It was asked of all Coasting for Kids participants to remain in the Coney Mall area by The Racer until all areas of the park were open at 10am so guests weren't going through areas of the park that were not open, unescorted. It is important that all participants follow the guidelines that have been established when parks have these types of events.6 points

You say 11 years, I say 10. The difference of 1 year. Why should we let that get in our way? A year comes, you take.... Anybody....? Cabaret..... anyone? No...?3 points

Does anyone else think Matt Ouimet has the BEST job in the world? :-)3 points
-
There was a small article in a local paper for me today about Ouimet touring the plant in Batavia where they're manufacturing Gatekeeper that had a great quote in it too. "While Ouimet didn't provide specific investment plans for those parks, he said that Kings Island, Cedar Fair's amusement park just north of Cincinnati, "is on my radar.""3 points

And that is saying something, considering that Kings Island`s fireworks usually last about five minutes give or take. That is a tradition that was started back at Coney Island when Arthur Rozzi first launched fireworks at Coney in 1931.2 points

Seeing a wooden coaster back in the woods, with snow covering it has to be pretty beastly!2 points

My question for Don would have to be this: How often (if ever) do you get to walk around Kings Island in the winter, and what's it like seeing the park covered in snow?2 points

I have a question for Don. Do you have any advice for those of us who want to one day work in a parks PR department?2 points

It's probably been answered on here before, but I'm not in the mood to get mad about my lack of search fu. Why was The Racer exit relocated? EDIT: It appears that this post, as per http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26916-flashback-till-opening-day-2013/?p=500000'>this URL, is number 500,000! Now how long will it take us to reach 1 million?2 points

I believe it was the exit which was relocated. The entrance has remained the same since 1972 but the exit was moved from the right side facing the entrance to the left in the early 90's.2 points

Photo #9 - Coney Mall 1974 My favorite part about this picture are the ginkgo trees that were replanted from Coney Island and the old ladies licking ice cream.2 points

Fireworks keep people in the park and spending money until closing time. There is such a thing as false economy. Think how much money the park could save if: * they didn't pay the employees. * they cut food quality and portion sizes by 90 percent. * they cut out all entertainment except one show a day, put on free by aspiring artists from a local school. * they quit painting rides. * they did all park publicity for all Cedar Fair parks from Cedar Point. * they never again installed a new ride. * they required guests to bring their own toilet paper.1 point

The Burger King across the street is great. 10/10. Would visit again.1 point

I'll never forgot one year I went to the park and there was a stray cat hanging out in front of TR:TR the whole night. Just seeing that picture reminded me of that for some reason. It was laying around and getting attention from guest like it owned the place.1 point

That is encouraging news for the park reopening. They still have a lot of work to do before the park greets any paying customers though.1 point

Those types of rides are very popular. Look at Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story Mania at Disney, especially TSM. I think that if either Cedar Point or Kings Island gets a dark ride, that would be the best choice.1 point

I agree. I was disheartened when I heard about this. I certainly hope this doesn`t spell bad things for the park moving forward. I wonder if Pat Koch will still be at the park greeting visitors this year. Hopefully things can be amended, but the fact that Dan Koch was fired certainly doesn`t bode well. I sense some rough seas ahead.1 point

^ I'd be pretty happy with his job too...or Bob Iger's (or even Thomas Staggs as far as that goes...)1 point

I suspect the city's help would come in the form of tax breaks. Nothing more, nothing less. They want it there along with the financial benefit. The tax money they would make off hotel rooms and people willing to stay in Louisville to visit the park would far outweigh what the park would pay in taxes. I doubt they are offering up any kind of assistance, unless its more pressure on the state to do something, anything, just get on with it.1 point

Thanks! I thought so, but betwixt Racer, Rebel Yell, Thunder Road and, dare I say it?--Rolling Thunder ( Which Racer has impersonated before Rolling Thunder was done ), I sometimes get confusigated.1 point

I like the trees, but the concrete paths I do not like. Much better with pavers.1 point

Well there are some people who do truly believe in certain ideals. They make choices of where there money is spent. For people who truly believe in same sex marriage they would rather spend money at places that support same sex marriage. Everyone has "a hill to die on" and you just have not found yours yet. If a restaurant stated that they are raising money to campaign to put children with special needs in special homes where no one would see them, then I would never eat there. Again its all about the hill to die on...1 point

Snow woman and I have been to BGW and loved every part of it. The food, atmosphere, and rides were wonderful. Got to ride Big Bad Wolf, (will muchly miss) have read about a new coaster there. We couldn't afford to hit KD on that trip seven years ago. I don't know if we'll have time to go to both parks this trip, and we want to give the KD coasters and rides the time they sound like they deserve. Thanks for all the posts, we're reading every update. Any thoughts about Richmond as a place to stay and eat?1 point

Racer, the biggest and flagship coaster in the park, almost always had very long lines. The queues were often full, with lines spilling out into the midway. When Beast opened, it often had multi-hour lines.1 point

Why do you want a new section of the park? X-Base, back by where Flight of Fear is could use some sprucing up and a flat ride or two and a set of restrooms. Have you ever hiked to the nearest restroom to Flight of Fear/Firehawk? Its quite the hike.1 point

I don't get on here much anymore. but love seeing the old photos of the park. Brings back a lot of memories. Might have to get on here now to check out the new photos everyday.1 point

It was, indeed, a glorious ride. Twenty years from now, many will have wished they had ridden Son of Beast, and parents will tell their kids about the ride. Edit: Hysterical typo fixed. Thanks, TheCrypt.1 point
