I realize there has been a lot of controversy lately as to what Matt Ouimet was/is going to do for KI and the other CF parks. Well, I was at KI yesterday for the first time this year and I would like to share my positive experience with you. We were waiting at the front gates right before ERT, and all of the employees came out of the Guest Relations office and cheerfully greeted the crowd. Asked us if we're ready to have fun in the park, waved to us, and many of them were passing out park maps. Never in the years I've been going to KI have I seen the employees interact with the guests the way they did. It was amazing. As we walked to Diamondback, employees and even security guards said hello with a smile on their face. I also saw neatly painted white gates with the KI logo in place of the tattered ropes used to hold back the non-ERT guests. A little later, we went to Beast and I absolutely can not believe how the massive amount of retracking has brought that coaster to its former glory. For the first time in a few years I had my hands up and a smile on my face instead of gritting my teeth and clenching the black bar to stop myself from getting jerked around. Beast has needed some love for a long time and it finally got it. When we got something to eat, we headed to the new burrito place (the name of the restaurant escapes me right now but it is where Outer Hanks used to be). I walked in and there it was. FRESH FRUIT. Yes, you read that right. Fresh fruit, and salads. And lots of it. How long have we been asking for this? It was so nice to bite into roast beef, rice, and lettuce yesterday instead of a greasy hot dog and cold fries. The friendliness of the employees was constant yesterday and all the ride crews were having fun. I also noticed a large shelf of cold cut sandwiches with veggies on them at LaRosa's. I'm not sure if they were there before or not, but not everyone does well with greasy food at an amusement park and it is nice to have healthy food options. (I did get pizza, but that's neither here nor there ) Yesterday was also math and science day. There were a few groups that got Fast Lane passes and the way the employees executed it had zero effect on the usual speed of the lines moving. This will be my 17th year visiting Kings Island. In all the years I've been visiting, I have never seen such a genuine and obvious effort to make the guests happy. I know I've said that I won't visit much this year, but seeing my home park turned around like this has me wishing I could go back today. So I would like to give a shoutout to our new CEO. He was at KI yesterday, and I'm disappointed that I didn't get a chance to tell him that he's doing a terrific job.3 points

All that I'm taking from this topic is that the new CEO is much more guest/fan oriented in a place the isn't named Cedar Point. I'm glad to see that Mr. Ouimet is out and about somewhere other than Sandusky...2 points

