  1. Photo #6 - Nickelodeon Splat City Water Maze - 1995-2005 (Shortened for Spongebobs Bikini Bottom Bash) The green tower would shoot water out the top randomly.
  2. Photo #5 - Zodiac & Troika (Shake Rattle & Roll) added in 1975
  3. Happy New Year to you, too. (If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem)
  4. Considering "Captain Nemo" spent 100's upon 100's of dollars renting a plane to get aerial photos of the park for this site, I'd consider that a major contribution. (Firehawk, IJST DB construction)
  5. *Pops his head in* Oh, still arguing and fighting change. Glad to see I'm not missing anything here. *Goes back into not caring about this site*
  6. A few rides in Planet Snoopy and a little bit of Rivertown. Taken from Eiffel Tower. July 10, after park closing A little of the stream can be seen at the bottom of this image. Easy: Any ride's queue Hard: Any ride in Coney Mall, at night Expert: Any set of park lockers
  7. It's about "OMG THEY ARE TAKING AWAY ONE OF MY FAVORITE RIDES! NO MATTER THAT I NEVER GO ON IT ANY MORE, I HATE CHANGE! I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RIDE THAT RIDE I DON'T RIDE ANYMORE AGAIN!"
  8. I don't get on here much anymore. but love seeing the old photos of the park. Brings back a lot of memories. Might have to get on here now to check out the new photos everyday.
  9. Did I miss something, or is Nemo really saying he's leaving the site because Terpy made a witty comment?
  10. And TA is gone!!! **EDIT** Sorry, came of KI's Facebook page.
  11. So what is this topic about?
  12. I just pooped a little because I laughed so hard. Its the freakin internet... I love you TG. And Terp, I'm gonna disagree with ya on this one. EVERYONE BE FRIENDS. loljk
  13. Now come in guys. Lets not be pointing fingers and arguing at everyone. Everyone helps and contributes to this site in their own way. If you do not like the way someone contributes than you could point it out politely. And it's definitively not worth leaving the site if you are just not a fan of one person.
  14. Someone said that KI had a sequel to The Beast and that it made all these "world records"....... Jeez, guests do say the darnedest things
  15. Taken against my will: Easy: Congo Falls Splashdown Hard: Any 4-legged wildlife in the park

The 10 rides I have ridden (or rode) the most at Kings Island: 1) Racer - 11,999 2) Beast - 3,371 3) Flying Eagles - 1,544 4) Vortex - 1,021 5) King Cobra - 808 6) K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad - 771 7) Race for Your Life Charlie Brown - 539 8) Woodstock Express - 526 9) Adventure Express - 398 10) Tumble Bug - 234 I also found time to watch more than 2,000 live shows during my years as a season passholder. One of the park's slogan's in the 1980's was "Do It All". That I pretty much did as a passholder.

1,021 rides on The Vortex. Single-day high was 36 rides in 1987 on media day.

Yes. Several features already planned. Look for the first episode in late February or early March.

  20. Please, for the love of Jesus ask congress that same question.
  21. Name calling is constructive.
  22. I personally have enjoyed the content added by everyone "involved", for lack of a better term. Nemo, please quit threatening to leave. I have always greatly enjoyed your presence here! Edit to add: I keep trying to figure a good way to say this. Henry, I took offense to your post because I had left this site before over the bickering and it Psst me off hearing a formerly active member saying that. KIC has given me much and I get annoyed at escalatory statements. I was all excited to see you posting again and then it was negative. Just a bummer for me.
  23. I think the offseason is going a bit to our heads. Perhaps it would be wise to take a deep breath while simultainously having cookies and milk. Just my two cents; whatever that'll buy me on this site. (Edit: Wow, 300th post.)
  24. Never really contributed, that's a laugh. Since Nemo is out, maybe I should start posting again, take his place. Because the fact that I live nowhere near the park anymore, and now spend my time with much better parks in California, makes me "part of the problem". Should get a lot of laughs from the people here. I've already gotten a few, especially TTD's comment, when I've got almost 3x as many posts as he does.
  25. Glad they came up with a good name. It would have been silly if they had called it a Slime Jeffery. Yes, I know what a Derrick is.
  26. Im gonna have to agree with Henry. He is wise.
  27. One of those records would perhaps be quickest modern day removal of a new wood coaster?
  28. Those photos are amazing and I too remember the days of Nickelodeon at Paramounts Kings Island. Those were in my opinion the better days of the area we now call "Planet Snoopy". My favorite attraction in that area was "Runaway Reptar" now know as "Flying Ace Aerial Chase".
  29. Kings Island PR tweeted today that there are 110 days until opening day!
  30. Easy: A park employee smiling Hard: People getting soaked by any water ride Expert: WWC turntable in action (from jcgoble3)
  31. I recently remember complains about the name Gatekeeper, and I thought that was the most appropriate name for that coaster!

