While at Cedar Point this weekend in line for Corkscrew: Them: "What ride is that?" (pointing to Millennium) Me: "Millennium Force- it's a good ride." Them: "This ride goes all the way over there?!?!" Me: "This is Corkscrew, not Millennium." Them, sheepishly: "Oh, ok" (leaves Corkscrew and takes of in a light jog to Millennium)7 points

Not sure why I'm spending lunch time contributing to this. My vote would be for a coaster with a ride experience you cannot get anywhere else- that is so unique to KI that you have to come here to experience it. Not sure exactly what a "giga" is- but sounds tall and fast- so why spend millions on a larger version of Diamondback with a mirrored experience in just about every thrill park in the country. ie- why travel all the way to Kings Dominion to experience "Intimidator 305"- its essentially the same'ish, albeit 50-60 feet. The Beast, have to come to KI to experience it. Son of Beast (experienced rather sipped)- but you had to come to KI to get it. TR:TR- I may be mistaken, but wasn't it the only one indoors with the ride show?- again, had to come to KI for it. FOF- there may be one other, but they are the only two enclosed.6 points

About 5 years ago: Walked up to a well-dressed, bald gentleman in a nice shirt and tie, who was walking with others who were dressed similarly, shook his hand and said, "The fountains look great, Mr. Helbig!" The man smiled and said "Well, thanks, but I'm not Mr. Helbig."6 points

The station track is still there, so unless that structure is magically levitating, there's footers.5 points

I will put in a good word for Skyline Chili (even though I vastly prefer Gold Star). Have fun!4 points

Here is a picture from 11/02/2008 when Diamondback was under construction. This is when they cut the trees down in the area leading back to The Beast3 points

Sorry, but I-305 at Kings Dominion is absolutely nothing like Diamondback. I'd say I-305 at KD is a very unique coaster actually. Now comparing Diamondback to Leviathan would have made a little more sense...3 points

To quote Larry the Cable Guy, "Thats funny I dont care who you are!" Are you giving yourself a self congratulatory quote post? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that!3 points

I was on Adventure Express and had a nose bleed on the ride. It was so embarrassing because when my nose bleeds...it bleeds a lot. After running down the exit ramp and going to the Coney Mall bathrooms and waiting for it to stop, I see that Adventure Express has shut down, and they are spraying down the trains lol.3 points

I get mistaken for a little kid, a lot. In line for TTD last summer, I was so nervous. These two guys in front of me and my friend, about my age, asked my friend, "tell your little brother to stop being so scared." I was 14, and so was he...2 points
-
I don't really call this that embarrassing, but a few years ago I was in line for Flight of Fear, and had a group of teenagers in front of me, and I could tell some of them were scared. Then one turned around to me and she was like "This little kid is riding and he's not scared! Have you rode this before"? I said I do all the time, and then they go back to their group complaining that a "6 year old" can ride it with no problem, but they are scared, or something like that. Like I said, it was a few years ago, so I can't remember it all that well.2 points

Diamondback and Beast are fairly close together, right? People have mentioned starting with Firehawk to get it out of the way, is that something you would also suggest?2 points

^ I think Cedar Fair has learned their lesson in entrance plaza's. Most of the, recent, coaster plaza's they have been building have a very nice feel to them. Nice, neatly, landscaped entrances do wonders for a ride's entrance appeal imo.2 points

^ You also forget that those footers, from King Cobra, are hardly visible. Especially to the general public. The odds of them seeing the footers are about as good as my odds of making it to the NHL (unless, of course, they go up the ET to get a better view at our, super special, secret project). So, why remove them if most never see them? - Tusk, just making observation(s)2 points