My wife and I, after about 3 seasons away, decided (upon hearing the wonderful news of Gluten-Free menu options) to return to our beloved, hometown park. It was about 5 PM when we cleared Season Pass Processing and headed for the gate (well, we got there at 4:30, so don't panic). I was a tiny bit relieved to hear that the way-inappropriate hard rock ambiance was replaced with at least some modern pop. Still, something by John WIlliams, Erich Kunzel or Jerry Goldsmith would have better fit the pleasant visual experience of approaching the now-metal-detector-free entrance, in my humble opinion. But still, this is KI, so on with the show! Observations about Invertigo: Are the colors they used in this repainting the [ahem] inverted colors of the original color scheme? Just wondering. It looks like what might happen when clicking on any of those preset options in PhotoShop. I guess that's all relative. Anyway, it was good to hear the all-familiar mechanical "chunk!" and scream of this now classic favorite as we waited in line for our SPP. Gluten-Free Pizza! and the Pop Droid: We were bounced around a bit, searching for this, until we finally landed in Festhaus. My wife asked one of the employees if she could have gluten-free pizza; the employee (bless her busy little heart) said, "Free? Do you have like a ticket?" She finally figured out what we were asking for and directed us to the right place. The pizza was really enjoyable (for Mrs. Thrill_Biscuit). Me: I had some black pepper and Kung Po chicken with noodles. Tasty! We then bought one of those new re-fill cups that looks like something out of the movie "Metropolis," or "Sky Captain." Very art deco. Filled it with Diet Coke. Were never thirsty the entire evening! Great stuff. Adventure Delayed: Wanted to start off with the drop-less - yet - marvelous AE. Having grown used to short, quick lines, I thought it would be a walk-on. (Well, it was, I guess, if I wanted to plunk down a couple of Ulysseses for that little white wristband. Having showed up so late in the afternoon, we decided to just go the old-fashioned way and, like zoinks, Scoob! I never saw so many people in line for AE, nor have I seen the line go so slowly. [WARP!] So we rode in the front, and this young lad, being so originally clever and innovatively entertaining, began screaming like a girl. No, really a small, frightened girl! I mean, wow, kid, get the Improv on the phone; with such clever originality as that, you'll go places! ...the ...whole ....ride. But the monkeys all worked and it was fun. ON to the next thing! Dinosaurs Alive! It was well worth the $5 each to go through this pleasant, relatively quiet little path through the shady woods. The dinosaurs were neat. I think the one with the round, bony head looked like he was trying to pound out "Benny and the Jets" on a Steinway, but they all were interesting to look at. I really liked how the dinosaurs get progressively more interesting as you go through. The big, Chinese one was one of my favorites, as was the T-Rex (the really, really big one near the end). Very cool addition to our beloved park. We then checked out the free 3D offering in Inertia Theatre (benches?). It was worth the $0 we paid to get in, and the air conditioning was a relief. The guests needed to ...leave! (They were all unsupervised, sugared-up juvenilles who ALSO had very original, cunning and never-before-seen comedy routines for us all to enjoy.) "Thanks for helping out!" ...morons. 3-2-1.... Ok, 5-4-3-2-1... One more time... Well, summing up: It's great to be back. The park was clean, bright and as friendly as ever! We enjoyed some blue ice cream, some Boo Blasters (nice touches since we last saw the dark ride), some peanut butter fudge, and a stroll through the short-circuiting Starlight Spectacular (a lot of the lights weren't working, but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm). We took one last ride on BLSC before heading for the gate. There was a nice touch letting a young guest "launch" the FWD. Funny thing, only one rocket went off, and for an uncomfortable 60 seconds, there erupted a torrent of impromptu 'countdowns' from a laughing crowd. Poor kid who got to "launch them"... anyway, they finally went off and it was cool to hear about 3,000 choir kids singing Katie Perry as we cleared the gate and headed home. Tired feet, full bellies. It was a classic and fun visit!2 points

I just wanted to share a brief story of my experience at the park yesterday. Me and my girlfriend went to KI yesterday and arrived around 11:30a. The park was starting to get very crowded and since we both have passes (Platinum for me and gold for her.) we only weren't going to stick around the park long with the longer lines. We decided to ride The Racer and then we were walking down coney mall and I saw some suits. I didn't recognize them and I was trying to get a look at their name tags. One guy was named Mike. I continued walking and then realized that there were a few more suits just ahead of the other two gentleman. I stopped and was talking to my girlfriend and then I looked back at the suits and I immediatley recognized Mr. Ouimet. (I saw the video from Cedar Point a few days ago that someone linked here.) I told my girlfriend and then I started to approach him and I said, "Mr. Ouimet?" He approaced me with his hand extended and greeted me. He asked me a few questions about the park, where I lived, did I have a pass, etc. We made some small talk about the park and I told him I was a shareholder of FUN, etc.He discussed Luminocity briefly and he was VERY excited about that. I asked if the show was a hit would be seeing something similar here in the future and without saying yes he intimated that we would. Without my asking he also said, (I will not quote because I cannot remember for certain EXACTLY what he said) We need to do something for you guys down here to replace Son of Beast because there just isn't anything we can do with it. I thanked for for his time and somewhat starstuck and amazed at the man walked away with my girlfriend. We got about 150 feet away when Greg Scheid comes up and says that Mr. Ouimet said that we were loyal fans of the park, he then asks if we are going to be staying all day and I remark that I don't think so. He continues on and remarks that that was too bad because he wanted to invite us up into the International Restaurant at park closing to view the fireworks and for free soda and pizza. I was thinking to myself what a fantastic gesture! We did leave the park and we did not return which I feel like is a decision that I will be regret for a long time. I also kicked myself in the a$$ for not getting my picture with Mr. Ouimet. (I am not normally a guy that cares about famous people or moviestars - I don't care if I see them or I don't, but Mr. Ouimet is in charge of a corporation and chain of parks that I am emotionally invested in. Lol) Anyway, that is my short story. I hope you enjoyed.1 point