Was it always a goal for you to keep ride counts or did you just start counting one day? Did you have spread sheets when you started? Growing up as a sports fan, I was always statistically oriented. I enjoyed looking at player and team statistics and analyzing the numbers. I kept track of my stats when I was playing baseball and hockey and going to amusement and theme parks was something I could have fun tracking and analyzing the numbers, same as with sports. If I wasn't into sports growing up, I never would have thought to do it. I didn't have a computer in the 1980's and had a notebook that I kept a day-by-day log in. From 1972 through 1980, I had written down on the park guide & map (or Fun Guide as it was called at one time) what I did during my visit. I visited the park one or two times a year during that period.
  34. Because people didn't want to dish out money to drive in a circle......
  35. Photo #3 - Outer Limits Flight of Fear Construction 1996
  36. Guests may say the darndest things, but so do the employees. During one of my lasts visits to the park during the 2012 season, My boyfriend and I went up to the Eiffel Tower to take pictures of the park. I over heard another guest asking a ton of questions about the different rides (it sounded like he hadn't been to the park since the early 80's). When he started asking about SoB, and asked why it was being torn down. The employee told him that the ride was being torn down because it was over 20 years old and falling apart. I think he even added the "it killed someone" rumor. I'm not sure if he was just bs'ing with the guy, or clueless. lol

  38. Complaining about what others post doesn't get you very far in a public discussion forum. Everyone has the right to post what they want, as long as they're following basic guidelines dealing with respect. As the conventional wisdom goes, if you don't like what's being posted, no one is forcing you to read it. There has been, and there continues to be, a great deal of good discussion and quality content posted here. However, you're not going to like every post. Other contributors here may annoy you, disagree with you, or otherwise not meet your desired level of post quality. And you should still respect their right to participate in this public community. Granted, some of the bantering here could understandably be frustrating, especially for the occasional reader. Most of us are always open to constructive criticism, so please do voice your frustrations in a positive way. After all, we do want new (and existing!) members to feel welcome and enjoy their time here. Popping in to drop criticism into a random thread solves nothing. I'll repeat what Terp wisely said: if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. A cool head and a mild appreciation of dry humor can be helpful here. Wit and a bit of silliness, especially from Terp, is a deeply entrenched tradition. We're discussing an amusement park, after all. There are plenty of other places in life for seriousness and frustration.

  40. And yet, at one time, the flume, a Coney Island original, was going to be removed. Announcement was made, last rides (rites?) were given, and the ride closed. Thank goodness that decision got changed....
  41. Not too sure that's it's really that hard to maintain. They still have one at KD.SFOG also has one. So does Carowinds, with an optional left turn to rest rooms, even!
  42. Today’s photo set pretty much speaks for itself...not too much I can add. I will say that this one was SO easy to find the exact spot to stand in it was ridiculous...but even with that, I PURPOSELY didn’t match the shot exactly. In my 2011 shot I bent down a little...otherwise a lot of the photo would have been of the orange “Finish” sign. This is the only photo in the series that I felt it was better not to match as close as I could. (That is why the trough in the foreground is farther away.) 1974 2011 Where would I rather be standing today? I can’t really say. I like parts of the 1974 look...like the clearly visible stone arches by the water...but the 2011 version is nice and colorful. The thing that MIGHT sway me to 2011 is the thought of those long 1974 lines! I haven’t said this in 3 days...so I would just like to say that I sincerely appreciate the ACTIVE participants in this thread...even if it’s “only” a simple click of the “Like” button.
  43. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here! 1974 As I mentioned earlier, whoever took the 1974 photos must have loved the Lion Country Safari area. 2011 This was one of the 2 photos in the series where even though I knew where to stand, it wasn’t possible/legal to do so! In the end though I think I came really close to “faking it”...I think the shot came out really close to what I would have gotten if I could have stood in the actual spot. Here is where I SHOULD have been: As you can see...security would have been all over me if I tried to be accurate! Today...as if anyone couldn’t guess...I choose to stand in 2011 because that means I get to ride Congo Falls!
  44. Standbyme, thank you for this topic. This is really amazing to see how the park has truly changed over the years. Cannot wait to see what else you are going to post, keep em coming!
  45. and if you look at the 1972 map compared to 2011 you can see a lot of change to the park 1972,http://www.themepark.../pki197x_1.html 2011, http://www.visitking...k/map/index.cfm 1972 was the closest year i could find but its close enough. Ive been looking at this map for a while and just now noticed scooby riding the roller coaster.
  46. I was in line for The Vortex on opening weekend and there was a teen girl in front of me and a couple back aways in line makeing out. The girl in front f me turned around and yelled, "hey you guys this is a park for families, not a place to make them" Everyone looked around to see what she was talking about and the two making out were bright red. I laught so hard. But she did have point.
