  1. Really? And people wonder why sometimes this place is seen as less than welcoming. Do you have similar tests before you accept someone as a friend? The test itself and the person who did it is well meaning and fine. But as the price of admission here? No. Many of our best posters grew as writers and discerning people here. How many would we have lost with this nonsense? Let me add that I can think of at least two of our posters here that can't spell well, make many grammatical errors, etc. And their insights are brilliant, their thoughts unique, their enthusiasm and love of Kings Island unbounding. I, and many others, adore these guys and am very glad they are here. If they and their thoughts are not welcome here, who is? Perfectly stated thoughts always in compliance with the TOS aren't going to be found even on a linguistics forum (and I belong to several, some where I post far more frequently than here). I have one last question. The original poster. How do you think he feels about now? Are we proud of ourselves? Amusement rides. Kings Island. FUN. Friends. That's what this place is supposed to be about.

  2. Yesterday was more or less what I had planned for. We picked up my friend, Chris, at 8:30 and ventured up north. My mom dropped us off at the drop of lane. It was cold and grey. We waited outside the gate for a little while before ERT then darted towards The Beast. An old comrade of mine was working there that day as we approached the entrance. He was standing in front of the ride saying it was closed, so we walked around for a couple of minutes. We ran back to The Beast when I noticed it was open. We were on the 4th train of the day in the front row. The cold air blasted our faces as we rocketed through the first tunnel. After that, I was fully awake and ready for the rest of my day. I noticed Diamondback was down and it stayed down until about noon After The Beast, Chris and I rode Vortex and then WindSeeker. We got a bite to eat at skyline, (chili cheese fries) and proceeded to Action Zone. On the way I took some pics of Oktoberfest and, I have to say, It looked amazing. As we entered Action Zone, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. DB was still down, or should I say "up" We proceeded back to Rivertown where we boarded the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad Finally fixed the sign Along the ride, they had a little trivia game. I answered every one with ease, but the conductor couldn't hear me since I was in the back of the train. How much did Diamondback cost?-$22,000,000 What's the original name for Soak City?-Water Works What's the second most visited attraction at the park?- The railroad After the train, we visited Planet Snoopy and ran into an old friend After that, I showed Chris around because he hasn't been to KI since 2009. We went to The Eiffel Tower and got some shots. The rest of the day, we basically walked around, rode some more rides, and ate a lot of food. Here's some more pics of our day. I had a strange feeling I was being watched... We left at about 9:30 and journeyed back home after a nice relaxing day To see the rest of my pics, visit my photobucket page http://s1325.photobucket.com/user/sonofbaconator/library/KI%205-11-13?sort=3&page=1

  3. DontWantToWait, I think, and hope (basing off a four year gap of no coaster) that this coaster will either be big, special, or break a record. Hopefully not just another up and down coaser.

  4. We are home from opening day, and after three days in the park I am exhausted. No sleep at all over the past three days. Yes, Gatekeeper is a lot better than Wild Eagle. Never been on X-Flight, but I thought Wild Eagle was pretty boring. I did not think as highly of the ride as Caleb did. I did not think it was extremely forcefull, and I could marathon it for a decent amount of time if I could. Caleb got through 4 rides and was headed to the bathroom to lose his dinner from the night before. He's a baby like that. The best part is the keyhole section. It wasn't much of a headchopper effect, but it just looked cool. After three days we rode GK 18 or 19 times. (lost track) Here are some pictures, including pictures from the Sandusky Register that we are featured in (captions are below each picture): This is from the Register. We are in the 2nd row on the right side. Same as above Oh, who is that in the second row hanging out behind Matt Ouimet? Us I had to take advantage of the podium. Ouimet doing interviews Look who was working hard all day Trent Richardson from the University of Alabama and now wasting his time with the Browns.

  6. Nice report! How long did you wait for some of the rides? Yesterday I waited 2 hours for Diamondback, 30 minutes for Adventure Express, and 40 for Vortex and Drop Tower. It was packed!

They should have to take a TOS quiz before becoming a member of the site http://www.makeaquiz.net/?quiz=65368&k=b1e2a4f97093e8db979efb2eccf2e88e I got bored, tell me if you find any mistakes or anything. When I was first here I really wasnt a great poster or speller but once I got the hang of it . The site is great now! You just have to give people time to articulate before bashing them.

  12. Diamondback's first hill goes directly over top of the old fashioned photos building. If where the footers are is the station and the ride were to go directly into a lift hill, they wouldn't necessarily have to clear those trees. (all hypothetical)

  14. I love me some Shake Rattle and Roll. Although it makes me feel like a little kid every time I get on. lol. Worth it. If we're allowed to make past votes, my vote is undoubtedly on Tomb Raider: The Ride. The theming and the ride itself were both breathtaking in its own categories. It was something along the likes that the island will probably never see again unfortunately.

  16. I have had more than One moment where I have unintentionally reissued a topic. In years past, I could sit here and read through everything. I simply don't have that much time on my hands anymore. Which is both a blessing and a curse. Oh how I wish that I could read through all of the topics and comments on this site and several others. At the same time, I am truly blessed to have a good career, and I hope and pray that it lasts. In regards to this forum, I thought it was a good topic. Clearly, it caught my attention or I wouldn't be here. I don't have thousands of posts in the years that I have been viewing KICentral. Not that there is anything wrong with that. For those of you who do, it's incredible! I personally prefer to believe that One really good short post can be like a picture, and speak more than a thousand words to someone willing to listen. ( Listen?....ok, read. )

  17. Years ago, parks had dry run days and opening days went far more smoothly. Nowadays, not so much. Hard to argue with today's way, when the public comes out for nearly all opening days in droves. I can only imagine what KI's 2014 opening day will be like...