Hello! Well, it's McSalsa again, ready to give another Trip Report from Kings Island- this time for May 5th, 2012. First, however, here is the ride rating system: 10=Epic. A memorable ride I will remember for a long time. 9=Excellent. A very fun ride with only minor flaws. 8=Very Good. An outstanding ride, but there's a flaw or two in there that keeps it from greatness. 7=Good. A fun ride, but not anything remarkable. 6=Decent. Respectable, but it has un-overlookable flaws. 5=Meh. Not good or bad, it has some big flaws. 4=Bad. This ride isn't worth waiting at all for, and has serious issues. 3=Very Bad. Don't waste your time here. 2=Garbage. Yuck! 1=Poo Poo...Eww! Avoid at all costs! 0=Superpoo...see above, only even worse somehow. OK? Let's begin...our group inlcuded McSalsa (me), my sister, her best friend, her boyfriend, her best friend's boyfriend, and her best friend's boyfriend's brother. We arrived at the park around 9:40, where I sadly learned WindSeeker would not be open today. Doh! We headed for the Coney Mall "gate" and waited for the park to open. There was only a small crowd, leading me to think the park might not be too crowded (boy, would I be proven wrong). A singer from one of the park's shows sang "Amazing Grace" and the park opened. Our plan was to head for Firehawk, but my sister saw no one heading for and wanted to ride... #1: The Racer (RED) Wait: 0 Minutes We chose Red Racer over Blue. Neat how the two are no longer seperated and you now "choose" at the loading platform. Both sides were running, and (mostly) racing! I also, for the very first time, managed to hold my hands up for an ENTIRE ride! Yay! The ride itself was fun, possibly my best ride ever on this coaster, with solid floater and some ejector air all over the ride- John Allen's 40 year old classic gave me its first ride I would rate ABOVE an 8...it gets a 9/10. Bonus points for being smooth in spite of being a 40-year-old woodie, too! Score: 9/10 After Racer, we made a discovery- her BF Boyfriend's Brother was AFRAID of roller coasters (I was suspicious when he said "All the coasters there suck!" during the drive...) Our attempts to get him to try even a small one would fail, he would refuse even Adventure Express...which, as we walked past, was closed for the morning for some reason- we were heading for Sling Shot, where we waited 20 minutes to find the cash register broken and thus the ride could not open (my sister was wanting to ride Sling Shot). We abandoned it eventually and headed for Firehawk...thankfully, we STILL beat most of the crowds to it... #2: Firehawk Wait: 10 Minutes Firehawk is a ride, until now, I had only ridden once...my previous ride on Firehawk was good- intense, but not too rough. This time, we were in the back of a train and I must say...ow. It wasn't too painful, but Firehawk was quite rough on this morning. Still a fun ride though- just not worth a 2-hour wait. Score: 8/10 After Firehawk, I wanted to hit Flight of Fear, which had only built up a short (30- minute) wait. But my sister's boyfriend wanted to ride Diamondback. Her Best Friend, Boyfriend, and BF's Brother needed some food and we left them. (I feel this was a mistake as we gave up a chance to ride FOF with a short wait in exchange for Diamondback, which would have about the same line all day...) On the way, we checked with the WS Ride Ops to see if there was any chance of the ride opening. They said no...so I still have yet to ride WindSeeker. We were heading for Diamondback, but had to turn around and head the long way around because a marching band was coming down the walkway. We reached it, and waited 45 minutes for a ride... #3: Diamondback Wait: 45 Minutes (moved a bit slower than I remember...Fast Lane?) Diamondback gave a solid ride, as usual. The ride still has the "rattle", and it still has great airtime, too. Worth the wait, for sure. Not the best ride I've ever had on DB, but still pretty darn good. Score: 9.5/10 (better than a 9, but I can't really call this a 10/10 ride...) After Diamondback, I wanted to ride The Beast. But wait...The Beast was closed ? And blocked off by a mobile gift shop! I wondered what was wrong, this is my favorite ride here...well, we headed for Vortex instead. The wait looked long and some were saying "IT'S A 2 HOUR LINE!!!"