Delirium - Why wasn't this ride Paramount Movie Themed?

They were always headquartered in Charlotte. KECO moved their headquarters from Kings Island to Charlotte in 1986. When they were bought by Paramount, that office building remained the Paramount Parks corporate headquarters. -

I thought I read somewhere that initial developments would've seen either Flight of Fear or another attraction in Area 72 themed to Star Trek and/or specifically the Borg. It was possibly a new attraction for the Firehawk/Orion plot; although, I may be thinking of a similar Starfleet Academy attraction developed for Kings Dominion's King Kobra/I-305/Pantherian plot of land. Volcano: The Blast Coaster was likely only themed to a volcano because it used the old Lost Mountain structure. I believe it was one of the last Taft/KECO additions to the park as well. Carowinds did get a relocated Stealth for 2004 and renamed it as the Borg Assimilator (complete with the giant Borg Sphere in the water). Kings Dominion's Star Trek attraction was cancelled at some point. Does anyone know if Paramount Parks were always headquartered in Charlotte, or was there a time when they were headquartered closer to Kings Island? Interestingly enough it seems their old HQ building was one parking lot over from where the Cedar Fair Charlotte offices would then be located, and where it seems the official new Six Flags Home Office HQ is. It's kind of fun to see that the corporate offices have seemingly been in that same office park for 25 years now. KECO once had a trademark holder address at P.O. Box 300 Kings Island, Ohio. There were also a ton of initial trademarks addressed to Taft Broadcasting's former homes on Highland Ave. (Local 12) and Young St. (WLWT 5) around the Mt. Auburn in Cincinnati. -
Michigan's Adventure has been in the process of smoothing their wood coasters and doing some other general improvements to the park, but they just haven't received the investment that they should. The lower tier parks have been pushed to the wayside while Cedar Point got three new coasters in three years. It's a charming little park but it could use some of the love the chain is now trying to bring to the Legacy Six Flags parks. If I recall correctly, MA's Tricks and Treats was just a few weekends instead of every weekend in September and October. That being said, one ticket to Cedar Point hardly seems like just compensation. It also does not sound like a good idea logistically since Cedar Point is always jam packed during the Fall season. I'd rather have seen them offer a ticket where you could choose between going to SF Great America (3h45m away), Cedar Point (4h30m away), or Kings Island (6h away). This also makes me wonder what the compensation ticket will look like for All-Park Passport holders. Do they also get a free ticket? I'd suppose so, but it seems like a useless item unless they can use it to bring a friend to Cedar Point. Is that ticket only able to be used for the passholder? Once again, so many simple questions whose answers are clear as mud. I'd bet Six Flags is banking on the fact that the customers who could use that complimentary ticket will either a) naturally spread out their visits so not everyone is there during HalloWeekends, or b) not go at all. Michigan is probably one of the only states you'd see the state AG go after Six Flags for this, but even then there may not be a good case beyond "You cut nine operating days from the calendar, and did not provide adequate compensation". Court decisions keep bending toward the worse outcome for consumers these days.

That beautiful film, however, is not a Paramount one. "Volcano the Blast Coaster" at Kings Dominion was just themed to a... volcano, apparently? This always threw me off until I watched Volcano one time and saw the 20th Century Fox logo. @TOPGUN1993 - As for your question, this is just hearsay I've been told over time, but my understanding was that as Paramount and Viacom kept getting shaken up over the years (even before the CBS dealings), the focus and strategy of the parks kept shifting. I.E. Someone new would come in on high and say: "we gotta make it a movie theme park" and then that person would get shuffled out just for someone else would come along and say "nah, let's just focus on making an amusement park" (still an incredibly profitable venture at the time, even without movie promotion). I don't think "Paramount Parks" was ever really strategically linked with the Paramount movie studio to any kind of large degree. I.E. when the studio side was cooking up films and marketing plans, most of them probably weren't aware that Paramount even had "theme parks" and those that ran the parks were focused on (and only paid to) run a seasonal/regional park, not necessarily elevate the overall "brand" if that makes sense? That's why you'd see "Tomb Raider: The Ride" cobbled together one minute and then just "Delirium" the next. @silver2005 - agree with you about Star Trek. Those characters/that brand were all over the park when Paramount first took over, but that focus fell away rather quickly. Flight of Fear would've been better as a "Borg" ride to promote Star Trek: First Contact (came out the same year), but something had to be done to promote the Outer Limits reboot on the United Paramount Network (UPN) I guess? -

The one IP that I'm amazed Paramount never really utilized was Star Trek. Now that I think about it, Delirium could have done a Mission Impossible theme... -

Maybe the mergers going to my head, but I feel like I remember there being rumors about it being themed to this Paramount “classic.” https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0120461/ I could be making this up. But the timing would kind of make sense. -
Viva La Fiesta at Carowinds (and elsewhere) seems to be the likely replacement for Grand Carnivale. The event looks to be colorful and fun with a variety of activities and food offerings. I would definitely miss the strong live entertainment element of the parade and characters since it appears that Viva La Fiesta's entertainment is mostly outside music and dance groups.

Kings Island Dining Ideas
Losantiville Mining Co. replied to CartersCoasters's topic in Kings Island
My only issue with putting in another Farmhouse Kitchen-style restaurant is that, at its most basic form, it's just a rustic Coney Bar-B-Que/Island Smokehouse. I wouldn't mind a new dining location with that setup, but it would be nice to have another location with permanent indoor seating. Make the building bigger and put some tables inside of it, and it could be really nice. -
Grand Carivale 2025 Discussions and Reviews
Losantiville Mining Co. replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island
The parade they've been putting on for Grand Carnivale is one of the best I've seen at a theme park. The 50 Years of Fun parade back in 2022 is a close second, but Carnivale's is first. It is much better, in my opinion, than the Winterfest parades. While I doubt Six Flags will be willing to bring the event back, I hope whatever might replace it is very fun and good for the park. -
They should have added on-ride cameras for RiverRacers. It would add a little something to the ride. But then again, they could have done lots to make this ride better and didn't. They should add the type of automatic cameras that Epic uses, where you tap a button on the screen and it takes your picture. Then you scan a QR code to buy the picture. No staff, easy money. Definitely something KI should look into. You could put a camera in front of the Tower or something similar.

I think MA has great potential, but isn't a good park. If they smooth out Shivering Timbers, replace Thunderhawk, and start selling food that doesn't taste like it came from a public school cafeteria, they could easily be a huge draw. They probably did this to force people who only visit MA to hit up CP, and then go "Wow. That was so much better than my home park. What other parks can I visit?" and head to other chain parks.

Delirium - Why wasn't this ride Paramount Movie Themed?

I think it was just because there wasn't a Paramount property that made sense for the theme. I could be wrong, though. Delirium is the perfect name for the ride, however -
Random question and thought.... 1999 Brings the new "Action Zone" land to Kings Island and is home to the new "Drop Zone Stunt Tower" and "Face/Off".... Amazon Falls is renamed "Congo" Falls, XS Raceway becomes "Days of Thunder" and TOPGUN is hanging out in the back corner. With a entire new "movie" based land why did that not continue with the 2003 installation of Delirium 5 years later? Nearly all of the Paramount additions had a movie tie in. (Minus Son of Beast) What Paramount movie of that time period would of made sense to theme a giant HUSS frisbee after? Do you like Delirium? Did it use to have a longer cycle when it opened? That is all...
