Rides and Slides 2015
Spectrum91 replied to Spectrum91's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Updated Six Flags Great Adventure's post, as their new "coaster" has been renamed and relocated. -
^To anyone curious, that's 1972. I enjoy the art of the poster maps in the 1980s, particularly 1982 and 1988. I wish the park would still sell poster maps every season, as I can't imagine they're incredibly expensive to produce and make great souvenirs.

^But Wonderland's fountain continues past the bridge, into a pool at the base of the mountain. So the fact remains it serves as a thematically appropriate bridge to get over some point on the fountain (regardless how far from the front of the fountain this point is), and a similar bridge would be equally thematically appropriate at Kings Island.
-
As others have mentioned, Canada's Wonderland has a bridge over their fountains and it aesthetically works fine. If Kings Island installed a similar pathway in the center, I don't think it'd ruin the fountains' picturesque appearance. And you can't argue it'd make traversing the park easier.

Thanks for the links! Holiday World and Carowinds were actually already included with links, but I added Kentucky Kingdom. And thanks for your opinion on pictures! Thank you! I'm in the process of adding it -
Rides and Slides 2015
Spectrum91 replied to Spectrum91's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Another, minor update: many of the parks now have links to active KICentral threads discussing the new 2015 additions. Parks included are Kings Island, Lagoon, all the Six Flags parks (although it's the same thread), Cedar Point, and Knott's Berry Farm. If there are any active threads not mentioned, feel free to let me know and I'll add them. One final thing: what would be everyone's opinion on adding photos to the list? I'd shrink them so it doesn't affect loading speeds too badly and make it look the least cluttered as possible. -
Rides and Slides 2015

^Yeah, that was an unexpected consequence of editing Cincinnati's Coney Island into the list and not previewing it first. It took a while, but it should be back to normal now. -

Added Cincinnati's Coney Island. To any newcomers to the thread, are there any North American parks or rides I'm missing? -
Thanks for sharing! The park doesn't have regularly scheduled airshows anymore - I imagine they'd be awfully expensive if that was the case. There's occasionally a special event that features one though.

Cannibal : NEW at Lagoon in 2015

^Hideous? I think it looks intimidating and will serve as an epic new icon for the park. Here are a few new photos, originally posted on Lagoon's Facebook: -
^Wrong thread?

1980 home video Speed Buggy and Wild Animal Safari
Spectrum91 replied to VideoFromGeorge's topic in Kings Island History
Another great video! Thanks so much for sharing! To anyone curious, the video depicts the Ohio Overland Auto Livery (Rivertown) side of the Antique Cars. It last operated in 1999, then stood dormant for five years until its demolition in 2004. It's also really interesting to see, around the 0:25 mark, how close the children are to the moving cars. Today, it's almost guaranteed they'd be at least three feet back and behind a gate (or, at the very least, a clearly-marked yellow line on the ground). Edit - I don't think the 1999 date I referenced is correct. The attraction either stopped operations in 1997 or 1998. -
Many of the Planet Snoopy rides (especially the single operator ones, like Joe Cool Dodgem School and Peanuts' Off-Road Rally) already have buttons that the operator(s) must hold for the entirety of the ride. If they release it early, the ride comes to an early stop. I could therefore definitely see Kings Island opting for the foot pedal.

1980 home video Speed Buggy and Wild Animal Safari
Spectrum91 replied to VideoFromGeorge's topic in Kings Island History
Excellent videos! However, I think the first video is somewhat misleading... Speed Buggy was the large turnpike attraction, about where Surf Dog and Peanuts Playhouse are today. It opened with the park in 1972 and was also known as Marathon Turnpike, Wacky Wheels, and Sunshine Turnpike before its removal in the mid-1990s. Pardon the sign at the beginning, your video instead shows the smaller car attraction that opened in 1979, Kiddie Turnpike (also known as Mr. Jink's Jalopies, Fender Bender 500, Nick Jr. Drivers, and, today, Peanuts 500). Thanks so much for sharing! -

Cannibal : NEW at Lagoon in 2015
Spectrum91 replied to TheBEASTunchained's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^That's the norm for most beyond-90 degree roller coasters. Takabisha, Crazy Bird, Timber Drop, Mumbo Jumbo, and Steel hawg - the five steepest roller coasters in the world - all have similar features on their main drops. -

I'm somewhat surprised this thread hasn't received more attention, especially based off how gigantic - and unique - this project is. Here are two recent pictures of the coaster's construction: From Theme Park Review, the ride's massive tower and drop. From Standard Examiner, a look at the base of the drop and the ride's first inversion. -

^I was unaware it had been in that state for so long. I'll keep it on the list for time being and keep my fingers crossed 2015 will be its year. -

Added Stricker's Grove new Pirate Ship (it looked pretty complete this summer, but wasn't yet operating and signage said it'd be open in 2015. Only just now remembered and added it). -
Cedar Point's Good Time Theatre to be removed
Spectrum91 replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I wonder whether we'll see much construction in this spot during the 2015 season, or if the theater's replacement will be a minor 2014 addition. -
"Fresh Horses" 1988 movie filmed at Kings Island
Spectrum91 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
It's clear the third one is Screechin' Eagle though. The main drop in the back, the second drop in the foreground, the maintenance building on the right, etc. In my opinion, it's also clear that the second picture isn't Racer. There's only one track going up on what should be the lift-hill. If it was Racer, there'd of course be two. Edit - Oh, and Screechin' Eagle was indeed white. Courtesy everyone's favorite, RCDB: -
"Fresh Horses" 1988 movie filmed at Kings Island
Spectrum91 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
It's from the second drop on Screechin' Eagle at LeSourdsville Lake. http://binged.it/11pU5sU Edit - I'm also thinking that the second picture is Screechin' Eagle. I don't believe Racer ever looked that bad. If it's Screechin' Eagle, it'd be on the return track, the one that runs right next to the first drop.