... #4: Vortex Wait: 20 Minutes (2 Hours? HAH! But...also a bit slower...) Well, Vortex wasn't 100% today- even from 5-1. Rougher than normal, no airtime (unusual for 5-1), and the "hang time" on the loops and inversions wasn't as strong. My sister and her boyfriend were in the back and got the tar beat out of them! (I explained that 5-1 was good, 5-2 was not, afterwords...) The ride still had some fun value, however, thanks to its intensity. (Note: Read another trip report that stated Vortex was running great...huh, guess rides really can differ a lot, even in the same day...) Score: 8/10 After Vortex, we were hungry and headed out to our car for some food we had brought. After that, we headed in and decided to head for a ride I had never ridden...until now...prepare yourself for... #5: VIKING FURY Wait: 5 Minutes (This ride has ultra capacity!) TASTES GREAT! LESS FILLING! TASTES GREAT! LESS FILLING! Well, this ride is actually far less intense than I expected it to be...I also saw how it works- 2 huge truck tires are spinning below the "boat", and move it back and forth. A fun ride- best in the park, though? Well...maybe if you have kids... Score: 7/10 On the way to VF, we got a phone call from Sister's Friend and learned that Beast was doing test runs and could re-open. Yay! But since it was still testing, we decided to kill some time and ride... #6: MONSTER Wait: 10 Minutes (loading/unloading a bit slow, but much faster than the now-defunct Midnight Ride at HW) Monster seems to be more "spinny" this season than in years past! And that means more fun. With these spider rides getting rarer and rarer, this is a very good thing indeed. Score: 8/10 After Monster, we re-united with the entire group and headed for The Beast. #7: The Beast Wait: 60 Minutes The line was claimed to be 60 minutes, but it looked longer...until all of a sudden it moved SUPER FAST as more q-lines opened up. Then it slowed down..and sped up...and slowed down...what was doing this? Then I got up near the front and saw what it was...Fast Lane users were sometimes taking up nearly whole trains as they showed up as the ride was loading, and when they didn't, things moved much faster. This ride, by far, had the most FL users of the day- it wasn't a crazy amount, but there did seem to be a steady flow of at least 1 FL user/group per train. After 60 minutes (the wait time at the front was correct- but in the past this was only a 45 minute wait), we got on... As usual, Beast was relentless wooden fury. Few things are more fun at Kings Island than racing at nearly 65mph through the woods at high speeds, followed by a savage and super-intense double helix finale. The laterals I noticed in 2011 were gone, however...not a 10/10 ride (I've had plenty of those on this ride though), but still very good, even by Beast standards. I also found out why the ride was closed- there was a section of track on the second lift where you could CLEARLY see a good 3-5 foot new piece of track that had just been placed on the right side. Score: 9.5/10 After Beast, we walked over the Coney Mall, where my sister's friend's boyfriend played 3-point challenge and lost. I never rode them, but I'd still rather have Flying Eagles here over this game. We headed down for Action Zone, and got on Adventure Express on the way...and tried to convince BF's Boyfriend's Brother to ride it, with 0 success. #8: Adventure Express Wait: 15 Minutes Very few people using Fast Lane here, but one group who did said "We aren't cutting!". Someone else said "YES YOU ARE!". We boarded and rode AE in the back. Adventure Express is actually BETTER in the back, too! It's still smooth, more intense, and you get a better view of some of the scenery/theming because the train slows down for the lift hills. Great ride. I also made a note to "check" the condition of Son of Beast during this ride, more on that later. Score: 8/10 After AE, we headed for Delirium, but it was closed temporarily. Drop Tower had also been closed all day, and Invertigo was sure to have a long line. No one wanted to get wet on Congo Falls. So, what ride do we ride here...you can't guess? #9: FLIGHT DECK Wait: 20 Minutes Wow, a wait for Flight Deck...good sign ? The ride itself was pretty good, but there were some rough spots. The ride still looks pretty nice with its semi-new paintjob. Score: 8/10 After Flight Deck, half our group (Sister's Friend, Sister's Friend's Boyfriend, and his Bro) wanted to leave early. That left me, my sis, and her boyfriend. We headed for Delirium, waited an hour, and the ride broke down. Grr...after that ordeal, we headed for some lunch. I decided to try the "famous" Potato Works fries with Chicken Bites. The fries were nothing to write home about, but the chicken bites