at the park for any changes.

I know Captain Nemo took some pics from there earlier this year. So as far as I know, if you want to take pictures from the drop off area, you can.

I've been taking photos from Dropoff for 3+ years now. They keep those vending machines stocked and payphones active all year, and I see people there using them occasionally.

I even had a guard go by wave at me as I was there taking photos, so I'd say you won't have a problem.

How much track is still in the parking lot?

they have about 10-15 support beams in the front of the parking lot. It's hard to tell how much track is there, since they put the track towards the back of the lot. From what I can tell, though, the painted track is pushed to the right, while the unpainted ones are placed on the left side. (as you're looking at the park from the road)

If time permits, I'll head down there after work to take some pictures today.

The "red" coloring you're seeing is just a primer, the track will be painted the dark red color once it has been erected.

I would think that it would be easier to prime and paint before it goes up? Wouldn't this also ensure that no parts are missed? Why would they do such a thing?

Also- does anyone have any thoughts on riding a ride "after" it's been broken in? i.e. - waiting until the second week of opening before riding the Firehawk? I'm thinking I might have seen this in another topic, but it applies to Firehawk as well.

The track pieces are painted after they're up to avoid damaging the paint during construction.

The ride is already broken in. In fact, even a brand new ride is pretty well broken in before anyone from the public gets to ride it. Ohio state law requires that the train be cycled hundreds of times before riders and even get on.

So Firehawk construction is what you seek,

but chances of that are pretty meek,

well not to lose our update streak,

we may have photos within the week.

Nice poem! FYI - I did see someone at the drop off taking pictures yesterday...perhaps this person may have something to do with your poem?

My poem would be:

Not to far the Island be

To the drop off I will see

with camera in hand and memory

pictures pictures, all for free

--Mine wasn't as good

I'm sure that all the wheels have been changed since the ride last operated in 2006. Given that, the state requires each train to do 'x' amount of cycles (if anyone knows, please let us know) for safety reasons, and probably with water dummies simulating the weight of a full train of guests. These cycles for each train would be numerous, so chances are, the trains will have been broken in to the track.

I would not worry about the ride being broken in. What maybe frustrating though, if KI runs the cycles during normal hours that guests are in the park. Most guests may not understand why the ride is operating, but w/o any guests.

Good poem, but you're dealing with KIC here... do you think we'd really bother to update with something as 'public eye-ish' as the dropoff center?

Touche! This site is amazing, so I doubt any pictures taken from the drop off will be as good...either way...it's exciting!!

--And I stop by KIC every day! You'll always get props from me!

Wouldn't there be signs that let guests know that the ride is being tested?

Yes, but there's a word that starts with an R and ends with a D which people seems to loose the ability to do when in groups.

At the entrance to the ride, KI would probably station an employee that has just the bare minimum of information, like replying that the ride is being tested.

I was more referring to guests noticing elsewhere in the park (i.e. On top of Eiffel Tower, top of Drop Zone, Racers etc.) that the ride was operating, then high tailing it to the ride, just to find out that it is not operating.

I will also bet that most of the employees of the park will agree that guests pay no attention to park signs at all. ;)

I know it's been said many times on all websites, but many guest do seem to leave their brains at the front gate or at home.