  18. That actually looks awesome and probable. The only thing you forgot was the transfer track where they house the trains which would probably go where you have one of the queues. Welcome to KIC!

  19. I still remember way back when they advertised the first Nickelodeon expansion (Nick Central) and to promote Runaway Reptar they showed footage of Invertigo, making everyone think Reptar had a loop in it. Anyway, more marketing for the 'Point confirmed. The most recent "Thrills Connect" ads predominately feature all Cedar Point attractions and maybe a sliver of Diamondback footage. I wonder if Six Flags suffers the same identity crisis when making ads for their parks; say, mostly using Magic Mountain attractions and maybe a sliver of an exclusive attraction.

  21. and here I thought that maybe the new ride was going to go through GWL as part of some kind of arrangement between KI & GWL, which would promote staying at the resort while offering special discount/package deals for both places. (just me, having fun with everybody)

  22. In the same day. How does Millennium Force valley? It's so fast all the way through the ride (at least how I remember it) that I can't figure out how the train could lose so much speed. Oh, and Woodstock Express apparently valleyed yesterday. Photos taken from the GOCC Facebook page, credit to GOCC President Cathy Schwab. Maverick train being winched through the course: Millie train stuck on the island: GOCC is reporting on Facebook that the Millie train will be disassembled where it sits rather than being winched through the course like Maverick and WE. Anybody with a clue care to explain why they would do that?

  23. About 5 years ago: Walked up to a well-dressed, bald gentleman in a nice shirt and tie, who was walking with others who were dressed similarly, shook his hand and said, "The fountains look great, Mr. Helbig!" The man smiled and said "Well, thanks, but I'm not Mr. Helbig."

  24. I forgot how the seatbelt attaches to the restraint on Flight of Fear. Meanwhile another boarding guest noticed my "KICentral" shirt and had started asking me questions about the park's rides. Then I couldn't even get on the darn thing properly.

  25. I agree with jcgoble3. How on earth does MF valley? The coaster is so fast from beginning to end, it is hard me to fathom exactly how this could happen. If I remember correctly, (I am probably wrong) besides the lift hill, isn't the final break run the slowest of the course at 55 mph? The concept to me of MF to valley is plain crazy.

  27. Opening Day was very crowded, but we managed to get basically everything in. At that point I was too exhausted to look for things to write on here about, but it was another day at the best amusement park in the world! And yes, Gatekeeper had me blowing a few chunks- thanks for sharing that with the world Zach. I can't wait to go to bed

  28. My family has gone on the first Friday in June the past three years. The major water rides (Mammoth, Wildebeest, Zinga, Bukali) all get pretty decent lines (30+ mins) but the coasters have all been 5-10 minute waits after the opening rush gets through. All in all it has been a good time to be there.

  30. The photo above doesn't really show what changed. In fact, the photographer would have to turn 180 degrees to see what changed. Where Diamondback's helix is used to be midway; the path stretched from The Crypt to Rivertown Games. In the middle of this path was an elevated island of grass, tall trees, and The Beast sign (nearly identical to the large sign currently located to the left of the entrance.) The best image I can find of it in a Google search: Note Tomb Raider/The Crypt in the background towards the bottom. Here's how this photo was taken: Personally, I liked the old entrance better, but it's much easier to see that there's a roller coaster back there now. There was something mysterious about not being able to see the ride until you were getting on it. But I'm just being nitpicky!

  36. I saw it a few days after they put the last piece of track up. Obviously it was a construction zone back then, but I still thought it looked bad over by employee parking. After riding it 17 times on media day, the employee parking area was still not pleasant. The rest of the area, however, is beautiful. It's for sure a trillion times better than a giant steel box...

  37. Sorry for the double post. I just want to apologize for how awful of quality these pictures are. I would blame it on the camera, but I think Caleb and I are the real problem. We suck at taking pictures. Alright guys, I'm gonna go sleep for a few days. . .

  43. Well I went for about an hour today but the park was full I never rode anything. I did try and get some better pics of the construction but there's not really much going on. It was really nice though to just walk around the park and shop and take in the sites and smells. This was my 6th time there this year and my first time "stopping to smell the roses".

  45. Day 2 was an absolute success! OSU day crowds weren't bad at all, and we rode every coaster in the park with time to spare. Gatekeeper's line was only about 20-30 minutes. Just a few things I noticed: Gemini's new station looks pretty good. The new lights and painting touch-ups all throughout the park really make a difference! Millennium's lights and paint look great! It was good to ride Cedar Downs with Gator to start the day, and we saw Don walking around and just enjoying the park as a guest, riding Raptor and then seemingly following us to Blue Streak afterwards (we think he was stalking us). The weather wasn't too bad, other than being a little chilly. Oh, and Gatekeeper is still awesome.

  48. Haha... cool topic. Here's a story I haven't really shared yet: Several years ago, back in the days of Fearfest I was up at the park with this girl who I had the biggest crush on. She was really jumpy in the mazes that we went through. When we went through Death Row, I was bragging to her that I had walked through the maze several times during the construction and knew my way through, which was the honest truth. We went in, just the two of us, and I lead with her following behind me, holding onto me for dear life. I wasn't ten feet into the maze when I managed to get us turned around and we walked right out the entrance. What's worse? I knew the manager of the maze, who happened to be standing at the entrance and immediately asked, "Ryan, what the heck are you doing???" My first and last date with that girl.