were great. How did these fries get so darn famous, anyhow... Sister's Boyfriend had a burger & fries from Juke Box Diner, and my sister got a plate of Panda Express at Festhaus. After that, we headed to Flight of Fear as my sister wanted to ride it really badly...but first, the SOB Analysis: SOB ANALYSIS Son of Beast isn't about to collapse. The supports seemed fine, but there was one area that didn't look ok- some of the track itself, at the top of the 2nd lift hill, some of the track and "hand rail" bars were in horrible condition and falling apart. However, another KIC user says they met Matt Ouimet and that he stated the ride is being removed...hmm... #10: Flight of Fear Wait: 60 Minutes (should have ridden earlier... ) The line moved a bit slower than usual, and I was afraid this might be the last ride we got on. By this point, I was a bit irked by Fast Lane, but as I moved deeper into FOF, I saw the good sign of Fast Lane...what it could be PAYING FOR. Flight of Fear's theming was 100% working, with a few new additions as well. Some noteables: -The ride had new indoor lightining in the line, which is cool. -The UFO's special effects were all working. -The area right before the "launch" area seems rennovated, as I remember it being a bland tunnel. Now, it has a "image" of the solar system in there. -The "tunnel" between the launch area and main section of the ride has cool, "starry" lights in it now. -The ride's exit now has a LONG tunnel you walk through... Wow, Fast Lane sure is buying stuff...also, Adventure Express's theming was also working 100%. As for Flight of Fear itself, it was its usual self, but...rough again (did this in 2010 to me as well). Ow Ow Ow. Still an epic, fun ride. Score: 9.5/10 (will anything get a 10?) When I entered FOF, it was yet to be dark...it was night when we exited. We debated on what to ride at night, as I expected Beast's line to be closed early due to how long it probably was. We headed that way as my sister suggested Diamondback as a possible night ride, but Beast was still open, so we entered the line for it. The ride shut down for the Fireworks, and we got a great view of them from within the q-line. Afterwords, the line "closed" and no new riders were allowed in- which meant no more Fast Lane users! #11: The Beast Wait: 90 Minutes (Beast+Night=Popular, but it moved much faster this time too) The Full Moon loomed over the woods. The train turned the corner, and headed for the lift hill, the moon nearly directly above it. "Zen ride?" I thought. Well...not quite, but still epic. The ride was fast, relentless, and even though not 100% dark outside due to the moon, it still felt eerie being in the woods at night, and the tunnels were pitch black. It really felt as though a wild Beast was chasing us, and when we nearly escaped him and tried to return to KI, he caught us and we went for a double helix! Why don't more rides have "stories" behind them like this...A wild ride to end a wild day. Beast night rides are awesome! Score: 10.5/10 (At last! And it was better than a 10/10... ) After Beast, we had to leave the park and head for home. This trip report comes to an end, but first, the usual "Pros" and "Cons"... PROS +Fun rides. Some were better than usual. Others not. I wasn't blown too far away by many, but that's probably because I have become used to KI's rides by now...hmm, time to visit other parks and try new ones... +Rides are upkept well. Flight of Fear and Adventure Express were both 100% today, as far as theming working goes. +Tasty chicken bites...the fries were ok, but not that good. +Beast staying open for a whole hour after the park was closed. Making up for the ride being down earlier, perhaps? CONS -Lines were not moving as fast as I recall. Could have been due to Fast Lane, but not too many were using the passes... -Broken rides. Beast was down half the day. Drop Tower and WindSeeker never opened. Delirium broke down several times. Son of Beast is still SBNO. I'm a little irked that so many rides were closed down today... -Huge crowds. Not the park's fault, but it still sucked. No more "Music in the Parks" days for us! -Dirty tables in lots of places. Eww. Not the clean Kings Island I was used to... I hope you enjoyed this trip report. I had fun on this day, in spite of some issues that plauged the day. What's next for McSalsa? Well, my Grandma wants to visit Holiday World for a family trip...been there before, that should be fun. Well then...MCSALSA AWAY!!! PS: Questions and comments welcome.1 point