I have a tie for two 1) I relieved myself on the King Cobra once. 2) My friends and I went to KI, drunken fest, we were all in college. Well I'm kind of a big dude. We get on drop zone. I pull the chest restraint down and it pops back up, pull it down again and it pops back up again. We are facing the line of people waiting. I start getting embarrassed. The line operator comes around to check the harnesses out. He gets to me and I lean into him and tell him that I don't care what he does, but he'd better get me buckled in. My friends start losing it. They are all cracking up and screaming "Get the fat guy off the ride.... He's too fat...." and so on. He calls for another worker and she starts jumping and thrusting the harness into my chest, which of course sends my gang into a ruckus. By now all the people in the line have caught on and now they are all laughing... Finally they had to release all the harnesses on everybody to let me off the ride .... Nice...2 points

I would blame the phone, but we used a real digital camera. Yes, we are that bad at taking pictures. I forgot to mention we met and talked to Gator on Cedar Downs during Ohio State day. We also said an awkward hello to Don who was waiting behind us to ride Raptor.2 points

Come on, it's KI. When have they NOT left some footers from large coasters? Heck, there's still a Skyride footer in the Oktoberfest pond, unless the refurb of the Bier Garten patio removed it.2 points

Did I start a bump-fest? I haven't really had anything truly embarrassing happen to me at KI. The closest would be walking into one of those posts in the parking lot designed to stop cars from driving up the pedestrian walkways (the ones that are several inches in diameter and about three feet tall), but the crowds were so light that no one really noticed. Way to represent the site.2 points

We are home from opening day, and after three days in the park I am exhausted. No sleep at all over the past three days. Yes, Gatekeeper is a lot better than Wild Eagle. Never been on X-Flight, but I thought Wild Eagle was pretty boring. I did not think as highly of the ride as Caleb did. I did not think it was extremely forcefull, and I could marathon it for a decent amount of time if I could. Caleb got through 4 rides and was headed to the bathroom to lose his dinner from the night before. He's a baby like that. The best part is the keyhole section. It wasn't much of a headchopper effect, but it just looked cool. After three days we rode GK 18 or 19 times. (lost track) Here are some pictures, including pictures from the Sandusky Register that we are featured in (captions are below each picture): This is from the Register. We are in the 2nd row on the right side. Same as above Oh, who is that in the second row hanging out behind Matt Ouimet? Us I had to take advantage of the podium. Ouimet doing interviews Look who was working hard all day Trent Richardson from the University of Alabama and now wasting his time with the Browns.2 points

Sigh. Son of Beast was shut down because the General Manager was not happy with the ride experience. It was removed after a thorough analysis of all available alternatives. The park would have done the right thing even had no lawsuits been filed as a result of the ride. The lawsuits did not cause the closure and removal. The incidents certainly contributed. Profits, safety, guest comfort. Parks put safety first. Guest comfort contributes to profit. Parks know that. Make guests comfortable and you can charge more. See, for example, Fast Lane.2 points

But atleast they left the SoB station. I like how they keep relics of most of the rides.1 point

This is probably my favorite picture of Racer. I got it, a new coaster emerging from the ruins of 2 former coasters, we shall call it King Beast!1 point

What I heard was "We don't have a Winged Coaster planned for any of our other parks".. Is this telling or just a diversion?1 point

Just before you get to the top of any hill, the train goes quite a bit slower than 55mph. A strong wind like today slows it down even more, and it falls back.1 point

No, you wouldn't. An effective lapbar would work. Other, similar coasters have been so modified. Vortex without over the shoulder restraints would be glorious.1 point

I have had more than One moment where I have unintentionally reissued a topic. In years past, I could sit here and read through everything. I simply don't have that much time on my hands anymore. Which is both a blessing and a curse. Oh how I wish that I could read through all of the topics and comments on this site and several others. At the same time, I am truly blessed to have a good career, and I hope and pray that it lasts. In regards to this forum, I thought it was a good topic. Clearly, it caught my attention or I wouldn't be here. I don't have thousands of posts in the years that I have been viewing KICentral. Not that there is anything wrong with that. For those of you who do, it's incredible! I personally prefer to believe that One really good short post can be like a picture, and speak more than a thousand words to someone willing to listen. ( Listen?....ok, read. )1 point

DontWantToWait, I think, and hope (basing off a four year gap of no coaster) that this coaster will either be big, special, or break a record. Hopefully not just another up and down coaser.1 point