And being a PR guy, he may be walking the fine official line right now. I personally believe that decision is made, has now been reviewed and agreed to with the new guy, but is just not ready for announcement yet - which leads me to beleive SBNO for 2012, construction area in 2013, new ride/attraction and update to AZ in 2104. That sure is a long time to wait for a new attraction, I think I need to have a talk with Doc. Brown.1 point

My wife and I set out on our quest for "Glutton-Free" Pizza [sic] on 5/5, and were almost disappointed when a survey taker at the front gate said she had no idea Kings Island was offering gluten-free pizza. She recommended trying LaRosa's on International Street, so we went there, and they told us to go to Festhaus. Ooh, sweet appetite! So we went there and they directed us to the biergarten (!), where we were finally able to order the illusive, 12" delicacy (the price of which was delightfully surprising!) My wife thoroughly enjoyed it; one of her great loves of visiting Kings Island restored!1 point

KI does listen. We discussed better food options last winter including offering some fresh fruit and other healthy snacks. I went to the Cocoa Cola Market place yesterday (it's outside Hanks Burrito Shack where the big Coke bottle mister was). They have iced barrels filled with individual servings of veggies and dip, FRESH FRUIT, even hummus and chips, for only $1.99. You can get an orange or an apple for a buck. I asked the worker if the healthy options were selling well and he said they all were extremely popular. KI is an amazing company and truly wonderful place to visit. The fact they listen to their customers as much as they do is something very rare for a large corporation. You will be receiving many more of our dollars. The restaurants up the road will be losing out, at least from us. Thank you.1 point

Rode The Beast today and I totally applaud the offseason track work done for The Beast. It was amazingly smooth (especially compared to last year). The right turn headed into the brake shed had NO Bouncing! It seems they worked on the the turn right before the second lift hill as well as the final double helix. I agree completely with DBru. The Beast tracks extremely well right now and is a must ride before the track wears down again. Kudos again to the people who worked during the offseason on the track. They did an awesome job!1 point

DAY would mostly depend on what airline your flying in. I'm not sure if CVG has any direct flights overseas anymore now that Delta pulled out as a hub there. however, if you're flying thru Atlanta or Detroit or whatever HUB you come in from overseas, you may get into DAY cheaper than CVG.1 point

You just never know . I actually would have to say from his conclusions, he does have a serious statement. I also know that KI is notorious for trolling the enthusiasts of KI. Who knows, i could be correct, he could be correct, but i do know one thing, Chuck Norris knows... When they do make the decision i will do one of two things, congratulate on the 2013 SOB return, which i hope for also, and or be saddened by the intrusion of truth of SOB to be left in the dust. I support your idea, and i think that this maybe plausible.1 point

standbyme I have been meaning to comment on this thread for awhile, but I have been moving and was just able to catch up on the entire thread today. The pictures your took are truly amazing. I love seeing what the park looked like in 1972. I was born in 1990 so I never really got to see the park like that. It is really cool how you took the time to try to find the exact point where the original was taken. It just shows how much the park has changed. I really appreciate the time it took you to do all this. It was awesome. -Nick1 point
